A NEW series of crime drama Peaky Blinders is due to start filming this summer — set in the 1950s.
BBC bosses want the episodes ready to air next year to capitalise on a renewed wave of interest expected after the release of a Peaky Blinders feature film later this year.

Series six saw the characters in the 1930s, while the upcoming film — titled The Immortal Man — is set during the Second World War.
The new series is likely to move the Birmingham gangsters into the Fifties — an era known for violent mobs of Teddy Boys and the rise of notorious London villains, the Kray twins.
A TV insider yesterday said: 'The sixth series of Peaky Blinders was supposed to be the last and the movie was meant to be the final farewell for the story.
'But show boss Steven Knight couldn't resist coming back to the story — his most famous creation — and he's been dropping hints he wanted to return to do more.
'But the fact that it's been officially green-lit by the Beeb and wheels are in motion on pre- production will be a huge thrill to fans of the show, which was a huge hit for the BBC.'
Cast and crew are expected to start filming in September.
The new series will air on BBC One in the UK but be distributed internationally by streaming giant Netflix — also behind the film.
Peaky Blinders ran from 2013 to 2022, with the action starting in 1919 and taking in the 1920s and 1930s.
Cillian Murphy, who appears in the new film, could return as crime boss Thomas Shelby but as a 'father figure' to younger gang members.
It would be a similar role to that of his aunt Polly Gray, played by the late Helen McCrory.
Barry Keoghan Joins Peaky Blinders Movie!
After the end of the TV series, writer Stephen dropped multiple hints of a return.
Discussing the upcoming film recently, he said: 'The world of 'Peaky' will continue.'
The BBC has declined to comment.

Meghan Markle's silence questioned as Prince Harry leaves secret letter at royal event
Meghan has kept quiet while Harry has made attempts to heal the Royal rift in recent weeks. Prince Harry is making a concerted effort to mend fences with the Royal Family. But Meghan Markle has remained conspicuously silent following her husband's latest peace offering. Earlier this week it was revealed the Duke of Sussex discreetly left a secret letter at a royal event attended by King Charles and Queen Camilla. He reportedly asked a friend to subtly leave a note and a wreath of red poppies at the Burma Star Memorial, in honour of the national VJ Day commemorations. The letter was placed after Charles and Camilla had departed to avoid detracting from the service, which paid tribute to the sacrifice of Second World War heroes who fought and died in the Pacific and Far East. However, Meghan did not sign the letter. And this isn't the first time she's maintained her silence in recent weeks, as experts have pondered why she hasn't voiced support for her husband amidst a 'devastating' boardroom dispute. Earlier this year, the Duke stepped down from Sentebale, the charity he established to assist children orphaned by Aids in Lesotho, following a tense confrontation with the chairwoman, Dr Sophie Chandauka, reports the Mirror. Harry was reportedly devastated by the disagreement, which resulted in all parties being reprimanded by the Charity Commission for allowing the dispute to become so public. Many anticipated Meghan would publicly support Harry. However, her continued silence has raised eyebrows amongst royal observers. In her latest Instagram post, Meghan chose to sidestep the ongoing controversy. The Duchess, 44, shared a video on Tuesday of herself preparing and serving a lemon pasta spaghetti dish. Prior to this, she promoted the upcoming second series of With Love Meghan. Royal expert Dr Tessa Dunlop said: "Now that Meghan and Harry have signed a new Netflix deal ('looser' and apparently less lucrative than the previous $78m one but a deal nonetheless), might the Duchess find her voice? "Not the one she volubly uses to hawk As Ever wares (in conjunction with Netflix) but rather the voice Meghan famously re-found after leaving the Royal Family, the one that talked her truth to Royal power and surely could talk her truth to the Sentebale fiasco? "No, really, why hasn't Meghan come out batting for Prince Harry in his latest round of verbal fisty-cuffs concerning his former African charity? "After all, the Duke has consistently spoken out in support of his wife, establishing the precedent early on and against the wishes of his family when he condemned Britain's media coverage and insisted he had never before witnessed such a 'degree of pressure, scrutiny and harassment' from the press." She added: "As it currently stands, Harry cuts a lonely figure. The Charity Commission 'identified a 'strong perception of ill treatment' swirling in the unhappy waters of his former charity, Sentebale. "It was a terse ruling that exonerated no one; all parties remain incandescent, particularly the aggrieved prince, who insists the report has fallen 'troublingly short'. "In other words, the Duke of Sussex's nemesis, Dr Sophie Chanduka, is still at large, running Harry's former beloved Sentebale. The Duke could really do with some public TLC, especially from his wife, whose own issues with said Dr Chanduka were allegedly caught on camera at a polo match Sentebale fundraiser." This follows the confirmation by Harry and Meghan that they have extended their deal with Netflix, having signed a new "multi-year, first look deal for film and television projects". While the duchess was quick to celebrate the signing, experts claimed that the deal is a downgrade for the couple. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! BBC Antiques Roadshow guest left speechless at huge value of famous football photo
The Antiques Roadshow expert was left stunned by a guest's iconic photograph of Vinnie Jones during a 1988 Wimbledon vs Newcastle United match. A former guest on the Antiques Roadshow joked that he would have booked Vinnie Jones for "ungentlemanly conduct" after unveiling a unique football photograph. The BBC show was filming at Wollaton Hall with Raj Bisram when a member of the public brought a signed black and white photo of the football star when he played for Wimbledon. The image featured Vinnie grabbing the testicles of Newcastle United legend Paul Gascoigne during a 1988 match. "What an iconic photograph you've brought in," exclaimed expert Raj. The guest revealed on the BBC show: "I was the referee at that match. It was on my birthday, funnily enough. "And it was a first division match between Wimbledon and Newcastle United." He then confessed: "I have to admit, I did not see that incident." Bisram asked: "I mean, if you had seen that incident, obviously, you would have booked Vinnie Jones? For what?". The guest laughed and responded: "Well I suppose it would be for ungentlemanly conduct." He continued: "Monty Fresco of the Daily Mirror took that fantastic photograph. When I retired from work, my colleagues, unbeknown to me, got Jones and Gascoigne to sign it for me." In the left-hand corner, Jones simply wrote to the guest "Be good", while Gascoigne humorously wrote: "Thanks to you, I have lost my family allowance." Concluding the valuation, Bisram disclosed: "I guess if you were to put this on the market today, I would be estimating it would be for between £1,000 and £3,000." The guest was left speechless at the sum, as his jaw dropped at the eye-watering amount and he bit on his lip eagerly. Bisram continued: "I mean, it could go anywhere because it's a one-off. This is one of the most famous photographs of football in history. Thanks for bringing it in." Elsewhere recently on the show, an expert was thrilled by a "unique moment" as he disclosed the remarkable value of a family heirloom. BBC valuer Mark Smith was at Portchester Castle earlier this month when he met a couple curious about the significance of a grandfather's esteemed decorations. "This is a unique moment on the Antiques Roadshow," the expert declared. The expert continued: "In all the years I've been on the roadshow, we have never had a Victoria Cross. The highest award for gallantry this country has. Who was this man?". The husband shared: "This was my wife's grandfather. Unfortunately, I wasn't privileged enough to meet him but my wife knew him when she was a young child". The expert disclosed that the medals were estimated at an astonishing £250,000 to £300,000. Both were visibly shocked before dissolving into laughter, with her whispering: "Golly. I didn't think it would be that much", the gentleman admitted, to which Smith replied: "Easily." The visitor joked: "I need a stiff cup of coffee." His wife commented: "I'm a bit like my husband - shocked. I didn't expect that at all." The husband stated his intention to return the medals to the bank for safekeeping in their security deposit box. "I think that's probably wise. That day, he deserved that," Smith concluded.

Popular BBC presenter QUITS after a whopping 29 years with broadcaster - admitting 'I don't know what comes next' as they're flooded with support from fans
Investigative journalist Tony Smith has announced that he is leaving the BBC after working with the broadcaster for three decades. The TV personality announced his departure on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, admitting to his followers that now feels like the right time to leave and 'try something new'. Sharing a snap of himself holding a camera at sunset, Tony shared: 'Heading off into the sunset. Some personal news. After 29 years, today is my last day at BBC News. 'It's been amazing but the offer of redundancy was too good to turn down - and it felt like a good time to try something new. Not sure what comes next - watch this space.' Following his announcement, fans flocked to the comment section to wish the star well on his future endeavours. One user wrote: 'Sorry to hear that, but I expect you will have fun on the other side!' Another stated: 'All the very best Tony for whatever comes next.' While someone else added: 'All the very best Tony, have a ball!' In 1997, Tony began his career at the BBC as a journalist working for the news channel. In his first decade with the broadcaster, he reported from places all around the world, including Asia, Africa, and The Americas. He also took home the prestigious Home News Award at the Royal Television Society for his story on racism in Northern Ireland. Tony also covered huge global events such as Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic following his promotion to Senior Broadcast Journalist in 2010. Tony is following in the footsteps of Jordan North, Clara Amfo, and news presenter Mishal Husain, who all departed the corporation last year. In February last year, Jordan, 35, stepped down from his Radio 1 show after a decade to reportedly replace Roman Kemp as the Capital Breakfast host. Following Jordan's huge announcement, it was revealed at the time that Jamie Laing, 35, would take his place - Monday to Thursday, 3.30pm to 6pm - next to radio co-host Vick Hope. Thankful for all the support from his listeners, Jordan – who also hosts the Help I Sexted My Boss podcast – took to Instagram to thank his 834,000 followers for their positive reaction. Sharing an album of throwback snaps of his time at the station, Jordan captioned his update: 'Hello everyone. 'I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all my wonderful colleagues / talented producers at Radio 1 who many I consider to be friends for life and will miss greatly, you've all reached out to me over the past 24 hours and it really has meant a lot. 'To my amazing fellow presenters I wish I could thank you all personally, I've loved working with you it's been an absolute blast! Big love to Katie Thisleton, Greg James, Arielle Free, Ricky, Melvin & Charlie, Dean & Vicky, Clara Amfo, Matt & Molly, Scott Mills, Grimmy, all the rest of you fantastic lot, and of course my partner in crime Vick Hope…I'll miss being on air with you every day. 'MOST IMPORTANTLY the biggest of thank yous to the fantastic listeners who have been really generous and always made me feel welcome, your kind words & messages have been so lovely, THANK YOU SO MUCH. Thankful for all the support from his listeners, Jordan – who also hosts the Help I Sexted My Boss podcast – took to Instagram to thank his 834,000 followers for their positive reaction 'I'll be back soon, and can't wait to see you all again.' But not all fans were left happy after the announcement, as some fled to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their upset. One penned: 'Why do the good ones always leave?' 'Really hope this was your decision @jordannorth1 and that it means bigger things for you - we love you and will miss you v much xx.' He now co-hosts the Capital Breakfast show on Capital FM alongside Chris Stark and Sian Welby.
