Rajiv Gandhi's own loyalists tried to ‘derail and manipulate' assassination investigation: Real-life investigator played by Amit Sial barred any interference
In an old interview with Prasar Bharti, the real-life Karthikeyan spoke about the investigation, and the challenges he faced. He said that he agreed to lead the SIT at great personal risk, because it could have been a no-win situation. Not only did he have to bring the perpetrators to justice, he was also painting a target on his back. He said that not many people wanted the responsibility, but he saw it as a service to the nation, and agreed. Asked what challenged him the most about the investigation, he said that it was the 'disappointing' internal interference.

He said, 'There were many attempts to derail the investigation, to manipulate the investigation. But I made it clear that there would be no political interference. Everyone was interested to know who killed him, but in the process, they also wanted to involve some opponent. It was a big disappointment to see people… I thought everybody would be anxious to find out who killed the most charismatic leader of that time and bring those people to book. But I found that, in the process, even those who claimed to be his loyalists were more interested in trying to fix up those in opposition parties.'
Karthikyen went on to serve as the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and said that he's proud to have gotten convictions in the Gandhi assassination case, because he presented the Courts with hard evidence. Kannada star Vishnuvardhan, who also acted in a few Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi movies, died at age 59 on 30 December 2009. The 'Sahasa Simha' died of a heart attack at the King's Court Hotel in Mysore. His last rites were performed with full state honours at Abhiman Studio in Bengaluru. On Saturday, fans woke up to the shocking news that a structure at his memorial had been razed on Thursday, with fans protesting at the studios on Friday. Vishnuvardhan was a popular actor in South Indian, particularly Kannada cinema. Vishnuvardhan's grave site razed TNIE reported that the land in Abhiman Studios once belonged to the late Kannada actor Balakrishna. However, the current owner reportedly razed the structure at the memorial overnight with permission from the court and under police protection. Film director Ravi Srivathsa, who recorded a video of the demolished structure, was quoted as saying, 'This is my god's (Vishnuvardhan) place, and it has been destroyed. The man who gave jobs and shelter to many has been treated this way.' Balakrishna's daughter Geeta Bali alleged, 'I learnt about it through the media and was shocked. My elder brother, Ganesh, was murdered last year. The person behind his murder is also involved in the demolition. Politicians are also involved.' The memorial at Abhiman Studios included an 8-foot statue of Vishnuvardhan, which is now the bone of contention between the new owners and fans. Despite long-standing demand to preserve the site, the demolition has frustrated fans who called out the government, police, and the Film Chamber. According to a OneIndia report, a new memorial spread across 2.75 acres in Mysuru has been in development since 2020, with plans to showcase Vishnuvardhan's personal belongings. Kichcha Sudeep also condemned the move and wrote in a long note on X, 'Sahasa Simha Vishnuvardhan represents an unending admiration and respect. The night before last, the destruction of his memorial feels as painful and distressing as if a temple of a god we have believed in and revered for years was shattered.' He also added that many, including him, had asked authorities if they needed money to maintain the structure when the case was in the High Court. 'We were ready for everything, I myself said so. Yet, the government didn't pay attention to this, or perhaps, without providing a proper explanation to the court, without burying it in the ground, they said the memorial at the cremation site isn't valid since there's already a memorial in Mysore,' he added. Sudeep also added that he will go to court, if need be, to appeal to the individual who owns the land to preserve at least a small portion of where Vishnuvardhan's memorial once stood. 'I am speaking as a fan of Vishnuvardhan, not as Kichcha. The pain is immense,' wrote Sudeep. The actor also posted a video reiterating the same in a video and questioning the move to demolish the memorial, and reiterating that he will stand up against it. Dhruva Sarja said Vishnuvardhan does not need a memorial to immortalise him, but condemned the manner in which it was razed, writing, 'There is no death for a true achiever, nor for art... Vishnu Appaji is immortal... Why does a person who has built a temple in the hearts of crores of Kannadigas need a memorial? Yet, in this land, such an insult to such an achiever is not right. It causes immense pain to the heart. There are many questions to ask upon hearing this, but as a Kannadiga and an artist, in this moment, I stand honestly with the fans of Vishnu Sir. I am waiting for your next move. Jai Kannadambe, Vishnu Dada is immortal…' Vishnuvardhan's wife, Bharathi, and their two daughters, Keerthi and Chandana, are reportedly yet to comment on the controversy.

Congress and BRS share a protection bond: Bandi Sanjay Kumar
Accusing the BRS and Congress of shielding each other's 'corruption' and 'acts of deception', Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has alleged that the two parties are having a mutual understanding to defend each other from 'wrong-doings' as part of a 'protection bond.' He was speaking to mediapersons in Karimnagar after participating in Raksha Bandhan festivities on Saturday. Mr. Sanjay reiterated his demand for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the phone tapping during the previous BRS rule, saying the scope of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) currently probing the case is very limited. The phone tapping was done under the K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) government in violation of the regulations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority, he said, saying, 'This is entirely a matter under the jurisdiction of the Centre. The accused extorted hundreds of crores of rupees from political leaders, businessmen and film actors through phone tapping, he charged. Where did that money go? he asked, saying finding an answer to that is beyond the capacity of SIT officials. Responding to a query, he said, 'We do have trust in the SIT officials. But we have no trust in the Congress government. In cases like irregularities in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, power purchase agreements and the Formula E Race, and other scams surfaced during the previous BRS rule, the current Congress dispensation in the State is only delaying under the pretext of investigation without taking any action.' He further alleged that the phones of several politicians including the present Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy were also tapped by the previous BRS government. Can the SIT issue a notice to the Chief Minister and summon him for questioning? Mr Sanjay asked. It is imperative to hand over the phone tapping case to the central investigative agencies to complete the investigation quickly without delays, he insisted. Replying to a question, he said, 'The phones of the ministers, MLAs and MLCs were tapped. If BRS MLAs have any self-respect, they should leave that party.' 'BRS MLC Kalvakunta Kavitha should be served notices and questioned in the phone tapping case,' he said in reply to another query. On BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR)'s reported statement to issue a legal notice to him, Mr Sanjay said, 'I am ready to swear before God on phone tapping. Will KTR be ready to accept my challenge?'
