Why Sourav Ganguly ‘didn't like' Rishabh Pant in Australia during BGT? How can Indian vice-captain improve in England?
Rishabh Pant was heavily criticised for his choice of shots against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. In nine innings, Pant managed just 255 runs with the best of 61 in the fifth and final Test in Sydney. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly didn't hesitate in admitting that he 'didn't like' the wicketkeeper's show in Australia as the latter 'kept swinging' his bat too often.
A few months later, another challenge awaits Pant in England as India prepare for a gruelling five-match Test series, starting on June 20 at Headingly. 'He's a very good player, but he has to continue playing the way he played a few years ago,' Ganguly told Revsportz.
'I saw him in Australia, and I didn't like what I saw. Too many shots. He kept swinging. The ball decked around at certain venues,' added Ganguly, who had worked with Pant closely at Delhi Capitals last year.
With the England pitches known for its movement and bounce, Ganguly advised Pant to grind in the middle and not swing against every single delivery. Calling Pant a natural stroke-maker, Ganguly urged the southpaw to adapt to the situation and prolong his innings.
'He has got the ability, there is no doubt about that, but it's about the application. I want to see some more fight from him. He's got a very good defence. So, he has to defend,' added Ganguly.
Notably, Pant is coming after a morale-boosting hundred in the Indian Premier League following his below-par show throughout the entire season with Lucknow Super Giants.
In England, Pant has played nine matches, scoring 556 runs at an average of 32.70 with two centuries. While eight of his matches came against England, Pant's other Test came against New Zealand in the inaugural World Test Championship final in 2021. Both his hundreds on English soil came against England.

Leroy Sane Officially Unveiled As Galatasaray Player; Walks Out Of Bayern For Free
Last Updated: Sane's move comes as part of a reportedly concerted effort by the Turkish champions to entice star striker Victor Osimhen to consider staying at Galatasaray. The deal is done. In yet another whirlwind move, Galatasaray acquired the services of Leroy Sane, from Bayern Munich, on a free transfer on Thursday, officially announcing him to the masses. Sane, capped 70 times for Germany, has bagged 61 goals and registered 55 assists in 220 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, and walked away from the Alliannz after denying a contract extension. 📌 Official communication from Galatasaray SK:An agreement has been reached with the football player Leroy Aziz Sané for a period of three seasons, starting from July 1, 2025. According to the agreement, the player will be paid a net guaranteed salary of €9.000.000 per… — Galatasaray EN (@Galatasaray) June 12, 2025 'An agreement has been reached with the football player Leroy Aziz Sané for a period of three seasons, starting from July 1, 2025," Galatasaray wrote on their official release on X. 'According to the agreement, the player will be paid a net guaranteed salary of €9.000.000 per season, along with a net loyalty bonus of €3.000.000 per season." Sane, on the other hand, joined Bayern in 2020, signing a five-year deal from English side Manchester City, where he won the Premier League title in 2018 and 2019. With the Bavarians, the German winger went on to win the Bundesliga four times, including the most recent campaign, as well as two DFL-Supercups, one UEFA Super Cup, and a Club World Cup. Osimhen was key to Galatasaray winning the domestic Double, scoring 37 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions. It was a campaign that showed he's definitely not lost his scoring touch, but his game goes well beyond goals. Osimhen, who is on loan from Napoli, has his release fee reduced to £65 million from £100 million after his move to Galatasaray. Given his success during the 2024/25 season, it is no surprise that the Turkish champions want him back permanently, but that could now be a difficult deal to commit to financially, even with claims being made that they are hopeful it will actually help their chances of him joining.

Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka govt hints at RCB announcement in Ahmedabad after IPL win being a trigger
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cricket team made an announcement on June 3 in Ahmedabad at 11.30 pm about hosting celebrations in Bengaluru on June 4 for its first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) final victory, the Karnataka government Thursday said in a factual narration of events in a report given to the Karnataka High Court on the June 4 stampede at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy cricket stadium that resulted in the death of 11 RCB fans. 'On factual narration what emerges is that on the evening of June 3, at 11.30 PM, they have stated that they are coming to Bengaluru for celebrations,' state Advocate General K M Shashikiran Shetty told a division bench of the Karnataka High Court after providing a report in a sealed cover on the stampede deaths, as sought by the court. The high court has posed nine questions to the Karnataka government with regard to the June 4 stampede. Among the questions posed by the HC are, 'When and who has taken the decision to hold the victory celebration and in what manner?' Whether 'any permission was sought to organize the event?' and 'whether any SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) has been formulated to manage a crowd of 50,000 and above in any sports event and celebrations of this nature?' The Karnataka government, which also felicitated the RCB team on June 4 in Bengaluru, has been arguing in the courts that the cause of the stampede at the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium was the unilateral decision of RCB to invite fans for an open celebration in Bengaluru on June 4 – through announcements in Ahmedabad on June 3 (including those by key RCB players after the win) and social media posts early on June 4. The government has argued that open invitations were extended to fans without RCB obtaining the official clearances needed from the Bengaluru police for hosting the event. 'The pre incident, the incident, the post incident – we have given a factual narration and answered all your queries to the extent possible on the basis of the material that is available,' the Karnataka advocate general told the HC on Thursday after handing over a report. The division bench of the HC comprising Acting Chief Justice V Kameswar Rao and Justice C M Joshi adjourned the suo motu petition for further hearing on June 17 after noting that the AG had 'filed the report sought by us'. The high court also ordered that 'all the original correspondence – both offline/online – of all stakeholders involved in organizing the event should be kept in safe custody.' The HC identified the Karnataka chief secretary to be the custodian of the correspondence. In the wake of the Bengaluru stampede, the state government had suspended five police officers – including the Bengaluru police commissioner – on June 6. It also constituted a one-man judicial commission to probe the stampede incident and the deaths.

Manchester United complete signing of Brazil forward Matheus Cunha
Manchester United completed the signing of Brazil international Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday. The 26-year-old forward signed a five-year contract to 2030, with the option of a further 12 months. "Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother's house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt," Cunha said. United paid a reported 62.5 million pounds ($84 million) for Cunha, who is expected to be one of several signings for the fallen Premier League giant as coach Ruben Amorim looks to overhaul his squad following a woeful season. Cunha scored 17 goals for Wolves last season. The United attack had the fifth worst scoring record in the English top flight last term. "All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top," he said. United was 15th in the standings, its worst position since the Premier League era began in 1992. It also had its most losses in a Premier League season and recorded its lowest points total. The joint record 20-time English champion has gone 12 years without the title since last winning it in former manager Alex Ferguson's final season in 2013. "Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window," said Jason Wilcox, United director of football. "He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves, and before that in Spain and Germany. "He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours." As well as Cunha, United is also interested in Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
