A new list of the world's wealthiest actors was released by Esquire Magazine earlier this year. The list, which ranks acting superstars based on their current net worth, throws up quite a few surprises and also omits a few names that rival publication Forbes includes. But perhaps the biggest surprise is right up top - as a 77-year-old who has seen no new release in 6 years has topped the list. According to Esquire, action superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger is the richest actor in the world with a massive net worth of $1.49 billion. Since first becoming a billionaire in January, Arnold has increased his holdings significantly. To many, Arnold sitting at the top, way ahead of reigning superstars like Dwayne Johnson, Tom Cruise, and Shah Rukh Khan, may be surprising. More so because Arnold's last theatrical release was Terminator: Dark Fate back in 2019. The star has not been seen in a film in six years, but will mark his big-screen comeback with two projects this year - Kung Fury 2 and The Man with the Bag.
Esquire notes that Arnold's rise to billionaire status has been on the back of his smart investments. "He gained entry into the three comma club primarily by pouring his earnings into real estate, from his earliest days as an actor. As a result, he now owns a vast real estate empire along with a 5% stake in one of the world's biggest investment firms," says his citation in the report. In the second spot on Esquire's list is Dwayne Johnson. The wrestler-turned-actor has a net worth of $1.19 billion, largely due to his stake in the $2-billion Teremana Tequila. Tom Cruise comes in the third spot with a net worth of $891 million, followed by Asia's richest actor, Shah Rukh Khan, who rounds off the top 4 with a net worth of $876 million, according to Esquire. The others in the top 10 include George Clooney, Robert de Niro, Brad Pitt, Jack Nicholson, Tom Hanks, and Jackie Chan.
Esquire's list also excludes people not known primarily for acting. So names like Tyler Perry (studio executive and also an actor) and Jerry Seinfeld (stand-up comic) do not feature here, even though they have both acted in multiple films and are both billionaires.

Universal Music CEO breaks silence on Drake's lawsuit over Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us: ‘Makes no sense'

Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge has slammed Drake for his lawsuit against the company. The Canadian artist sued the music corporation in January over the release of Kendrick Lamar's popular diss track, Not Like Us. He accused the label of defaming him by knowingly promoting 'false' and 'dangerous' narratives about him. However, the 65-year-old refuted the claims in a declaration letter filed Thursday with a New York federal court, arguing that the God's Plan rapper's allegation 'makes no sense,' Forbes and Variety reported. File photo of Kendrick Lamar and Drake(AP) Universal Music boss slams Drake's lawsuit over Not Like Us Grainge wrote in the letter that 'claims that I was behind a scheme to 'devalue' [Drake's] brand through the release and promotion of the Kendrick Lamar recording 'Not Like Us' — an allegation that makes no sense due to the fact that the company that I run, Universal Music Group N.V., has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in Drake, including longstanding and critical financial support for his recording career, the purchase and ownership of the bulk of his recording catalog, and the purchase of his music publishing rights.' He further slammed the 38-year-old's allegations that 'the music company that decided to publish, promote, exploit, and monetize allegations that it understood were not only false, but dangerous.' Grainge called Family Matters rapper's claims of his involvement 'farcical.' 'Given Drake's motion, I would like to make it quite clear that I had never heard the recording 'Not Like Us,' nor ever saw the corresponding cover art or music video, until after they were released by Interscope Records,' he added, per Variety. While One Dance hitmaker filed the lawsuit over the viral diss track, he did not sue Lamar. UMG is listed as the only defendant in his legal filings, including an amended complaint filed in April, per Forbes. The complaint clearly states that the 'lawsuit is not about the artist who created 'Not Like Us'.' Grainge's letter comes days after Drake's legal team sought evidence, including the Swimming Pools rapper's contract and other sensitive information.

AT&T customers may get up to $7,500 in $177m data breach settlement: Eligibility and how to claim your amount

Millions of current and former AT&T customers in the United States could be entitled to compensation of up to $7,500 each, after the telecoms giant agreed to a $177 million settlement linked to two major data breaches, reported Forbes. According to the publication, a federal judge in Texas has approved two settlement funds totalling $149 million and $28 million, covering separate incidents that exposed sensitive customer data. The first breach, discovered in March 2024, involved the personal information of 7.6 million current customers and 65 million former account holders being posted on the so-called dark web. The company has since confirmed that the compromise actually occurred in 2019. Data affected included names, contact details, dates of birth, account numbers, passcodes and, in some cases, social security numbers, added the report. Reportedly, the second incident came to light in July 2024, when AT&T confirmed that a 2022 breach involving third-party platform Snowflake had exposed phone numbers, call records and, in rare cases, cell site identification data. AT&T denies liability for both breaches, stating that it agreed to the settlement to avoid lengthy and costly legal proceedings. (This is a developing story, check for more updates)
