After Mrunal Thakur, Kareena Kapoor Faces Backlash For 'Mean' Remarks On Hrithik, Salman
Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan is facing social media backlash after old interviews resurfaced online, portraying her as outspoken and allegedly throwing shade at fellow actors. The controversies follow a similar incident involving actress Mrunal Thakur, whose past comments about Bipasha Basu went viral recently, forcing her to issue an apology.
The viral Reddit thread shared snippets of Kareena's past remarks, labeling her as a 'mean girl" and drawing criticism from netizens. In one old interview, Kareena reportedly criticised filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, calling him a 'confused director" with no morals or principles after losing the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Devdas to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
In other interviews, Kareena questioned the historical box-office success of Sridevi and commented on Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), Hrithik Roshan's debut film. She claimed that filmmaker Rakesh Roshan prioritised his son over co-star Ameesha Patel, pointing out the latter's skin imperfections. Kareena had originally been considered for the film but eventually walked out.
The actress also reportedly called Salman Khan a 'bad actor" and made a controversial remark that 'being fat is not sexy." These statements have resurfaced on social media, drawing a flurry of reactions from netizens.
Netizens React With Memes And Trolling
Social media users have been quick to troll Kareena Kapoor for her unfiltered remarks. One user called her 'Pooh in real life," while another added, 'Her fans pass her mean behaviour as 'sassy' and call her real-life 'Poo' as if it's an achievement." Others noted that while Kareena's comments were unfiltered and bold, celebrities today are scrutinised much more heavily on social media.
Some internet users appreciated the honesty in her interviews, saying she gave magazine readers 'their money's worth," while others criticised her for lacking diplomacy and respect for co-stars. Many comments expressed that her outspoken nature was iconic for its time but questioned the impact of her words on her public image today.
Despite the trolling, Kareena Kapoor remains one of Bollywood's most influential and iconic stars, known for her confidence, style, and career spanning over two decades. The resurfacing of these old clips shows the fine line celebrities walk between candid interviews and public perception in the age of social media.

Will fully cooperate for release of The Devil: Actor Darshan
Agency: PTI Bengaluru, Aug 16 (PTI) Kannada actor Darshan on Saturday said he would 'fully cooperate" for the release of his film 'The Devil'. He also expressed confidence that his 'celebrities" — as he calls his fans — will also stand by his decision. The message was conveyed through his wife Vijayalakshmi's Instagram account. Directed by Prakash Veer, the first song of the film was supposed to have been released on August 15. But with the Supreme Court cancelling his bail, Darshan was taken into custody a day before, on August 14. Following which, the plans for the film were reportedly put on hold. However, Darshan said his first duty is to support the directors who believed in him and the producers who have invested crores of money in him. 'So, I hope that all the work of my film 'The Devil' will proceed without any hindrance. I hereby inform you that you (makers of the film) have my full cooperation. And I firmly believe that my celebrities (fans) will consent to this," Darshan is quoted as saying in his wife's Instagram post. Darshan had wrapped up the film in July. The reshooting of the film started in February after the actor was released on regular bail. 'Cinema is an entertainment medium and should be viewed only from the perspective of entertainment," the actor said further through his wife's post. Darshan was arrested on June 11, 2024, in connection with Renukaswamy murder case. Darshan was granted interim bail on medical grounds after he claimed back pain. He was then granted regular bail by the Karnataka High Court in mid-December. PTI JR ROH view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
