Account executive loses over RM100,000 to phone scam
JOHOR BAHRU: An account executive lost RM139,565 after falling victim to a phone scam syndicate impersonating a police officer.
Muar deputy police chief Supt Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah said the 40-year-old woman first received a call in January from someone claiming to be an insurance company representative, accusing her of being involved in a fraudulent claim.
'The call was then transferred to another individual posing as a police officer from the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters, who claimed the victim was linked to 21 police reports involving a non-existent investment scheme and that an arrest warrant had been issued,' he said in a statement today.
Muhammad Aidil said the victim was instructed to open a bank account for investigation purposes and to deposit funds into it to resolve the matter.
Convinced by the claims, the woman shared her bank card details and made 30 transactions between Jan 31 and June 17.
'The victim realised she had been scammed after all the phone numbers that had contacted her became unreachable.
'The woman filed a police report yesterday, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code,' he said.

Traditional healer freed from charges of raping student

The prosecution had called four witnesses to testify against Ronie since the trial began in October 2024 and concluded on December 9, 2024. Defence counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin represented Ronie.

Man found shot dead in vehicle outside Klang motorcycle shop
SHAH ALAM: A man was found dead in a vehicle, believed to have been shot, in front of a motorcycle shop in Meru, Klang today. Klang Utara district police chief ACP S. Vijaya Rao said the police were notified of the incident at 3.37 pm. 'Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the body of a 46-year-old local man slumped sideways in the driver's seat of a four-wheel-drive vehicle, covered in blood,' he said in a statement today. He said the victim was confirmed dead by medical personnel and the body was sent to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for a post-mortem. Vijaya said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. He urged those with information to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer ASP M. Sathiyaseelan at 012-5197913 to assist with the investigation. Earlier, images of the vehicle went viral on social media, showing holes in the driver's side window believed to be from a gunshot.
