Heartbreaking moment Kyren Lacy's mother bids farewell in song after NFL hopeful's tragic suicide

Daily Mail29-04-2025

Kyren Lacy's mother performed a heartbreaking rendition of 'I Will Always Love You' over the weekend as she said goodbye to her son following his suicide.
Lacy, a former LSU wide receiver and NFL hopeful, took his own life earlier this month after crashing his vehicle during a police chase. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He had been facing felony charges negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle charges stemming from a fatal car crash in December.
And at his funeral over the weekend, Lacy's mother, Kandace Washington, displayed incredible strength as she sang the Dolly Parton song in honor of her son.
Kandace sang for nearly five minutes, while a saxophone also briefly played a couple of minutes in.
The performance came during a ceremony that was attended by the likes of Malik Nabers and Jayden Daniels, who were teammates of the receiver's at LSU.
LSU head coach Brian Kelly was also in attendance.
As seen in a live-stream of the service, Nabers and Daniels both brought framed No. 2 jerseys from their respective NFL teams, the Giants and Commanders, with Lacy's name and number on it.
In another touching moment, Nabers and Daniels could be seen hugging Kandace.
Kelly also referred to Lacy as his 'wing man' in a touching speech.
'I'm gonna miss having my guy next to me, because he was as emotional as I was,' he said.
The funeral came after Lacy's attorney wrote that the football star was completely innocent of the felony charges he was facing.
'I just know in my heart [fellow attorney Matthew Ory] and I was gone (sic) get you outta this situation, I knew you were innocent from day 1 because I was the first person you called while the traffic was being diverted around the wreckage,' Lacy's attorney John M. Allen III wrote on Facebook.
Lacy's funeral was attended by ex-LSU teammates Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers, who brought framed jerseys from their respective NFL teams with Lacy's name on it
'for you internet adult a**holes he never fled the scene nor caused the wreck he was actually 3-4 cars behind the wreck,' Allen added.
Lacy was arrested following a December 17 crash that claimed the life of 78-year-old Herman Hall.
Two days later, Lacy declared for the NFL Draft, only to become the subject of an arrest warrant in Louisiana for allegedly fleeing the scene of that accident.
Lacy's case was set to be heard by a grand jury on April 14, less than 48 hours after he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
On April 12, Lacy allegedly had an argument with a family member and fired a gun into the ground.
He fled the scene, leading officers to search for the Louisiana native. But, when cops identified the car he was driving and attempted a traffic stop, Lacy allegedly led them on a miles-long car chase that ended with another crash, this one in Spring, Texas.
Lacy was found dead in the driver's seat, the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

Ex-NFL player Kelvin Joseph faces charges in Texas crash

June 8 - Former NFL cornerback Kelvin Joseph is facing charges related to the death of a 27-year-old motorcyclist. Police in Richardson, Texas, arrested Joseph early Saturday and charged him with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and felony collision involving personal injury or death after the woman riding the motorcycle, Cody Morris, was killed on U.S. Highway 75 northbound. He was booked into Richardson City jail, and bond was set at $1,000 for the misdemeanor, $25,000 for the felony charge. Police in Richardson responded to the crash just before 5 a.m. on Saturday. Local news station WFAA reported that within an hour, Joseph called police in nearby Plano, Texas, to report he was involved in the crash. Richardson police took him into custody after meeting with him and saw signs that he was intoxicated. This is not the first run-in with trouble for the 25-year-old Joseph, who was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The following spring, he was questioned for potential involvement in a murder that occurred outside a Dallas bar, but was cleared. The Cowboys cut ties with Joseph after 26 games and two seasons, and he went on to appear in seven more games with the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts. He played in nine of 10 regular-season games with the D.C. Defenders of the UFL in 2025. The Defenders will meet the St. Louis Battlehawks in a conference championship game on Sunday. "We are aware of the incident and are gathering information," the Defenders said in a statement to WFAA. "We have no further comment at this time." --Field Level Media

NFL star Ben Cleveland's estranged wife hits back over adultery allegations after he filed for divorce

NFL star Ben Cleveland's estranged wife has adamantly denied his claims that she cheated on him. The Baltimore Ravens lineman filed to divorce Kaitlyn Terrell Cleveland on February 28, submitting the documents in Baldwin County, Georgia. According to TMZ, the 26-year-old filed for divorce from Terrell Cleveland, whom he married in 2022, 'because of adultery.' However, in her response to the court on Thursday, Terrell Cleveland reportedly has insisted that she didn't cheat on the Georgia product. She hit back at the 'knowingly false' claims, alleging that they were 'made in bad faith,' and 'vehemently' denied them. Terrell Cleveland also said that she hoped she and Cleveland could come to an agreement to resolve all 'matters and controversies' surrounding their split. She petitioned the judge to equitably split their assets and award her alimony, should they fail to reach such an agreement. The couple met at the University of Georgia, where Cleveland played guard for the Bulldogs, and got married in 2022. In his filing, Cleveland, who penned a new contract to stay in Baltimore this offseason, claimed that he and Terrell Cleveland separated back in December. Terrell Cleveland previously appeared to indirectly respond to the allegations by sharing song lyrics on her Instagram story from the Kelsea Ballerini song 'Interlude'. The lyrics read: 'The rumors goin' 'round, but the truth is kinda nuanced. I wanna set it straight, but my lawyer says I shouldn't.' She has since set her social media accounts to private. Cleveland's bombshell divorce filing in February came just two weeks after he was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). The 6ft 6ins, 360-pound guard allegedly drove his truck while over the legal limit in Milledgeville, Georgia, on February 12. He was reportedly given two citations - one for DUI and one for failure to maintain lane. It's claimed Cleveland told the officers that pulled him over that he had drunk 'approximately 3-4 beers' at a country club before getting behind the wheel. Cleveland was picked by the Ravens in the third round of the 2021 draft, while Terrell Cleveland is a 'digital creator', according to social media. She previously worked at Red Dress, an online women's clothing store.
