Reclusive Ellen DeGeneres shares rare glimpse at new life after being forced out of $450 million career
After seemingly cutting one of her final ties in the United States, selling one of her final houses, Ellen DeGeneres is sharing a brief glimpse at her new life in the British countryside after leaving her $450 million career behind.
The 67-year-old comedienne took to Instagram on Monday to share a snap of her wife Portia de Rossi, 52, taking a picture of a rainbow.
'3 things that make me happy: My Wife A Rainbow And my wife taking a photograph of a Rainbow,' Ellen said in the caption of her post to her 136 million followers.
She has rarely shared a glimpse at herself in recent weeks, populating her social media feed with old clips from her syndicated daily talk show that ended in 2022.
Ellen shared an ad she filmed for her Kind Science brand's new skin hydration cream last week, though the last glimpse of herself was back in March, when she was on safari somewhere in Africa.
The couple relocated from the exclusive celebrity enclave in Montecito, California to the Cotswolds area of the U.K., reportedly due to the election of Donald Trump.
DeGeneres was first rocked by scandal in 2020, when a Buzzfeed report detailed her executive producers engaging in harassment and creating a toxic work environment.
While she apologized for the controversy and vowed to take steps to change the show's culture, the show ultimately came to a close at the end of her contract in the 2021-2022 season.
Last year, she said in a stand-up performance in Santa Rosa, California that she was planning on leaving show business entirely after her Netflix special was out.
'This is the last time you're going to see me. After my Netflix special, I 'm done,' Ellen told the crowd last summer.
'Let me catch you up on what's been going on with me since you last saw me. I got chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean,' she said.
During her stand-up set, she also, 'admitted to being harsh and said she was a very immature boss.'
'I used to say, "I don't care what people say about me." Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity,' she said during the stand-up show.
Her Netflix special Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval - which she was paid a whopping $20 million for - was filmed at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis in August 2024 and debuted on the streaming service one month later.
Her new life in the U.K. didn't get off to a great start, when she upset her heiress neighbor in the Cotswolds when trying to build an extension onto her farm house.
The former talk show host reportedly committed a 'technical breach' according to heiress Rosie Pearson, the youngest of the late Viscount Cowdray's six offspring.
Pearson believes the work Ellen wants to do may 'disturb Roman remains' which lead to Pearson contacting local planning authorities.
Just a month later, it was reported that Ellen and Portia may have been considering leaving their £15 million historic farmhouse after it was surrounded by local floodwater.
'Ellen and Portia have had several issues with the place they initially moved into. First there was the flooding, of course, then there was an issue with some locals complaining about some building work carried out at the property,' a source told Mail Online.

White Lotus star Walton Goggins reveals why he unfollowed Aimee Lou Wood on Instagram
Walton Goggins has addressed the rumors of a feud with his White Lotus co-star Aimee Lou Wood, explaining why he unfollowed her on Instagram. In season three of the acclaimed HBO comedy drama, the Fallout actor played Rick, the love interest of Wood's character Chelsea. In a new joint interview with Variety , Goggins said he unfollowed Wood after filming as a way of seeking closure after the emotional exertion of making the show. He compared the experience to leaving his role on another show, saying: 'When I left Justified , I went up to Tim [Olyphant], and I hugged him and I said, 'I love you, and I hope I see you in rooms for the rest of my life.' I didn't talk to him for almost two years. I've done that with every single thing that I've done.' He added that The White Lotus experience was particularly difficult because it brought back memories of his own travels to Thailand after his first wife, Leanne Knight, died by suicide in 2004. Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood as Rick and Chelsea in 'The White Lotus' (HBO) 'My catharsis in this experience was different than other people's, because of my history in this place. I knew what we had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea,' said Goggins, who reportedly started to cry. 'And I knew that that was going to take a while for me, so I let her know, this is what I've gotta do. And she was extremely supportive about that.' He continued: 'I needed to just back away from everyone. I haven't spoken to anyone. I couldn't handle it. Judge me or don't. I don't give a f*** what you think. This is my process. Rick means everything to me, and Chelsea means everything to me. And so that's what I needed to do for me to process all of this.' Goggins began following Wood on Instagram again during the interview, saying: 'You know what? I'll follow you right now!' The actor also addressed a controversial interview he gave to The Times . The article insinuated that Goggins had angrily shut down questions about his supposed feud with Wood. 'There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me,' Goggins told Variety . 'This is Goldie Hawn. This is Meg Ryan. She can do anything, and she will.' He said he didn't want to discuss his relationship with Wood with The Times without her present, and was also offended by a question that he said compared Goggins' teeth to Wood's and asked if they'd bonded over that. 'What he was insinuating, it was so disgusting. It was so appalling. I was flabbergasted. And I said, 'F*** mate, wow. I think we're done here,'' said Goggins.

Adolescence star Owen Cooper makes blunt jibe about 'terrible' US icons
Owen Cooper, the 15-year-old who was lauded for his leading role in Netflix drama Adolescence, appeared on The Tonight Show on Tuesday - and shocked Jimmy Fallon Adolescence actor Owen Cooper branded the US's sweets and chocolates as "just terrible" this week. Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the young star slated the confectionery and even brought a basket of US treats in a bid to prove his point. Owen, 15, said: "One thing I hate about America - the chocolate and the sweets, everything is just terrible. It's just Cheetos and all that nonsense. Honestly, I hate it." Jimmy had asked the teenager what he didn't like about America as Owen has spent some time there promoting the Netflix drama, a second series of which is currently in talks. After his honest jibe, Owen lifted the basket to show the host his favourite sweets, which include Maltesers. They were first sold in the UK in 1937. "Have you ever had a Malteser? Right - I'll bring the whole basket up. So this is what I brought [Monster Munch, Maltesers and Fruit Pastilles]", Owen said in the interview on NBC. The teen, from Warrington, Cheshire, insisted the brands were better than most American sweets. However, the US has a long history of making iconic confectionery labels, a market there valued at $83.54 billion (£60 billion) in 2024. In the late 19th century, sweets were made by hand in small batches and sold in local shops across the US. Then, the Hershey Chocolate Company - launched in 1894 - introduced the world to the first mass-produced milk chocolate bar. Following the Second World War, confectionery was frequently imported to the UK and elsewhere. But Owen's view is mirrored by his fans online, who left messages on social media. One posted: "Maltesers, Minstrels and beef Minichips are the perfect cinema snacks. Heaven. Can't get anything remotely close in the US." Another, seemingly an American, shared: "He's absolutely correct. The candy, chips etc over here are atrocious. Garbage compared to Europe's." A third said: "He is spot on actually." Later in the interview, Owen also revealed the huge Hollywood star that has praised his work recently. The actor said Leonardo DiCaprio left him a video message when he was with his onscreen dad Stephen Graham. Owen said: "Stephen Graham sent me a video yesterday and it's Leonardo DiCaprio sat next to him and he was saying 'Hey Owen, I'm such a big fan of Adolescence.'... I was like 'What!'" Owen was widely praised for his leading role in the Netflix drama, but he had no huge acting experience prior to the gig. Instead, one of his big interests growing up was music, so much so he was nicknamed "my mini Harry Styles" by mum Noreen, who is a carer. Neighbours in the Warrington suburb stress the family are keen to remain modest. Owen, who enjoys playing football for his youth side, lives with Noreen, 44-year-old dad Andy, who works in IT, and older brother Ollie. Ollie and Owen have older half-brother Connor, who, like Ollie, is an electrician.

Clarkson's Farm series 4 finale unmasks Farmer's Dog issues
The last two episodes of series four, which will be uploaded to Prime Video on June 6, will show Clarkson's preparations for the pub's opening as he receives help from his co-star Kaleb Cooper. Series 4 of Clarkson's Farm. Who do we like most? Endgame? Or Richard Ham? — Jeremy Clarkson (@JeremyClarkson) May 30, 2025 In episode seven, titled Hurrying, Clarkson, 65, realises that the August bank holiday weekend, which is when he is due to open the pub, is a week earlier than he thought. In the next episode, titled Landlording, last-minute problems are spotted and sorted as Clarkson and Cooper hang up the pub's sign, signalling that the establishment is open for business. Photos from the series show Clarkson hanging foliage in the pub with another image showing a long queue of customers outside the venue. The pub, formerly known as The Windmill, is located in Asthall, near Burford in Oxfordshire, and was reopened by Clarkson on August 23 2024. Clarkson sells his own Hawkstone lager in the venue and wanted to have all of the produce sold there grown or reared by British farmers. In a post to the pub's website, he said that ingredients like quinine in tonic water cannot be grown in Britain but emphasised that they are 'doing all we possibly can to support British farming'. Recommended reading: The new series has seen Clarkson dealing with a range of livestock – from a big new bull and a very little pig, to high-tech goats. The programme, which first aired in 2021, brings to light problems which British farmers face and the costs of running a farm. Clarkson has become a vocal supporter of farmers and attended a protest in London against the Government's move to introduce inheritance tax on farmland in November 2024.
