Giants legend out at CBS amid major NFL shakeup ahead of new season

Daily Mail2 days ago
Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber will have a different NFL gameday experience this year than in recent seasons.
Barber, 50, was left off CBS' broadcast roster for the 2025 NFL season after having previously worked each season since 2019.
Rather than appear on televisions for broadcast duties, Barber will instead be working directly with his former team.
Barber will be a pre-game and post-game show co-host for Giants gameday broadcasts on radio station WFAN.
The running back will be joined by John Schmeelk of Giants.com for the show.
'I am really excited to be joining the Giants gameday radio broadcast team on WFAN,' Barber said. 'This organization has meant so much to me professionally and personally.
Replacing Barber will be Charles Davis (R). Davis, who is set to move to CBS's college football coverage in 2026, will broadcast alongside Andrew Catalon next year rather than Ian Eagle (L).
'The Giants have a long history of legendary broadcasters, and Wellington Mara always told them to call it like they see it because our fans know better.
'I look forward to providing analysis and insight that Giants fans appreciate.'
Barber was a second-round pick by the Giants in 1997 out of the University of Virginia - spending his entire career with the team before retiring in 2006.
Last season, as a part of the team's 100th anniversary, Barber was named one of the 100 Greatest Giants of All Time.
The move to drop Barber from CBS follows on from a move announced in March which will see a few new broadcast teams formed at the company.
Back in March, it was announced that JJ Watt would be moving from the network's pregame show - 'The NFL Today' - to become the new analyst on CBS's No. 2 broadcast team alongside play-by-play man Ian Eagle.
Eagle's former on-air partner, Charles Davis, is taking Barber's old job in the booth alongside play-by-play man Andrew Catalon and analyst Jason McCourty.
Davis is set to move to CBS's college football coverage in 2026. It's unclear if he'll stay in this NFL role next year as well.

Orioles rally late against Cubs behind Gunnar Henderson's homer

August 2 - Gunnar Henderson belted a three-run homer in the four-run eighth inning to lift the visiting Baltimore Orioles to a 4-3 win against the Chicago Cubs in the middle game of their three-game series on Saturday afternoon. Ryan Brasier replaced Cubs starter Matthew Boyd to start the eighth inning and walked the leadoff batter on four pitches before giving up a single to Jeremiah Jackson. Caleb Thielbar (2-3) replaced Brasier with one out and surrendered an RBI single to Jordan Westburg to cut it to 3-1 and end an 18-inning scoreless streak for Baltimore. Henderson then stepped up and blasted a home run into the wind in dead center to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead. Orioles right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano went five innings, allowing three runs and five hits while striking out five and walking one. Corbin Martin, Grant Wolfram (2-0) and Yennier Cano combined for three shutout innings before Keegan Akin pitched the ninth for his first save of the season. Westburg had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Jackson also had two hits for the Orioles, who lost the series opener 1-0 on Friday afternoon. Willi Castro tripled, singled, and scored twice in his team debut and Nico Hoerner contributed three hits and two RBIs for the Cubs, who had won two in a row. Boyd allowed four hits over seven shutout innings. He struck out eight and didn't walk a batter. Sugano got the first out of the second inning before Ian Happ doubled to right on a 3-2 pitch. Castro, who was acquired from the Minnesota Twins on Thursday, hit a sinking liner to left that was originally ruled a catch by Colton Cowser, but the umpires convened and quickly changed it to a hit. Happ remained at second but scored when Hoerner belted a line drive into the left-field corner that stuck in the ivy for a ground-rule double, scoring Happ for a 1-0 lead and putting runners on second and third. Reese McGuire followed with a sacrifice fly to left to drive in Castro for a 2-0 lead. Castro tripled to center with one out in the fourth and Hoerner followed with an RBI single to right to make it 3-0. --Field Level Media

Jerry Jones risks more outrage from Cowboys stars after brutal take on Micah Parsons' trade request

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has delivered a brutal verdict on Micah Parsons' decision to submit an official trade request. The Cowboys' top defensive star, 26, had been locked in a tense standoff with the franchise throughout the offseason as they continued to fail to reach an agreement over a new contract extension. And with no deal in sight heading into the second week of training camp, the pass rusher has officially attempted to force his way out of Jerry Jones's team. Parsons announced that he had formally submitted a trade request in a bombshell statement on social media Friday afternoon, saying: 'I no longer want to be here.' Reports later emerged that a number of Cowboys stars had turned on owner Jones in the wake of Parsons' contract demand but it appears their owner is unbothered. Speaking publicly about the matter for the first time on Saturday afternoon, Jones told reporters: 'I would say to our fans, don't lose any sleep over this.' More to follow...
