PETALING JAYA : Recently crowned Thailand Open winners Pearly Tan-M Thinaah stamped their authority on the women's doubles event of the Malaysia Masters today after sweeping aside their Indonesian rivals to enter the semi-finals.
In a match that saw everything working out for the Malaysians, world No 9 Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi crumbled to a 14-21, 14-21 defeat in 33 minutes.
The Indonesian pair attempted to make a strong comeback in the second game before bowing out as the Malaysians stormed to victory.
This is the fourth time that the Malaysian pair has defeated the Indonesian duo in their five encounters.
In the semi-finals tomorrow, Pearly-Thinaah – who are aiming to win their first title on home soil – will face China's Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian, currently ranked world No 16. This will be their first meeting in an international tournament.
Last week, the Malaysian duo clinched their fourth World Tour title by winning the Thailand Open.
The doubles champions at the Malaysia Masters will receive US$37,525 (RM159,000), while the runners-up will take home US$18,050 (RM76,542).

The 19th ranked Taiwanese twins had shocked the top seeds by taking the first game, before the Malaysians made a comeback to win 17-21, 21-17, 21-14 at the Istora Stadium in Jakarta tonight. Sze Fei-Izzuddin had to labour for an hour before they sealed the match and booked their berth in the last 16. The Malaysians have faced setback after setback this year, failing to get past the quarter-final stage in various tournaments, including two first-round exits. The duo won three World Tour titles in 2023 and another three in 2024, but have not won a single one this year. Today's tie was Sze Fei-Izzuddin's seventh time facing the Taiwanese pair, with the Malaysians winning six of the encounters. In the last 16, Sze Fei-Izzuddin will take on their world No 22 compatriots Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong, who staged an upset by beating the No 14 ranked Chinese duo of Xie Hao Nan-Zeng Wei Han 21-17, 21-12. In the match held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, the Malaysian professional duo came from a set down, losing the first 17-21, to win the next two sets 21-17, 21-14. Awaiting Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin in the second round this Thursday are compatriots Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong, who successfully defeated China's Xie Hao Nan-Zeng Wei Han 21-12, 21-17. Also advancing to the next round are the 2025 Malaysia Masters champions, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun. The world number seven ranked pair had no trouble, taking just 21 minutes to beat their opponents from the US, Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith 21-6, 21-11 in staright games. 'We feel happy to be back in Istora Senayan. We hope we can do well in this tournament,' said Wei Chong in an audio shared by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to the media.
