Atlanta family mourns ASU student allegedly murdered by boyfriend
Rogers "BB" McCloud, Jr., is charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Gennia Grimes.

Grimes' family says the suspect told them Grimes had committed suicide.
Grimes was a junior attending Alabama State University to study criminal justice.
According to her family, the couple had been together about two years but were about to break up before her death.
ATLANTA - A man has been charged with murdering his girlfriend, a student at Alabama State University.

He is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Center in Alabama.

Gennia Grimes grew up in the Ben Hill area of southwest Atlanta and graduated from Mays High School. She went on to study criminal justice at Alabama State University and was a member of the Honey Beez dance team.
She met Rogers "BB" McCloud, Jr. at school and, according to Grimes' family, had been dating him for about two years. The couple had a son together.
Amber A. Harris, a mentor of Grimes, said the suspect told the family Gennia had committed suicide.
"Nobody believed him," said Harris. "We know the truth."

Angela Grimes says her daughter told her she was going to break up with McCloud. The mother believes she and her daughter were betrayed by the suspect.
"My baby did not deserve that. This was somebody she loved," said Grimes. "When he came here [to visit], my family treated him like he was our family."
A spokesperson from Alabama State University released the following statement:
"Alabama State University mourns the loss of Gennia Grimes, a Junior Criminal Justice major. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness and spirit. Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones during this difficult time."

The family plans to hold Grimes' funeral at Antioch Baptist Church North this weekend. They created a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for it.

S.S.F. family seeks help after red-light runner crash kills mother, injures sons
The family of a woman killed in a car crash that also injured her two young sons last week in San Mateo is seeking help from the public as they grieve her loss. Yina Ramos Bello, 30, of South San Francisco was killed July 31 when her Prius was broadsided by the driver of a Ford SUV who ran a red light while exiting a freeway, officials said. Bello's family created a GoFundMe fundraiser to crowdfund financial support for a funeral, returning her remains to her homeland, medical bills for her sons, 6-year-old Mathias and 5-year-old Mateo, and living expenses for her husband, Alejandro. As of Wednesday evening, the fundraiser had received nearly $70,000 in donations. 'In the so-called 'Land of Opportunity,' how can everything be taken from someone in an instant?,' Bello's relative, Vanesa Ramirez Bello, wrote on the fundraiser's page. 'This could be any one of us. No family should have to bear financial hardship while navigating such profound grief. Your compassion and generosity will help Alejandro and his boys focus on healing instead of survival.' The collision occurred on Alameda de las Pulgas at a Highway 92 offramp in San Mateo, according to a previous Chronicle report. Mob of more than a dozen men vandalize taco truck in South LA, injuring at least 6 people
More than a dozen men used baseball bats to vandalize a taco truck in South Los Angeles, injuring at least six people, including one of the workers, according to authorities. On Aug. 3, around 12:05 a.m., a group of about 15 males used baseball bats to vandalize a taco truck on Avalon Boulevard and attack people, injuring about six victims, according to LAPD spokesperson Rosario Cervantes. One person was hospitalized with abrasions and lacerations and the other five weren't treated at a hospital, she said. No suspect information is available and no arrests have been made. The motive is still under investigation. The taco truck employees started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the victims of the attack. One of the workers was the person hospitalized for their injuries. 'This is absolutely devastating to us on so many levels, we have been at this location for almost 15 years and nothing like this has ever happened,' according to the page. 'We have never had problems with anyone, our team works extremely hard. We hope that these people are prosecuted for their crimes. Our employees are traumatized by this and we will support them in every way possible.' Video of the attack was also livestreamed on social media, showing the mob smashing windows in the truck. 'When one of my employees called me, 'Please, please call the police because about 25 peoples hit us with baseball bats and metal.'
