Leona Maguire carded a one-over 72 that currently leaves her five shots off the pace as round one of the KPMG Women's Irish Open continues at Carton House, with amateur Emma Fleming leading the home challenge.
Maguire made birdie at the first and went on to pick up shots at 11 and 18, but sandwiched in between were bogeys on 15 and 16.
Fleming, recently crowned Victorian Amateur champion in Australia, carded a 69 to lie on two under, and that has her two shots behind Swiss player Chiara Tamburlini, who leads the way by a shot.
Of the other Irish competitors that have finished, Aine Donegan and Anna Foster are one under; Lauren Walsh is two over; Beth Coulter and Olivia Costello are three over, with Rebekah Gardener five over.

NICK GIANNOTTI HAS been confirmed as the new owner of Athlone Town AFC. Giannotti takes over from US-based company owners Valeo Futbol Partnership. Advertisement In a statement, Giannotti pledged to be 'honest, transparent, thoughtful, and open' with supporters in his new role. A message from Nick Giannotti. — Athlone Town AFC (@AthloneTownAFC) July 4, 2025 'I was born and raised in San Diego, California, where I grew up playing football for a club called the Nomads and won three national championships. As a teenager, I was fortunate enough to spend two summers in the Northwest of England playing with the team, witnessing firsthand the significance of football to local communities. 'My father immigrated to the United States from Italy through Ellis Island. His story echoes that of so many Irish families who made a new life abroad. My wife, whose roots trace back to Cork, also studied at university in Dublin. Together, we have two young children, and our family is proud to now become part of the Athlone community. Cork red-hot favourites for Liam MacCarthy Cup ahead of Dubs semi-final clash

Cork remain red-hot favourites for the All-Ireland Hurling Championship as semi-final weekend approaches. The Rebels are the bookies favourites to take home the Liam MacCarthy cup this summer, and if the confidence of Cork fans is anything to go by, punters will look to back the Rebels in their droves as they look to win a first All-Ireland title since 2005. With Limerick dumped out of the Championship in shocking fashion by Dublin and defending champions Clare long gone, Munster champions Cork are expected by many to go all the way this year. They face a tough task in the semi-final however, as they take on a Dublin side that are riding the crest of a wave after their famous win over Limerick. Tipperary take on Kilkenny in the other semi-final at Croke Park this weekend, but of the four teams left, Cork are the hot favourites. Pat Ryan's side are 1/6 with Boylesports to progress to the final at Dublin's expense, with the Irish bookmaker also installing the Rebels as favourites to win the lot at 8/11. Kilkenny and Tipp follow at 3/1 and 4/1 respectively, with Dublin seen as rank outsiders at 12/1. Brian O'Keeffe, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said: 'Two brilliant clashes await this weekend in Croke Park but as punters look at what's to come later this month, their confidence is growing that the Red Army will descend en masse on Dublin and watch the Rebels end their 20-year All-Ireland drought.' Irish Olympics hero Daniel Wiffen and twin Nathan mark huge life milestone as parents share ‘pride'

DANIEL and Nathan Wiffen graduated from Loughborough University on Thursday with degrees in computer science. It's an amazing feat given Advertisement 3 Dad Jonathan shared this pic from their graduation day Credit: @jwwrok 3 Daniel and Nathan will turn 24 on July 14 3 Daniel came home with a gold and bronze medal from the Paris Olympics So it was understandable that dad Jonathan posted a message beaming with pride at his two high-achieving sons. He tweeted: "These two keep us on our toes, but today is a very proud moment, when they have both graduated from Loughborough University in computer science. Congrats!" Now that he has college out of the way, 800m freestyle Olympic champion is moving home to Northern Ireland where he will While sharing this update around his swim career he insisted that it was a mutual decision between himself and long-time college coach Andi Manley. Advertisement Read More On Irish Sport Manley told him he needed the change now to achieve his goal of becoming a treble gold medal winner at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Wiffen said: 'I am moving out of my house in Loughborough, so I'm definitely moving back to Ireland as my main training base. 'I will be doing stints in America. The Olympics are going to be there so you have to get ready for that way of life and time zone. 'Nathan is going to be there. You can only stay so far away from your twin you were born three minutes before so that's what I'm going to do. I'll be moving coach and it's going to be hard. Advertisement Most read in Other Sports Exclusive 'I only decided four weeks ago that I was going to be leaving Loughborough. It was maybe two weeks ago when we had the conversation. 'We're really good friends and we chat all the time. He wants what's best for me. He's not a selfish coach and he's not going to tell me to stay just for his own benefit. Full circle moment' - Jacqui Hurley emotional as RTE host prepares to represent Ireland on global stage 'He thinks it's beneficial for my career, that I need a new start because being in a university programme, you get 18-year-olds, 17-year-olds coming in every year who are a lot lower level than what I am at this point in my career. 'You want to strive to be better than the people . . . you want to train with somebody better than you though it's hard to train with somebody better than an Olympic gold medallist. Advertisement 'It's trying to progress in other areas. A university programme probably isn't the best place for me at this point in my career.' LOFTIER TARGETS Wiffen is unsure who will coach him but is happy to return to his Armagh base and work from there with support from Swim Ireland. But having won over fans last year when he declared he would win an Olympic gold medal in Paris and then achieved the feat, he has even loftier goals for LA 2028. He outlined: 'The end goal is three gold medals at LA. I'm just training away and refining the skills right now. Advertisement 'And then at the start of July I'm leaving for Malaysia for our pre-camp before the World Championships in Singapore in August. 'I've been told a couple of times by different world champions that the hardest world championships to win is the one after winning the Olympics. 'I'm up for the challenge. Obviously my goal is to stay undefeated in the 800 metres. I haven't lost in the 800m freestyle since 2023. 'For me that's the goal — just to keep undefeated and win another gold medal and then hopefully add that 400m and try to challenge it a bit more, and then for the 1500m. Advertisement 'It's to try and progress from that bronze medal and win the gold I won in Doha before. 'I would say we're aiming for three gold medals. The 400m is maybe a bit of a stretch because it's a new event, but definitely two.'
