New York Giants make several changes to scouting department
It's customary for NFL teams to make changes to their scouting staff following the draft, and the New York Giants are no exception.
In early May, the Giants permitted national scout Mike Derice to pursue other opportunities -- a decision that came as a shock to many around the league. Since then, several other changes have occurred.
Isaiah Wingfield, who was hired as a scouting assistant in 2023, has been promoted to Southwest BLESTO scout, per his LinkedIn profile. That change is not currently reflected on the Giants' official website.
At Harvard, Wingfield played defensive back alongside Cade Knox, who serves as the Giants' offensive assistant and game manager.
In addition to Wingfield's promotion, the Giants have also hired Drew House as a scouting assistant. He previously served as the director of college scouting and assistant director of player personnel at Oregon. He also had two stints as a football operations intern with the Buffalo Bills.
Finally, the Giants are expected to hire Ole Miss assistant director of player personnel Tommy Pernetti as a scouting assistant, reports Matt Zenits of CBS Sports.
Pernetti has also served as a player personnel assistant at both Texas and Miami.

Ramos hits tying double in seventh then Lee follows with sacrifice fly, Giants beat Padres 6-5
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Heliot Ramos hit a tying two-run double in the seventh then Jung Hoo Lee followed with a sacrifice fly that put San Francisco ahead, and the Giants rallied to beat the San Diego Padres 6-5 on Wednesday night. San Francisco ended a stretch of 16 straight games scoring four or fewer runs. Gavin Sheets hit a two-run triple in the first then singled in two more runs in the fifth for San Diego, which had a pair of 10-inning wins to start the four-game series. Fernando Tatis Jr. singled to start the ninth against Ryan Walker then right fielder Daniel Johnson ran down Luis Arráez's fly to save an extra-base hit. Manny Machado followed with a single and Randy Rodríguez relieved and recorded the final two outs for his first career save. Matt Chapman hit a two-run homer in the sixth off right-hander Nick Pivetta, who struck out five over six innings and was tagged for five runs on six hits. Pivetta gave way to Jason Adam (5-2) after walking Willy Adames to start the seventh then allowing Daniel Johnson's single. After Patrick Bailey struck out, Tyler Fitzgerald singled to load the bases for Ramos. Sean Hjelle (1-0) pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief for the win in his season debut after being recalled from the minors Tuesday. Key moment Sheets' second hit chased Giants lefty Kyle Harrison, who was then checked by an athletic trainer in the dugout. He had been expected to make at least one more start before Justin Verlander returns from the injured list and rejoins the rotation. Key stat The Giants' 16 consecutive games with four or fewer runs ranked as their second longest single-season streak since moving to San Francisco in 1958. They did so in 19 straight games in 1965. Up next RHP Dylan Cease (1-4, 4.66 ERA) pitches the series finale for San Diego opposite Giants LHP Robbie Ray (7-1, 2.43). ___ AP MLB:

Giants Announce Unfortunate Justin Verlander News After Loss to Royals
The San Francisco Giants fell to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday afternoon. Now 29-21 on the season, San Francisco is 1.5 games back of the first place Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. One of the more disappointing developments for the Giants this season has been Justin Verlander's performance. The three-time Cy Young Award winner signed a one-year, $15 million deal with San Francisco this offseason, but is 0-3 with a 4.33 ERA through his first 10 starts. Advertisement Now 42 years old, Verlander is MLB's active leader in strikeouts. On Wednesday, the Giants announced some unfortunate news on the 2011 AL MVP. San Francisco Giants pitcher Justin Verlander (35)© Bob Kupbens-Imagn Images Going just four innings in his last outing, which came against the Athletics on Sunday, Verlander struggled with his command. The nine-time All-Star walked five batters in his four innings of work. It turns out Verlander was dealing with pec discomfort in his last outing. The Giants announced via manager Bob Melvin that he will be making a trip to the injured list. "Justin Verlander will go on IL with the pec discomfort that bothered him in last start," Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area posted after Melvin spoke with reporters. "He felt okay playing catch, but wasn't quite ready to start Saturday. Giants are confident he'll be 100 percent after missing two starts. They're TBD for that rotation spot." While Verlander has struggled this season, a trip to the IL is still unfortunate news for a Giants team hoping to get him on track. In the middle of a competitive division race, San Francisco could certainly use a stretch from Verlander similar to what he produced in 2023.
