Kaizer Chiefs midfielder fights drug addiction
Born in Kwa Mashu, Durban, 28 years ago, Cele moved to Amakhosi in January to earn his first experience of professional football in Mzansi's Betway Premiership.
The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder says that during December, he discovered his peers had become victims of drug abuse. Cele has since established a programme he calls 'My Brother's Keeper' to rescue addicts.
'Being away, I couldn't do much. Last December, while I was home, I realised I didn't like what was happening in my community,' Cele told FARPost . 'More and more boys were falling into drugs, and I'd look at some of them and say 'you played football and now you're doing drugs…'
New Kaizer Chiefs player signs until 2028
'We started engaging with the gents and recorded some of the sessions. We didn't post. With time, ideas came on how we could send the message across to try and help the gents. I thought, let's sit and speak to each other. The project is about trying to help the community.
The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder added: 'These are gents I grew up with, so it's natural conversations that we have. I appreciate their energy and how they opened up.'
'I am making it my mission to find someone who can come and help us. I have my own idea – maybe someone who has a farm, takes them to work, and they are placed in a rehabilitation facility. There are many things we can do. Those chats are important as a starting point,' Cele added.

Kaizer Chiefs: Full list of new signings and departures
Kaizer Chiefs have made their seventh signing of the season after confirming the arrival of Asanele Velebayi. Amakhosi have been linked with the 22-year-old winger for over a year. Following Cape Town Spurs' relegation to the ABC Motsepe League, the Soweto giants swiftly pounced on landing the player's signature on a free transfer, but the Urban Warriors did not go down without a fight. The Cape side insisted they are entitled to a transfer fee despite their relegation to the third division. It appears, though, that Chiefs might have had the last laugh after all. 'Asanele Velebayi has officially joined Kaizer Chiefs,' Amakhosi said in a statement on Tuesday. 'The Cape Town-born winger has signed a long-term contract, fulfilling his lifelong dream of wearing the Gold & Black colours of Amakhosi.' 'We are happy to finally have Asanele with us,' said Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. 'He is a great addition, and we believe he will add significant value because he is a perfect fit for our game model and the culture we have here at the Club.' Velebayi becomes the seventh signing after Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Flavio Silva and Siphesihle Ndlovu. So far, Chiefs have parted ways with Njabulo Blom, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Sabelo Radebe, Bongani Sam, Edmilson Dove, Edson Castillo, Yusuf Maart, Tebogo Potsane and Ranga Chivaviro Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. KZN rivals clash at familiar turf as Arrows and Bay hunt first win
Siyanda Mthanti Mfundo Thikazi (left) of Richards Bay challenges Siyanda Mthanti of Golden Arrows as the KZN sides resume rivalry in the Betway Premeirship clash at King Zwelithini Stadium. | BackpagePix Golden Arrows and Richards Bay will be desperate to get their Betway Premiership campaigns on track when they collide in a KwaZulu-Natal derby at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday evening. Both sides lost their league openers, leaving them already under pressure to put early points on the board. Arrows were beaten by newly promoted Siwelele FC, while Richards Bay fell to Marumo Gallants. The urgency is shared — neither camp wants to risk an extended winless run this early in the season. For Arrows, the 2025/26 has begun as a season of transition. Head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has assembled a squad brimming with fresh-faced youngsters signed in the off-season. While the energy and enthusiasm are clear, the chemistry is still developing, particularly in attack where their youthful frontline has yet to click. Richards Bay's start has been more bruising. Co-coaches Ronnie Gabriel and Papi Zothwane have overseen back-to-back league defeats, with the 4-0 loss to champions Mamelodi Sundowns two weeks ago leaving wounds that still need healing.
