ALEXANDER ISAK is training alone at his former club after telling Newcastle he wants to leave.
The Swedish ace, 25, informed the Magpies of his desire to quit them last week, with Liverpool the frontrunners to land him.

Isak did not travel to Singapore with the rest of the Toon squad to focus on his recovery following a minor thigh injury.
But the ace has since been seen training alone at the club he was employed by before joining Newcastle, Real Sociedad.
Reports in Spain revealed Isak was training at the San Sebastian club's training facilities in Zubieta.
However, Sky Sports adds he has not gone AWOL, with Newcastle chiefs aware of his whereabouts.

Earlier this week, it was reported Isak had reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool after the Premier League champions offered him a deal to more than double his £130,000-a-week wages on Tyneside.
The Anfield outfit have already added Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike to their books in deals worth almost £300million.
But with the £65m sale of Colombian winger Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich - combined with a strong PSR position from minimal spending last summer - it has given Liverpool chiefs the robustness to prepare an offer for Isak.
It is understood Toon want a Premier League transfer record deal of £150m to consider selling their star man.

However, Liverpool believe they can chip the deal down to a more palatable £120m.
Should the two clubs reach an agreement, Newcastle will immediately look to recruit one or two new strikers to replace the output - 27 goals and six assists in all competitions last season - lost from Isak's departure.

In the event Isak is sold, Real Sociedad are set to make a tidy sum from the deal thanks to a reported 10 per cent sell-on clause which could bank them around £8.5m.
Benjamin Sesko was said to be one target, but the 22-year-old is also a target for Manchester United, while the Red Devils' own Rasmus Hojlund is now under consideration by St James' Park bosses.
Elsewhere, Ollie Watkins could be available for around £40m, while the likes of Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson and Brentford's Yoane Wissa are also on the market - the latter now being unsettled following a rejected offer by Nottingham Forest.

ARSENAL 2-3 VILLARREAL Viktor Gyokeres made his first start in Arsenal colours as the Gunners geared up for the new season with a home friendly against Villarreal Arsenal continued their pre-season preparations with a 3-2 defeat against Villarreal, though there were some causes for optimism. The match brought a first Gunners start for Viktor Gyokeres after his big-money move from Sporting CP, but the striker wasn't able to mark the occasion with a goal. Nicolas Pepe came back to haunt his former club, with his shot possibly clipping team-mate Karl Etta Eyong on its way into the Gunners net. Bukayo Saka threatened a quick leveller, forcing a low save from goalkeeper Luiz Junior after cutting inside, but Eyong doubled the visitors lead when he followed up after a big David Raya save. Christian Norgaard got one back for the Gunners, but it was Villarreal who led at the break. Mikel Arteta changed things up at the break. with Norgaard making way for Martin Zubimendi and fellow new boy Cristhian Mosquera coming on for Ben White. A further flurry of changes appeared to disrupt Arsenal's momentum, and Arnaut Danjuma restored the visitors' two-goal advantage. Martin Odegaard reduced the deficit from the penalty spot, but Arsenal couldn't find a third - despite Dowman continuing to pose a threat as he continues his impressive pre-season. Arsenal have one more friendly, against Athletic Club in the Emirates Cup on Saturday, before beginning their Premier League campaign against Manchester United eight days later. Here are Mirror Football 's talking points from the Gunners' penultimate pre-season game. 1. Gyokeres still getting into gear After a brief run-out from the bench against Tottenham, Gyokeres had a chance to show what he can do from the get-go. The Swede showed flashes, but will have to wait to open his account for his new club. There was a half-chance inside the first 15 minutes, only for Gyokeres to fail to bring the ball under his spell as a cross came in from the right. The Gunners were clearly keen to attack down the flanks early on, with Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka providing an obvious threat. He found a proper sight of goal around the hour mark, forcing a smart save from Luiz Junior with a powerful effort from the edge of the six-yard box. That was his last chance, though, with his evening coming to an end after an hour. 2. Pepe scores on return There will be a fair few Arsenal fans hoping Gyokeres makes a bigger impact than fellow big-money signing Nicolas Pepe. The Ivorian winger cost more than £70m from Lille back in 2019, but ended up leaving for nothing and is now on Villarreal's books. He looked up for the game, perhaps keen to show his old employers what they were missing. There was even a muted celebration after he helped the ball into the home net early on. A little later on, the more frustrating side of Pepe was on show as he tried to run at Myles Lewis-Skelly but was watched well by the youngster. Despite that early goal, Lewis-Skelly got the better of the direct duels between the pair - though Pepe will surely chalk it up as a personal victory after finding the net. 3. Norgaard up and running Gyokeres wasn't the only Arsenal new boy to start the match. Christian Norgaard's arrival came with a little less fanfare, but he got the nod to play alongside Mikel Merino in the middle. The Danish midfielder wasn't signed for his goal threat, but he won't have been complaining. Just a few minutes after Villarreal got their second, Norgaard arrived late to head home a Martinelli corner at the back post. Martinelli should take just as much credit for his deep delivery. It looks like those discussions of the Gunners' set piece provess won't go away just yet. 4. Kiwior caught out With Gabriel working his way back to full fitness, Jakub Kiwior partnered William Saliba at the back. And he didn't have his proudest moment for the opener. The Polish defender looked to use his strength to hold off the threat of Eyong and Pepe as the Gunners failed to clear their lines. Sometimes, though, a more simple clearance can be the better option. It didn't get a great deal better after Gabriel's arrival, with former Spurs star Danjuma rounding off a quick counter-attack. Arteta will hope it was a case of getting sloppy defending out of their system. 5. Nwaneri sends reminder as Dowman shines again Ethan Nwaneri's minutes for Arsenal have largely come in an attacking role, but he started in a deeper berth on Wednesday. The youngster was essentially filling the role usually occupied by Martin Odegaard, and he showed more than enough with the ball to suggest he can do the same against certain Premier League opponents. It won't always be the right play, with more physical teams potentially able to take advantage. However, his ball-carrying from deep gives the Gunners a different option. Fellow youngster Max Dowman also got some more minutes, showing te home fans what he's all about. He didn't take long, either, drawing a foul from which Odegaard scored Arsenal's second of the evening, and a league bow looks like a matter of when not if.

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak was told to report for training on Wednesday after the rest of the squad had left as uncertainty over his future continues. The 25-year-old Sweden international did not travel with his team-mates on their pre-season trip to Singapore and South Korea, ostensibly because of a minor thigh injury, after Liverpool, who subsequently tabled a £110million bid for him, let it be known they remained interested in acquiring his services. Isak, who later informed the club he wanted to explore his options this summer, instead flew to Spain to train at former club Real Sociedad and returned to Tyneside at the weekend, shortly before head coach Eddie Howe and his squad landed back from Seoul and were given two days off. The players were back at the training ground on Wednesday morning and their families were invited to join them after training. However, the PA news agency understands Isak, who reported back to the club's Benton base on Monday, was told not to come in until after they had left and was pictured arriving at around 1550. The £63million frontman has been a huge hit since his arrival from Sociedad during the summer of 2022 and played a key role last season as they ended their 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy with the Carabao Cup and qualified for the Champions League for the second time in three seasons. However questioned about his absence in South Korea, Howe signalled that his actions might have repercussions. The 47-year-old told reporters: 'You have to earn the right to train with us. We are Newcastle United. 'The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and part of a squad – you have to act in the right way. So that is also at play here. 'We will make sure that any player earns the right to train with the group. No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal.' Isak is understood to have undergone treatment and light training at a deserted training ground on Monday and it remains to be seen whether he will have any involvement in the club's pre-season fixtures against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid this weekend. The striker faces clear-the-air talks with Howe, with his situation becoming seemingly more complicated by the day as a difficult transfer window threatens to spiral further out of control. Newcastle tabled an improved club record bid for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko on Monday in an effort to beat Manchester United to the punch, but developments since suggest the 22-year-old is more likely to head for Old Trafford than St James' Park. That would represent the latest blow in a transfer window which has already seen the Magpies miss out on major targets Dean Huijsen, Bryan Mbeumo, Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro, James Trafford and Liam Delap. They have managed to recruit Nottingham Forest wide man Anthony Elanga and, on loan, Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, but with frontman Callum Wilson and midfielder Sean Longstaff having left, there is significant work to be done, with the start of the new season just 10 days away. Howe was already looking for a striker before the Isak situation came to a head and, with three years remaining on the Swede's current deal – he has so far resisted the club's overtures to sign a new contract – there seems to be little prospect of the club allowing him to leave either before they have secured a replacement or for much less than their £150m valuation, having already rebuffed Liverpool's initial approach. Meanwhile, sources on Tyneside have played down suggestions that Newcastle have tabled a bid for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw, but it is understood they are maintaining an interest in the Germany international.

Arsenal and Manchester United have been told they missed a trick by not considering a move for Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez this summer. Signing a striker has been a priority for a host of Premier League clubs this summer, including Arsenal and United. After injuries forced Arsenal to deploy Mikel Merino as a makeshift striker last season, the Gunners were keen to bring in a natural striker, eventually settling on Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres. Arsenal had also given heavy consideration to signing Benjamin Sesko, but the RB Leipzig striker now looks poised to join United after spurning a similar offer from Newcastle United. However, former Premier League striker Dean Saunders reckons both clubs should have looked closer to home and namechecked Nunez as a player who they both should have tried to sign. Would you rather not have Nunez than Sesko and Gyokeres?' Saunders told talkSPORT. 'They paid a lot of money for them, and I thought, 'he's up for grabs.' I would take a chance on him. Saunders added: 'He's got every finish in his locker, both feet, headers, he's gone round the keeper, he's slotted the keeper, he's chipped the keeper, he's scored from distance. 'We've seen him do every finish, but somehow he manages to conjure up a miss – I don't know how many times he hit the post and the crossbar last season. 'There's definitely a player in there, you look at him and think, 'what a handful he is to play against.' More Trending 'He scored a lot of goals for Benfica in his second season and a couple of seasons ago he got 20-odd for Liverpool. 'I wouldn't be surprised if Nunez goes somewhere else and scores 20 goals next season.' Nunez's departure to Saudi Arabia could well clear the way for Liverpool to renew their interest in Alexander Isak, who has indicated he wants to leave Newcastle this summer.
