Chandrababu Naidu Champions Recycling and Green Initiatives on World Environment Day
In a significant move to enhance environmental sustainability, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has directed top officials to formulate a special policy on recycling. This announcement came during a sapling planting event held on June 5th, in Ananthavaram village, as part of World Environment Day celebrations. The Chief Minister, alongside Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, actively participated in the initiative by planting saplings in the Amaravati region.
During the event, CM Naidu emphasised the importance of inter-departmental coordination to effectively implement recycling efforts. He also highlighted the need to consider suggestions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enhance the green cover in Amaravati, instructing officials to focus on developing Miyawaki gardens—a dense planting method inspired by practices in Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and the United States.
The Chief Minister has mandated that a comprehensive report on the recycling policy be submitted every 15 days, in collaboration with the Panchayati Raj, Urban Development, Pollution Control Board, and other relevant departments. Additionally, he called for the establishment of exhibitions on recycling across three areas, along with awareness campaigns for college students utilizing mobile units.
At the event, CM Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan explored stalls set up by the Pollution Control Board that highlighted various aspects of environmental protection. The occasion was also attended by Minister Narayana and several other ministers and senior officials.
In line with these green initiatives, the coalition government is dedicated to developing the Amaravati capital to international standards, aiming for 30 percent of the area to be designated as blue and green spaces. The administration is taking proactive measures to ensure future temperatures are maintained at least 2 to 3 degrees lower, drawing on successful plantation strategies from countries like Singapore and Japan.

No official version of Bharat Mata portrait, says Prasad
Ministers in the Left Democratic Front government in Kerala on Friday made it clear that they were not in agreement with the use of the Bharat Mata portrait at the World Environment Day event at Raj Bhavan here as the picture was not authorised as the official version by the Constitution or the Indian government. Agriculture Minister P. Prasad, who boycotted the event at Raj Bhavan a day ago over the use of the portrait, said that those in constitutional offices cannot convert government programmes into political events. A similar view was expressed by General Education Minister V. Sivankutty, who said Raj Bhavan and the Governor were above politics and said Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar should withdraw from the stand taken by him. The Governor had on Thursday asserted that there would be no compromise on Bharat Mata. No Indian flag Mr. Prasad, while talking to a TV channel, said no Bharat Mata portrait has ever been acknowledged as the official or authorised version by the Constitution or any of the governments in power since independence. The portrait was not carrying the Indian flag, but that of a political organisation, and, therefore, it could not be honoured during a government event. The Governor was free to pay homage to the portrait at private events, but it cannot be done in State government programmes. 'We all have a political view, but those in constitutional positions have restrictions on how they express it,' he said adding that the government view was that such a stand ought not to have been taken by a constitutional establishment. He expressed the hope that it will be corrected by the persons concerned. 'It actually should not be repeated in our country. We cannot accept it in Kerala,' he added. The Minister questioned why the Governor was 'rigid' on the issue when none of the earlier Governors and not even the Presidents of the country have carried out such a practice in the past.

Kolkata police tighten passport checks to crack down on illegal immigrants and ID fraud; address checks mandatory KOLKATA: Breaking the syndicates dealing with illegal immigration by identifying the gang heads and double-checking all received ID documents from the source to examine their authenticity were the two reasons behind the changes introduced in passport verification, said Kolkata Police commissioner Manoj Verma on Thursday, stressing the aim was to ensure illegal immigrants could not stay on. "We have re-evaluated the passport verification system. Our primary target is to identify syndicate members and individuals involved in such illegal activities. Wherever documents are getting used, we are scrutinising and verifying them right back to their source," Verma. "The accused at times use different addresses for different cases. We are cross-checking Aadhaar addresses with other ID documents." Verma was speaking to reporters after planting saplings at the Alipore Bodyguard Lines on World Environment Day on Thursday. He urged citizens to plant at least 10 trees as a "contribution to society". Going back to passport verification, Verma pointed out that no new passport would be issued nor any old one renewed without an address visit. Even cops asking passport applicants to visit police stations would face action, Verma said. The SOP says all documents of a passport applicant will be uploaded on the portal to root out discrepancy. Anwar is a closed chapter for LDF: T.P. Ramakrishnan
Convener of the Left Democratic Front T.P. Ramakrishnan has said that P.V. Anwar was a closed chapter for the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and that the front will never again trust a leader who changes his stand every now and then. Speaking to reporters in Kozhikode on Friday, Mr. Ramkrishnan said that the current political situation puts the LDF at an advantage in the forthcoming Assembly bypolls in Nilambur constituency and that M. Swaraj was a capable candidate. Mr. Ramakrishnan criticised the Congress for kicking up a controversy over the distribution of welfare pensions with the polls approaching. He explained the history of the welfare pensions in the State and alleged that the Congress was always against it. 'By criticising the distribution of pensions, they are insulting not just the goodwill of the government but over 62 lakh people in the State who receive it,' he said. The LDF convener welcomed the stand of the State government as well as the Department of Agriculture in boycotting the World Environment Day programme at the Raj Bhavan. 'The Governor adopted a stand favourable to the RSS and the department had no other option,' he said. He also stated that the results of the Nilambur bypolls will have a far-reaching impact on Kerala politics. He also stated that the Congress' approach to P.V. Anwar was nothing short of deceit.
