Saudi Arabia Hosts the Italian Super Cup for Fourth Time
It will mark the fourth time the tournament is hosted in the Kingdom.
Serie A president Ezio Simonelli said the semi-finals will take place on December 18 and 19, with the final scheduled on the 22nd.
The city where the matches will be hosted has not yet been determined, as the decision rests with the host country.
The four teams taking part are Napoli who won the scudetto, Bologna who lifted the Coppa Italia, and runners-up Inter Milan and AC Milan. The tournament was expanded in 2023 to include four clubs.
AC Milan won the most recent edition, beating Inter 3-2 to lift their first Super Cup since 2022.
In another statement, the President of the Italian League, explained that the league contacted the Italian Football Federation, the European Union (UEFA), and the International Federation (FIFA) to submit an official request, to move next February's match between Milan and Como to Australia, as a result from the closure of the San Siro stadium during the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, as it will be used for the opening ceremony, scheduled for February 6-22.
Simonelli said the aim is to draw attention to the league's interest in turning this edition into an opportunity to strengthen the International presence of the Italian League.
Despite these ambitions, the decision to host the competition has not gone down well with many Italian fans.
'A country's Super Cup should never be played abroad,' one vented online.
'They sold their soul to the highest bidder,' said another. 'Football used to be about fans who turn up in stadiums'
And a third was more blunt: 'Nice image of Italian football. All for two Arab pennies. And the fans have to watch it from home. But then the Super League is evil…'

Brahim Díaz Frozen Out: Xabi Alonso Drops Bombshell
Real Madrid's head coach Xabi Alonso has informed Moroccan international Brahim Díaz that he is not in the club's starting plans for the 2025-26 season. According to Marca , Alonso told Díaz that he would begin the season as a substitute, while assuring him that all players would have an opportunity to prove themselves and potentially earn a more prominent role in the squad. Díaz, 25, has struggled to secure a consistent place under both Ancelotti and Alonso. During the Club World Cup, he played just 103 minutes and was left out of key fixtures against Juventus and Borussia Dortmund. Alonso also issued warnings to Rodrygo and Raúl Asencio, stating that competition for starting spots will be intense. Díaz's contract runs until 2027. The Atlas Lion has already collected six trophies with Real Madrid, including a UEFA Champions League title and a Serie A title during his loan at AC Milan. How Much Would AlQadsiah Pay Mateo Retegui?
Saudi club AlQadsiah pulled off a major signing on Monday evening when they landed Italian striker Mateo Retegui, in one of the biggest deals in the club's history. The 26-year-old joined Atalanta BC in 2024 and finished last season as Serie A's top scorer with 25 goals. Over his career, he has made 241 appearances, scoring 84 goals and providing 20 assists across all competitions. Memories captured, and the journey begins ❤️🎥#AlQadsiah | #ReteguiQadsawi — AlQadsiah Saudi Club (@AlQadsiahEN) July 21, 2025 According to Transfermarkt, Retegui was valued at €45 million, but AlQadsiah paid a reported €68 million to secure his signature. Reports suggest the Saudi club made a tempting offer of €20 million per season – nine times up from €2.2 million per year at Atalanta. The striker has signed a four-year deal running until the summer of 2029, potentially earning him €80 million. The move is seen as a major deal for both Al-Qadisiyah and Retegui, though fans' reactions were divided. One fan commented: 'He's a flop, honestly not worth €60 million.' Another replied: 'Top scorer in Serie A – the toughest defensive league in the world – and you're calling him a flop?' A third added: 'Honestly, a great choice. A huge signing and a masterstroke – Retegui is a deadly striker, young and a natural goal-scorer. Congrats to Al-Qadisiyah! A top-class striker, he is way better than Aubameyang. He walks with confidence – like a king.' Tags: AlQadsiahReteguiSaudi league

Football Legend Cafu Says Hakimi is the Best Right Back in the World
Rabat — Former Brazilian football legend Marcos Evangelista de Morais, known as Cafu, has confirmed what a group of other stars believe: Hakimi is the best right-back in the world. Italian sports-focused outlet Gazzetta quoted Cafu, who, without hesitation, commented on Hakimi and described him as the best in the world right now. The remarks come amid a consensus on Hakimi's stellar performance with PSG this season, earning him not only recognition but also support for his Ballon d'Or bid. Fans, public figures from football and beyond are backing the Atlas Lion bid as a potential winner — or at least among the top three contenders — for the Ballon d'Or international award. Additionally, several renowned players from Morocco and beyond believe Hakimi deserves the Ballon d'Or. Morocco's Youssef Chippo said recently that if Hakimi wins the Ballon d'Or, it wouldn't be a mere gift, but that he deserves it. 'He was consistent, decisive, and always stepped up,' he told Le360, adding that the Atlas Lion maintained a 'very high level of performance from the first match to last,' unlike other football stars like Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Debele. French coach Hervé Renard said the same, also noting that he thinks Hakimi is the Ballon d'Or of this season. He shared the same perspective as former Morocco coach Badou Zaki, who said that the Ballon d'Or must go to the player who outshines the rest, and that is Hakimi, who contributed to his team's triumphs during the whole season.
