New Verizon tactic might compel you to ditch your legacy plan

Carriers really want you off discontinued plans. While T-Mobile has kicked users off legacy plans without obtaining their permission, Verizon has come up with another strategy to make the old 5G Get More and 5G Play More plans less attractive.Both these plans let you enjoy either Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass. These subscription services let you access huge libraries of games for a monthly fee. Apple Arcade costs $6.99 per month, while Google Play Pass is $4.99/month. Verizon offered the game subscription services for free to customers on 5G Get More and 5G Play More plans, which were announced in 2021 but have been grandfathered now.
As first spotted by Droid Life , Verizon has started notifying customers that the perks will soon stop being available to them. The company will discontinue them on September 22 and remove them from accounts on September 25.

Verizon hiked the prices on 5G Get More and 5G Play More by $4 in March, and a few months later, it's removing gaming perks. The company seemingly wants you to think that the plans are now poor value for money compared to what they offered before. It's no coincidence that Verizon sneakily slipped in a reminder that Apple Arcade is available with its newer myPlan. Customers on Verizon plans that come with six months of free Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass will begin to be charged if the promotional period ends before September 25, unless they cancel. If it ends on or after September 25, the subscription will simply be removed from their accounts.
Verizon is reportedly also planning to hit customers with a series of price increases. The carrier has been losing customers due to price hikes, but that apparently hasn't deterred it from making moves that are likely to prove unpopular, such as removing loyalty discounts, which are offered to keep subscribers from switching.

For a largely unremarkable budget-friendly high-end handset with pretty much the same specs and features as its predecessor (at least according to the newest rumors), the Galaxy S25 Fan Edition is sure making a lot of headlines lately, showing its slimmer and sleeker design compared to the S24 FE in all colorways and looking virtually guaranteed for an official announcement over the next couple of months or so. If you want to put a firmer date than that on the S25 FE name, a fresh Korean media report (translated here) will deliver exactly what you're looking for, as well as a ballpark estimate of the handset's possible starting price in its manufacturer's homeland. At least in South Korea, that's apparently when Samsung plans to release its next Fan Edition powerhouse. That's explicitly mentioned as a release date rather than a launch or announcement date, mind you, so there's clearly a good chance the Galaxy S25 FE will be formally unveiled even earlier. Last year's Galaxy S24 FE, for instance, was announced on September 26 and made available in markets like the US on October 3 before expanding to South Korea nearly a month later. The S24 FE was released a little later last year. | Image Credit -- PhoneArena This fall, of course, Samsung is unlikely to take as much time between the S25 FE's rollouts in the two key markets, but if Korean sales are indeed set to begin on September 19, I definitely wouldn't rule out the possibility of a US commercial debut taking place a week or two before that date. Otherwise put, we might be only a few weeks away from the phone's global launch at the time of this writing, which would certainly explain the steady recent stream of Galaxy S25 FE leaks from all sorts of reliable and semi-reliable sources. I realize that a million anything may sound excessive to a lot of Western ears, but the Galaxy S24 FE only costs the equivalent of around $680 in South Korea at 946,000 won, so the Galaxy S25 FE should remain relatively affordable this year at under KRW 1 million. Under the hood, the biggest question mark is still the battery capacity (which could stand at a modest 4,500mAh or much more impressive 4,900mAh), while charging speeds are essentially etched in stone at 45W (up from the S24 FE's 25W limit). Although it's nice to hear in this day and age of a potentially "frozen" price point for a new high-end smartphone, the use of a pretty unremarkable Exynos 2400 processor (at least by 2025 Android flagship standards) had actually made me hope that the Galaxy S25 FE would end up costing less than its predecessor. Guess that's a dream I may need to give up already... while continuing to look forward to what could still be an interesting product launch from the world's top handset vendor next month.

Apple is reportedly looking into bringing its iPad Tandem OLED technology to the iPhone. This will help increase future iPhones' brightness and prolong battery life. Back in 2024, Apple introduced the OLED iPad Pro, which sports Tandem OLED panels. Apparently, now, the Cupertino tech giant is considering using a similar approach on future iPhones, according to sources of The Elec. Reportedly, LG Display talked to Apple about a Simplified Tandem OLED panel back in 2024. Also, Apple has discussed the tech with its main OLED partner, Samsung, as well. According to the report, Apple has yet to decide on whether to go ahead with the Tandem OLED iPhone and may still be in talks with LG and Samsung about it. Typically, Apple operates on a two-year schedule for development and mass production of its devices. The report suggests that the first iPhone models with this tech may appear after 2028. It's a new type of screen tech based on Tandem OLED, which uses two layers of OLED stacked on top of each other. This helps make the screen brighter, use less power, and last screens are great because they light up on their own and don't need a backlight. In regular Tandem OLED, both layers have all three colors – red, green, and blue – so you get extra brightness and better efficiency. But in the simplified version, only the blue subpixels are doubled in the second layer. The red and green stay in just the main layer. This works because blue pixels wear out faster and use more power, so giving them a boost helps the screen last longer without needing to double short: it's a smart way to get the benefits of Tandem OLED, but with lower cost and simpler production. If the rumor is true, future iPhones could have brighter screens that use less battery – and be cheaper to make, too. Back in July 2024, reports indicated that Samsung and LG Display were working on a version of the technology for micro OLED panels. This could potentially be included in an upgraded Apple Vision Pro.
