Spartans bringing a better O-Line to the table this year per comment from position coach
One of the areas that could make or break the Spartans this year is the offensive line, and it sounds like things are looking pretty good there as we progress through fall preseason camp.
The Spartans have a number of weapons at the skilled positions this year, but if you're offensive line isn't any good then it doesn't mean much. Good thing for Michigan State is that offensive line coach Jim Michalczik is confident in that bunch after the first few weeks of fall camp. He met with the local media on Thursday and expressed some strong confidence in his offensive line compared to the unit from a year ago, while noting there is still room for improvement as they approach the season.
"We have a bunch of dudes that can play," Michalczik said during his media availability. "The fun thing with this camp is that every day the bar just got higher. Every day we have improved, (but) I still think we have a lot of improvement to go... We are so much further advanced in understanding the offense, understanding football. We are talking about things we never talked about last year. We have so much more of the offense in now so (I'm) optimistic, yeah, but still have a lot more work to do."
Michalczik added that a number of starting spots are still up for grabs, and that they should get some decisions made out of Saturday's second fall camp scrimmage. This goes in line with a comment from head coach Jonathan Smith earlier this week where he stated there's roughly 10 guys in the mix for a starting spot after the first two weeks of fall camp.
Michigan State has a few more weeks of fall camp remaining before they open the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium in that matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

UNC football lands top 100 recruit in 2026 class
Bill Belichick lands another big recruit Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels continue to prep for the 2025 season with kickoff against TCU just under three weeks away. While this is the first year under Belichick, the program will really start to feel his impact in terms of recruiting in the 2026 class. And the Tar Heels just added another big piece to that 2026 class. On Friday, the Tar Heels secured a commitment from top 100 player C.J. Sadler as he ended his recruitment and picked North Carolina. The four-star athlete picked the Tar Heels over his other finalists, Colorado, Maryland, and Michigan. The Michigan native is the top recruit in the state and a top 100 player overall, giving UNC their second-highest-rated recruit in the Belichick era behind only quarterback Travis Burgess. With Sadler being listed as an athlete, the plan is for him to play defensive back, wide receiver and be a return man for the Tar Heels per 247Sports. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Sadler is ranked No. 85 nationally, the No. 8 athlete, and No. 1 player in the state of Michigan per the 247Sports rankings. With his commitment, UNC now has the No. 17 overall class for the 2026 cycle. 'It was great': Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed's SportsCenter conversation on Friday
With Texas A&M's 2025 season opener against UTSA just two weeks and one day away, starting quarterback Marcel Reed has begun to make the media rounds, speaking to ESPN's SportCenter on Friday afternoon just a day after former Aggie QB and Heisman winner Johnny Manziel made an appearance on the Pat McAfee show, where he discussed his belief in Reed's ability heading into the redshirt sophomore's first full starting season. Reed's confidence is noticeable every time he is in front of a camera, which is what every head coach expects from the team's leader. One of the many reasons the Tennessee native is likely beaming from ear to ear is the team's revamped wide receiver rotation, now featuring transfers KC Concepcion (NC State) and Mario Craver (Mississippi State), who chose the Aggies over multiple blue-blood suitors. Regarding his conversation with Manziel, Reed revealed what he and the college football legend discussed to SportsCenter, including Manziel's memorable connection to future Hall of Fame wide receiver Mike Evans. 'It was great. When you grow up watching college football, you think of Johnny Manziel for sure. I have been blessed to be able to come to this college and have the opportunity to speak with him.' Amid his struggles, Texas A&M has continued to back Manziel, and he has done the same, connecting with the current roster whenever possible and developing a strong connection with Reed, which could pay off on the field. When asked about his new weapons in the passing game, Concepcion was the first name that came up, and, of course, Reed noted the former NC State standout's elite ability to make plays whenever the ball is in his hands. 'He has a history of being a really good receiver, and I'm really excited to play beside him this year, give him the ball and get him some yards.' Concepcion is the current active leader in touchdown receptions (16) and has already shown his ability as a redzone threat during several preseason practice clips. Texas A&M's passing game will only improve if Reed makes the necessary strides and gains an early rapport with Concecpcion, Mario Craver, Terry Bussey, Ashton Bethel-Roman, and the newly formed tight end rotation.
