In a world where people often compete with each other in terms of materialism, weddings have become little more than events to show off one's wealth. But for a brave couple, love is all that matters and that is exactly that.
Instead of a grand feast capable of making holes in one's wallet, the couple decided on a simple meal of Ayam Gepuk at Ayam Gepuk Ori Selayang.

But why Ayam Gepuk? Why not Nasi Lemak? Or perhaps Laksa. There are countless delicious meals out there where the Malaysian gastronomic landscape is being considered.
First off, Ayam Gepuk came from Indonesia, so expect some angry Indonesian critics to come knocking at your door if you ever claimed Ayam Gepuk as Malaysian.
At first glance, the dish may appear ordinary, but what makes it truly exceptional is the sambal, which takes centre stage in this culinary experience.
The sambal used for ayam gepuk is typically known as sambal geprek or sambal gesek. It is made from bird's eye chillies, garlic, peanuts, sugar, salt, and occasionally a dash of seasoning.
Cashew nuts may also be added sometimes. Sounds delicious, and perhaps that was what prompted the couple to treat all their guests with the dish.
On another note, many people may assume that ayam geprek, ayam penyet, and ayam gepuk were the same dish, as their preparation methods are quite similar.

FUAD NIZAM PUTRAJAYA: MALAYSIA'S Next Top Model 2025 brought the glamour of the runway to life for IOI City Mall Fashion Week, celebrating young Malaysian talent with confidence and pride. Organised by ALIST Academy Malaysia, founded by Dr Blake Shiw and Melinda Lee, the event was held from June 21 to 22 and featured some 100 participants aged 4 to 18. The young models showcased their flair on themed runway walks and in performance segments. Melinda said the programme was designed to empower children and teens through confidence-building activities and character development. "It is more than a modelling competition. The annual event is a platform to identify future Malaysian representatives for international pageants and modelling contests. "Since 2023, ALIST Academy has trained 103 young talents who have gone on to represent the country in 18 international events, an achievement recognised by the Asean Records." Wendy Lee, whose son has been with ALIST Academy since age 3, said the programme has helped him overcome his shyness. "Before my son joined, he was camera-shy. To perform in public, he was a bit nervous. But now, after much practice and joining ALIST and engaging in modelling, magic and K-pop, he's confident to showcase his talent in public." Now 11, her son has not only performed locally but also abroad. "We're proud of his achievement and not only in Malaysia. ALIST Academy has gone on to the international stage. "We just came back from Kazakhstan. We learnt about Kazakhstan's culture and food. We brought Malaysia, by designer Aden Yong, to showcase there." Melinda said this year's programme featured four main segments: 'Saya Anak Malaysia', a runway celebrating traditional and modern attire; 'Toy World', a whimsical concept inspired by childhood nostalgia; 'Parent & Kid Fashion Show', which featured creative family duos in matching outfits; and, 'Supermodel Battle PK', a sports-inspired catwalk contest where participants faced off in posing duels. She said eight winners emerged from the Supermodel Battle PK category — Ong Yu Shan, Lee Chen Er, Pandra Chai, Diorlyn Lim Jia Qian, Exin Ong, Kate Ng Kay Lyn, Avery Chan Si Rui and Ferra Lee. "The grand winners of the competition are Jo Melone Tan, Tobey Koo, Reannbelle Lua Zenxi, Diorlyn Lim Jia Qian and Kate Ng Kay Lyn. "The academy also named a group of IDOLs and ambassadors to represent the event's values and serve as role models to their peers. "Among the selected IDOLs are Oon Jya Chyen, Cheryl Soo, Elyn Loh, Caprice Hue, Emilia Goh and Jeavyn Khoo. The Ambassadors included Eunice Khaw, Jackie Khoo, Sherven Ng, Kimerly Low, Allie Saw, Ray Soo, Jerju Loo and Sim Yu Min." Zii Jia's cryptic images on social media send fans and friends into frenzy
PETALING JAYA: A single Instagram post was all it took to stir widespread concern for shuttler Lee Zii Jia, whose cryptic message yesterday left friends and fans rallying support for him. The former national No. 1 posted a series of disturbing images on his account, which included one of a faceless, stitched-up figure holding a long, blood-stained needle. While none of his fans and friends are certain of the true meaning behind his post, they have rallied behind him, offering their support and making sure Zii Jia isn't alone in his struggles. Women's singles shuttler and good friend of Zii Jia, Goh Jin Wei, wrote, 'Time will heal everything,' while mixed doubles shuttler Lai Pei Jing said, 'Let's work hard together.' Young doubles shuttler Yap Roy King was also concerned, asking, 'Are you okay bro?', while another mixed doubles player Goh Soon Huat made sure to also leave an emoji to show his support. Even athletes from other sports hopped over to make sure Zii Jia was seen, with national squash player Ng Eain Yow saying, 'Come on, friend!'. From China, three-time Olympic diving gold medallist Quan Hongchan said, 'Keep fighting!' The year hasn't been the best for Zii Jia, with him only participating in two tournaments so far, the Orleans Masters and All-England in March, before announcing a break from the courts to nurse a foot injury. The posts shared by Zii Jia were reposted from China's Xiaohongshu app, which was originally drawn by an artist on Instagram known as Omar El Badri or Axil Tinsti. Being absent from the court certainly has its effects on any shuttler, as Zii Jia's ranking has dropped to world No. 27, but he has applied for a protected ranking from the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to safeguard his position during the layoff.
