Channel 5's All Creatures Great and Small continues to be a hit with Nicholas Ralph once again reprising his role as James Herriot alongside his co-stars
All Creatures Great and Small has made a triumphant comeback to Channel 5, with James Herriot (brought to life by Nicholas Ralph) at Skeldale House alongside Helen (depicted by Rachel Shenton). The formidable Mrs Hall, masterfully portrayed by Anna Madeley, remains at the helm of the veterinary surgery.

Anna Madeley, whom audiences might recall from Deadwater Fell, The Royal, and Consent, launched her acting career via television but has garnered equal acclaim for her work with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Though not raised in a theatrical household - her parents were both academics in the sciences - Madeley has consistently felt their steadfast encouragement. She's certainly no stranger to rolling up her sleeves, having revealed to Virgin Islands Daily News: "I've worked in a pub. I worked for a very popular video shop chain, no longer existing. I did market research, worked at Harrods for a few days selling perfume."

Away from the cameras, Anna is a dedicated mum to two children and shares a romantic relationship with fellow performer Geoffrey Streatfeild, recognised for his roles in The Other Boleyn Girl and Kinky Boots.
The All Creatures star has openly admitted that collaborating with her partner doesn't always run smoothly, noting: "It's one of those things: You either have someone who really understands your industry and gets it - but then you've got the double whammy of those insecurities."

The 48 year old London-born actress revealed her thoughts on juggling an acting career with stable family life, observing: "And it can be quite hard if one of you has a permanent, regular job in a particular place, and one of you needs to be able to come and go and do different things. I think it's hard whichever way 'round."
Finding the right balance between work and child-rearing proved a steep learning experience for her, highlighting the crucial need for harmony between professional aspirations and personal responsibilities.

She discussed the unpredictable nature of an actor's timetable, which faces constant upheaval as performers immerse themselves in fresh roles, memorise their dialogue, and adapt to different working patterns.
The shift into motherhood certainly demanded significant changes from such a fast-paced lifestyle.
What many people might not realise is that she initially followed her parents' scholarly footsteps, having earned a doctorate in neuroscience.
Stepping away from television at 19, she focused on academic studies and became mother to two boys; afterwards, she dedicated roughly five years to teaching neuroscience before returning to her acting dreams.
Geoffrey, her present partner, had ended his former marriage to Nikki Amuka-Bird in 2010 before beginning fresh with the actress famed for her All Creatures role.

The presenter was seen leaning on his companion's shoulder after enjoying drinks together. ‌ Phillip, 63, who resigned from ITV in 2023, was seen out in central London just days ago. Photos released this week show him wearing a blue top, navy shorts and blue footwear whilst enjoying summer in the city just a few days ago. ‌ His companion, whose identity isn't yet known, instead opted for a black shirt, beige shorts and dark footwear. The pair are seen with their arms around each other as they walked through the area together. ‌ Phillip hasn't been in the spotlight much since resigning from ITV in 2023. He apologised at the time for having previously lied about the situation. In his statement announcing his resignation, former Dancing on Ice host Phillip also stated that the "consensual on-off relationship" was "now over". Lisa Riley had the ‘most wonderful' time recording new show away from Emmerdale

Emmerdale's Lisa Riley has been very busy recently recording a new show. The star has played the role of Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap on and off since 1995. The character is the wife of Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and mum to Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson). Mandy works at the local salon, and is often seen in the middle of typical Dingle family drama. Just like her soap alter-ego, Lisa lives a very busy life. Recently, she took to Instagram to confirm that she's been quite busy with a project away from the soap. The picture Lisa shared on her feed sees her wearing headphones and smiling into the camera next to a microphone. She confirmed in the caption that she's been recording the voice over for a Channel 5 show. Lisa wrote: 'After a busy morning @emmerdale I have had the most wonderful afternoon in the recording booth @theotherplanetmedia with the lovely @maddiknibbs voicing the upcoming new series @boomcymru 'SKIN A&E' look out for when it's coming to @channel5_tv.' The star has narrated the series for quite a while now. Channel 5 has so far aired six seasons of Skin A&E, which follows a group of dermatologists who work hard on saving our skin through life-changing operations and treatments. Over in Emmerdale, Mandy and Paddy are currently getting to know young Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle). The teenager, who is friends with April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) returned to the village a few days ago, and was allowed to stay the night at Tenants once Paddy realised he was sleeping rough. While Mandy and Paddy make an effort to look after Dylan, they remain unaware that he is working for a drug dealer called Ray Walters (Joe Absolom). Mandy also doesn't know at the moment that her son Vinny is going through a confusing time, as he tries to address his sexuality and work out who he really is. Vinny has been left overwhelmed after almost kissing his friend Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah). He has tried to pretend there wasn't something to address, but Vinny's feelings towards his pal have been too difficult to ignore. The rest of this article contains spoilers from tonight's episode of Emmerdale. In the instalment of the ITV soap that airs this evening, but is now available on ITVX, Vinny invites Mike over, who he met on an LGBTQI+ forum. Vinny was comfortable around Mike, because he was led to believe they were both in similar boats. Sadly though, Mike's true side was revealed – and his aim was not to help Vinny come to terms with his sexuality. At Vinny's house, Mike started to suggest that Vinny fancies him. He denied this and was confused, but Mike reckoned that Vinny had invited him over because he wanted them to sleep together. It was at this point Vinny started to realise that the man he had told some very private thoughts to was a completely different person in reality. He tried to run out of the house in fear, but Mike stopped him from leaving. The next time we saw Vinny he was getting brutally attacked by Mike. He was laying on the floor in tears, curled up and shaking, a shell of the man we've grown to love. Mike wanted money from Vinny, but he also spied the wedding rings on the side and was very interested in them. As the episode drew to a close, Vinny looked at himself in the mirror as he tried to come to terms with what had just happened. We then flashbacked to a few years ago, when Vinny's biological father Paul (Reece Dinsdale) would physically abuse him if he tried to stand up to his dad. Vinny stood in the house all alone in tears. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? The latest gossip from Emmerdale? Given the state of the house, Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) will more than likely discover what happened to some extent, but whether Vinny says what really happened remains to be seen. The tragic true story behind All Creatures Great and Small's Siegfried Farnon

The tragic true story behind All Creatures Great and Small's Siegfried Farnon All Creatures Great and Small viewers have been charmed by Siegfried Farnon, the eccentric boss of Skeldale House Veterinary Practice - but what was the real story behind the character? Siegfried Farnon played by Samuel West (Image: CHANNEL 5) Siegfried Farnon, the eccentric owner of Skeldale House veterinary practice, is a standout character in Channel 5's adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small, which has recently arrived on Netflix. The heartwarming family drama's first series is now available for streaming, drawing from the cherished books by Yorkshire vet Alf Wight, who penned his rural vet adventures under the pseudonym James Herriot. ‌ The vibrant characters that fill the pages of the All Creatures books and their television adaptations are based on real-life figures, including Siegfried, who was modelled after Alf's actual boss, Donald Sinclair. Samuel West, who portrays Siegfried on screen, discussed how the series depicts his character and whether it aligns with Donald Sinclair's true experiences. West expressed contentment with the portrayal when asked about the inclusion of his character's history with his late wife. ‌ For those intrigued about the true story behind Siegfried Farnon, here's what happened to him, including aspects of his personal life. ‌ Donald Sinclair on crutches with Alf Wight and Donald's brother Brian (Image: (Image: PETER WRIGHT)) Donald Sinclair took over his veterinary practice in 1939, but wartime duties called him away to serve in the Royal Air Force the following year. Alf Wight was brought in to manage the practice during Donald's absence, but due to lying about his age, Donald was soon asked to hang up his RAF uniform and return to veterinary work. ‌ The Irish Times reports that Donald Sinclair maintained a complicated relationship with how he was depicted in Alf's written works, calling it a "genuine challenge" to their friendship. Robert Hardy, renowned for playing Siegfried in the original BBC adaptation, encountered the actual Donald Sinclair and observed that he appeared completely unaware of his own peculiarities. Donald Sinclair passed away at his residence in 1995, merely a fortnight following the death of his spouse Audrey, with whom he had shared more than fifty years. ‌ Actor Samuel, speaking about his role to Masterpiece, revealed: "In the original books, Siegfried is a bachelor, but I was very pleased that they decided to go with what happened to the real Donald Sinclair, which was that his wife had died." Samuel West plays Siegfried Farnon in the Channel 5 drama (Image: (Image: CHANNEL 5)) He felt this enhancement brought greater substance, explaining: "I thought that was a proper piece of homework that made it much more interesting, for Siegfried to have that history, that backstory." ‌ He discovered complexity in portraying a character who was both a former charmer and someone who had experienced a fulfilling marriage, as he put it: "It's much more interesting to play somebody who was quite a beau in his youth, but had a deeply loving, and I think sexually very happy, relationship with his wife, which then ended without children." Samuel depicted Siegfried as a man tormented by memories of past love: "He's felt a bit blocked ever since. He's still in love with his wife, and she's only four years dead. None of that really appears in the series- I'm talking about two things that happened four years, or 19 years, before the series begins- but it is all underneath." He emphasised the significance of delivering genuine depth and complexity to his character beyond just the storylines: "It's not a Chekov play, but actually it becomes important; it's got to be believable. It's got to be textured on the same level. It's got to matter." Article continues below All Creatures Great and Small airs on My5
