UNC attempts to clear air on Jordon Hudson's role after banishment rumors swirl

New York Post09-05-2025

The University of North Carolina and Pablo Torre are now in a war of words regarding the rumored ban of football coach Bill Belichick's girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, from the school's practices.
Hours after Torre alleged on his 'Pablo Torre Finds Out' program that the 24-year-old is no longer welcome at Tar Heels practices, UNC's athletics department released a statement disputing the claim.
'While Jordon Hudson is not an employee at the University or Carolina Athletics, she is welcome to the Carolina Football facilities. Jordon will continue to manage all activities related to Coach Belichick's personal brand outside of his responsibilities for Carolina Football and the University,' Carolina Athletics told The Post in a statement.

Despite UNC's rebuttal, Torre is standing by what's been reported on his show.
'The University of North Carolina can choose to describe or change its position on Jordon Hudson's involvement however it wishes, following the publication of our episode,' Torre said in a statement obtained by The Post. 'We requested comment and filed dozens of FOIA requests that were not satisfied. And we stand by the specific reporting in our episode, which came from the highest levels of the football program.'

Torre had said, via numerous sources, that Hudson was no longer allowed on the North Carolina football field or inside its football facility.
'There is deep worry for how detrimental Jordon can be for not just North Carolina but Bill's legacy, reputation — everything he has built and worked for over decades,' a Belichick family source told Torre.
Hudson and Belichick, 73, have been the talk of the offseason as her antics and seemingly controlling nature over the reserved coach have left many puzzled.

Hudson was spotted at a Tar Heel practice in April, with fans questioning why exactly she needed to be on the field alongside Belichick as he coached.
Around the same time, news broke that Belichick had requested UNC staffers to include Hudson in any emails sent to him.

Torre also reported that the 24-year-old is essentially Belichick's 'de facto agent' and 'she happened to use that power to be in the [Dunkin' Super Bowl] commercial as well.'
Torre's program comes just weeks after Belichick and Hudson stirred more controversy following a disastrous 'CBS Sunday Morning' interview when the former college cheerleader punted a question about how the couple met.
It's been reported they first crossed paths aboard a plane in 2021.

Bill Belichick keeps relitigating his disastrous CBS interview

Bill Belichick is one of the greatest football coaches of all time. His P.R. instincts leave much to be desired. Beyond entrusting his personal brand to his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, Belichick has a bad habit of not letting sleeping dogs lie and/or dead horses go unbeaten. Case in point, now reports that Belichick's book publicist assured Belichick that the disastrous CBS interview would be only about Belichick's book. Advertisement The report emerged today, more than a month after the CBS interview aired. And it has reanimated a dormant issue. The article cites an April 9 email from Simon & Schuster's senior director of publicity David Kass to Belichick. Wrote Kass: "I can assure you that the conversation [will be] about the book." Kass also reportedly told Belichick the CBS interview would be a "puff piece . . . designed to make everyone look good and sell books." (Somewhat surprisingly, the new report doesn't blame Kass for suggesting that Belichick wear an old football jersey with a giant hole in the neck to the CBS interview.) Per Belichick was "furious" when the CBS interview strayed beyond book topics. Then there's this: "Sources say Belichick had actually shot down several interview opportunities Kass had put in front of him over concerns the media outlets would use his book promotion as a way to pry into subjects not related to the actual book." Advertisement It's a fascinating development, for several reasons. First, the story is smeared with Belichick's (or Hudson's) fingerprints. Which means that one or both decided to dredge up a dead story, weeks after the fact. Which also means that one or both believed the new story would cause people to say, "Well, now we understand why she weirdly refused to let him answer the basic question of how they met." Second, one or both decided to throw Kass under the bus, both directly and by potentially instigating a stray, conspiracy theory-inducing remark that Kass "once helped Jeff Benedict's Robert Kraft-themed book, The Dynasty, reach the New York Times' bestseller list." Kass is painted as the villain in this, the one who lied to Belichick about what the CBS interview was going to be. Third, Belichick did other interviews in which questions unrelated to the book were asked — after the CBS sit-down. Michael Strahan asked a few personal questions on Good Morning America. Ryan Clark asked questions about Hudson on The Pivot Podcast. (Then again, those questions apparently were scripted to help Belichick undo the CBS-related P.R. damage.) Advertisement Fourth, Belichick and/or Hudson apparently have decided to try to get on their side by spoon-feeding information to the outlet. Given the extent to which had been hammering all things Belichick and Hudson, a subtle quid pro quo that gets to play nice in exchange for current and future information would be a smart move by Belichick. Make no mistake about it. The issue is back on the front burner because Belichick and/or Hudson decided it would be a smart move to point a finger at Kass, weeks after the fact. And it's just the latest time Belichick and/or Hudson have blamed others for their own blunders. He/she/they have blamed CBS for editing the interview to create a "false narrative." He/she/they have blamed North Carolina for not having a sufficient P.R. function in place when he arrived. He/she/they now blame Kass for failing to (wait for it) "do his job" properly. It's always someone else's fault. It's never their fault. And they presumably think people will buy the idea that they're the victims of widespread incompetence and malfeasance.

UNC-Chapel Hill forward Ven-Allen Lubin transfers to NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. (WGHP) — Name, Image and Likeness and the transfer portal have greatly altered the landscape of college basketball in recent years. That reality came to the forefront for Tobacco Road basketball fans earlier this week when University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill forward Ven-Allen Lubin transferred to rival North Carolina State University. NC State's new head coach, ,. 'It's gonna be a reckoning for the ACC': New NC State coach Will Wade says the 'Pack is Back' Lubin was a key contributor for the Tar Heels last season, playing in 37 games and making 20 starts. He averaged 8.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game in an average of 19.6 minutes per contest, . Lubin's role at UNC really crystallized down the stretch; he averaged 15.7 points per game and 11 rebounds during the ACC Tournament and was a key part in the Tar Heels . He arrived at UNC after spending a season at the University of Notre Dame and Vanderbilt University, making the Wolfpack his fourth team in as many seasons. 'We're thrilled to welcome Ven-Allen to our program. Physically, he stands out with a wingspan over seven feet and a strong, powerful frame. Offensively, he creates mismatches—he can score over smaller defenders in the post and has the quickness to drive past bigger ones. He also showed the ability while at Vanderbilt to step out and be a weapon from three-point range and we'll look to build off of that. He's an incredibly efficient scorer, having led his team in field goal percentage each of his first three college seasons. Beyond that, he has a high basketball IQ and will be a tremendous presence in our locker room.' NC State head coach Will Wade This is not the first time a former Tar Heel has donned an NC State jersey. Would any NFL team hire Bill Belichick? One possibility stands out.

When the Patriots fired Bill Belichick, it seemed inevitable that he'd land another NFL head-coaching job. The vibe has since shifted from inevitability to impossibility. But there's still one team to watch, in our view. It came up during Wednesday's PFT Live, when Simms and I were identifying coaches that need to do more than make the playoffs in 2025. Although Todd Bowles has won the NFC South in each of his three seasons as Tampa Bay's head coach, the Buccaneers have a unique history, to say the least, when it comes to the coaching position. In 2009, they abruptly dumped Jon Gruden for Raheem Morris. Three years later, they hired Greg Schiano. They surprisingly fired Lovie Smith in 2016, apparently in order to avoid losing offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to another team. And some still believe that Tom Brady's unretirement in 2022 (after his path to Miami was blocked) was conditioned on Bruce Arians being nudged into retirement. Last year, Belichick consigliere Michael Lombardi was spreading a false rumor that Bowles may retire after the season. (Bowles quickly shut that down.) Which sparked speculation that Belichick was eyeballing the Buccaneers. So why would Lombardi be trying to speak a vacancy into existence? Maybe because that's one of the jobs Belichick would want. Even with all of the craziness that has happened of late, the Bucs can't be ruled out as a potential destination for Belichick. Again, they hired Greg Schiano. Much of it depends on what the Bucs do (or don't do) in 2025, and what the Tar Heels do (or don't do) in 2025. Still, with Belichick's buyout down to $1 million as of last Sunday, let's not assume no one at the NFL level will want Belichick. The Bucs have the talent; if ownership decides that an excellent game-day coach could get them back to the top of the mountain, it's not as nutty as it may seem. We're not saying Bowles shouldn't keep the job. We're jus trying to stay ahead of the curve. And the curve could indeed bend in unexpected ways in Tampa. Because it has before. More than once.
