Wildberries launches ESG platform for charitable, environmental projects
The platform's Charity section features charitable foundations verified by the company that assist children, adults and the elderly, as well as supporting animals, environmental and cultural initiatives. Users will be able to support these foundations, with Wildberries to double the amount of user donations during the first month of the platform's operation. The platform also enables users to sign up for volunteering projects across Russia.
'This project enables us to systematize our social and environmental initiatives in one place, ensuring transparent and accessible information about the company's sustainability projects. But most importantly, the platform will unite the efforts of business, society, and foundations in socially significant and environmental projects, giving everyone the opportunity to easily contribute to charity, volunteering, and environmental care, as well as see the results of their involvement,' said Wildberries founder Tatyana Kim. 'I believe what matters is not how much you have, but how much you give to others.'
RWB Participation responds to strong interest in ESG and charitable projects among Wildberries' customers: according to a survey carried out by the company in May, 79% of customers have taken part in charitable initiatives, with 42% saying they do so currently and another 30% saying they would like to start. More than half of customers (55%) also said they take steps to help the environment.
Wildberries puts a strong emphasis on sustainability as part of its marketplace operations. The company has introduced AI-powered electric trucks with zero carbon emissions at its warehouses and sent more than 167,000 tons of waste for recycling in 2024. More than 1,600 Wildberries pick-up points are equipped with donation boxes for clothing and other items.

Crude Oil Falls on Bearish EIA Inventory Report and IEA Oil Surplus Forecast
September WTI crude oil (CLU25) today is down -1.15 (-1.82%), and September RBOB gasoline (RBU25) is down -0.0266 (-1.29%). Crude oil prices are sharply lower today on a bearish weekly EIA crude inventory report of +3.0 million bbls and a bearish oil surplus forecast by the International Energy Agency. More News from Barchart Argan Holds Strong in Barchart's Top 100: Up 66% in 2025 — What's Next for Investors? Nat-Gas Prices Plunge on Cooler US Forecasts and EIA Production Forecast Increase Crude Oil Falls as EIA Forecasts Larger Global Oil Surplus Markets move fast. Keep up by reading our FREE midday Barchart Brief newsletter for exclusive charts, analysis, and headlines. The International Energy Agency (IEA) today released a report forecasting a record global oil surplus of 2.96 million bpd in 2026 due to tepid demand and increased supply. Today's IEA report added to the gloom about an emerging global oil surplus. For its part, the US EIA on Tuesday raised its forecast for the 2025 global oil surplus to 1.7 million bpd from 1.1 million bpd. The EIA expects a global oil surplus of 1.5 million bpd in 2026, up from its previous forecast of 1.1 million bpd. Oil prices today are also on the defensive due to the possibility of progress at the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska on Friday regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. President Trump recently said that he would impose new tariffs on countries buying Russian energy unless Russia reaches a ceasefire with Ukraine. In fact, President Trump last Wednesday doubled tariffs on US imports from India to 50% from 25% because of India's purchases of Russian crude. However, Mr. Trump might not impose tougher sanctions or tariffs regarding Russian oil, and might even relax current sanctions, if Mr. Trump is pleased by Mr. Putin's comments at Friday's summit. In a bullish longer-term factor, the EIA on Tuesday forecasted that US oil production in 2026 will fall to 13.28 million bpd, which would be the first annual drop since 2021. US shale companies are reducing their drilling and production plans due to low crude oil prices. The number of active US oil rigs recently fell to a 3.75-year low of 410 rigs. Concern about higher OPEC production is weighing on crude prices after OPEC+ on August 2 endorsed an additional 547,000 bpd increase in its crude production for September 1. OPEC+ is boosting output to reverse the 2-year-long production cut, gradually restoring a total of 2.2 million bpd of production by September 2026. OPEC+ has 1.66 million bpd of supplies that are currently due to remain offline until late 2026. OPEC July crude production fell -20,000 bpd to 28.31 million bpd. A decline in crude oil held worldwide on tankers is bullish for oil prices. Vortexa reported Monday that crude oil stored on tankers that have been stationary for at least seven days fell by -5% w/w to 80.52 million bbl in the week ended August 8. Today's weekly EIA report showed that US crude oil inventories rose +3.04 million bbls to a 2-month high in the week ended Aug 8. The weekly EIA report showed that (1) US crude oil inventories as of August 8 were -5.1% below the seasonal 5-year average, (2) gasoline inventories were +0.25% above the seasonal 5-year average, and (3) distillate inventories were -15.45% below the 5-year seasonal average. US crude oil production in the week ending August 8 rose by +0.3% y/y to 13.327 million bpd, modestly below the record high of 13.631 million bpd posted in the week of 12/6/2024. Baker Hughes reported last Friday that the number of active US oil rigs in the week ending August 8 rose by +1 rig to 411 rigs, just above the 3.75-year low of 410 rigs from August 1. Over the past 2.5 years, the number of US oil rigs has fallen sharply from the 5.25-year high of 627 rigs reported in December 2022. Gold edges up as investors await US-Russia meeting
Gold (GC=F) Gold prices edged higher on Wednesday morning, buoyed by a softer US dollar following mild US inflation data that solidified expectations for an interest rate cut in September. Meanwhile, market participants looked ahead to this week's high-stakes talks between US and Russian officials regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine. At the time of writing, gold futures rose 0.2% to $3,404.90 per ounce, while spot gold inched up by 0.1% to $3,357.03 per ounce. "The fall in the USD enabled a moderate bounce in the gold price, with the precious metal oscillating around the $3,350 level ahead of the Trump-Putin meeting on Friday," said Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade. Read more: London Stock Exchange open to dual listing of Indian companies, says LSEG boss "If the meeting in Alaska doesn't resolve anything and the war in Ukraine continues, gold could be making a push back towards $3,400 once again," he added. The uptick in gold came as US inflation data, released on Tuesday, showed a modest rise in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which increased by 0.2% in July, following a 0.3% increase in June. Year-over-year, the CPI was up 2.7%, signalling that inflation pressures are cooling. This data reinforced market expectations that the Federal Reserve may soon cut interest rates, which tends to boost demand for non-yielding assets like gold. The decline in the US dollar supported the precious metal's rise, as a weaker dollar makes gold more affordable for holders of other currencies. Nikos Tzabouras, senior market analyst at said: 'Gold is buoyant on heightened expectations of a September Fed rate cut, following benign CPI data and weak non-farm payrolls. This weighs on the US dollar, and a lower interest rate environment tends to favour non-yielding assets such as gold. "In addition, the precious metal's safe-haven appeal could be swiftly reignited amid a fluid trade and geopolitical landscape, supporting higher prices. However, trade tensions have eased after the extension of the US–China tariff truce, while the geopolitical temperature has cooled ahead of the Trump–Putin meeting, which raises hopes for a Ukraine ceasefire.' Oil (BZ=F, CL=F) Oil prices were lower in early European trading, after industry data revealed an increase in US crude inventories, reinforcing expectations that the peak summer demand season is winding down. Brent (BZ=F) crude futures lost 0.2% to trade at $65.16 per barrel, at the time of writing, while West Texas Intermediate (CL=F) futures retreated by 0.3% to $63.02 a barrel. The US driving season typically runs from Memorial Day weekend in late May through early September, and with the end of summer approaching, demand is expected to taper off. Read more: The most popular stocks and funds investors bought in July Citing figures from the American Petroleum Institute (API), market sources reported that US crude stocks, in the world's largest oil consumer, rose by 1.52 million barrels last week. Gasoline inventories saw a decline, while distillate stocks experienced a slight increase. Oil investors appeared to be in 'wait-and-see mode' ahead of the meeting between US president Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin, according to ING commodity strategists. "The outcome could remove some of the sanction risk hanging over the market," the ING strategists added. Pound (GBPUSD=X, GBPEUR=X) The pound was higher against the dollar on Wednesday morning and may climb even further as US inflation data reinforced expectations for a Fed rate cut in September. Sterling was up 0.3% to $1.3543 at the time of writing. The US Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed a year-over-year increase of 2.7% in July, matching the previous month's rise and coming in slightly below the anticipated 2.8% gain. Meanwhile, the core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose 3.1% in July, higher than the 2.9% increase seen in June and surpassing the consensus forecast of 3%. Stocks: Create your watchlist and portfolio With these figures in hand, markets are pricing in around a 94% probability of a Fed rate cut at the September meeting, up from 86% just a day earlier, according to the CME FedWatch tool. Fed governor Michelle Bowman had already signalled last week that three interest rate cuts could be on the horizon for the remainder of the year. The US dollar index ( which measures the greenback against a basket of six currencies, was down 0.3% to 97.81. Elsewhere in currencies, the pound was steady against the euro, trading at €1.1565 at the time of writing. In equities, the FTSE 100 (^FTSE) was higher on Wednesday morning, up 0.4% to 9,182 points.
