Yankees fans show no mercy as Juan Soto gets booed during first at-bat in finale
Sunday's finale of the
Subway Series
at Yankee Stadium carried its usual high tension—but this time, much of the energy was directed at one man:
Juan Soto
. The former Yankee turned Mets star walked into a hostile environment as soon as he stepped up to the plate for his first at-bat. The Bronx faithful, not known for holding back, made their feelings crystal clear.
Yankees fans rain boos on Juan Soto
As Soto made his way to the batter's box, the stadium erupted in a chorus of boos. The crowd was unforgiving, letting the outfielder know that loyalty in the Big Apple doesn't shift easily—even for a superstar. A few Mets fans in the crowd tried to show support, but their cheers were quickly drowned out. The noise was a clear reminder of how quickly fans can turn once a player crosses borough lines.

The jeering didn't last long in that moment, though. Yankee pitcher Max Fried silenced any possible rally with a six-pitch showdown, forcing Soto to fly out to right field. As the ball landed in the glove, the boos transformed into raucous cheers—classic Bronx baseball atmosphere.
Soto's struggles at the plate in this heated matchup only added fuel to the crowd's fire. Across the first two games, he managed just one hit in six at-bats. While he did draw four walks—three of them on Friday—his impact was limited. A single strikeout might not seem like much, but when expectations are sky-high, every plate appearance carries weight.
This kind of fan reaction is nothing new in New York, where sports loyalty runs deep and emotions even deeper. Soto's decision to suit up for the Mets may have made him a hero in Queens, but in the Bronx, he's just another opponent—and a target for all the built-up rivalry energy.
As the dust settles on another fiery Subway Series, one thing is certain: Juan Soto won't be forgetting this reception anytime soon.

‘Ornaments worth Rs 1 lakh stolen from my daughter's body,' says mother of 13-year-old Bengaluru Stadium stampede victim
The mother of a teenage girl who died in a stampede at the Bengaluru cricket stadium on June 4, during a celebration of the Indian Premier League (IPL) victory of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has filed a police complaint stating that jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh which her daughter was wearing at the time of incident was missing when her body was handed over to the family. Ashwini Shivakumar, 35, the mother of Divyanshi B S, 13, the youngest of 11 victims in the stadium stampede, on Thursday lodged a police complaint stating that her daughter's body still had a pair of gold earrings and a chain when it was taken to the Bowring Hospital on the evening of June 4. It has been stated that at the time of receiving the body of the teenager, the family had not noticed the absence of the gold ornaments, and it was only later realised. The complaint has suggested that the ornaments were stolen at the mortuary. 'There is a lot of sentimental value attached to the ornaments as a sign of what was worn by my daughter in her last moments,' the Yelahanka resident has stated while seeking an investigation. 'She wanted to see him (Virat Kohli) up close. Her wish cost her her life,' Divyanshi's mother had stated after her death. Class 9 student Divyanshi was a dancer and wanted to become a veterinarian doctor, her mother said. 'She was a very mature person. In fact, she used to inspire me on how to handle situations in life,' Shivakumar added. 'Not just Virat Kohli, she knew the achievements of Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, and even other players,' Shivakumar, who had accompanied her daughter to watch the RCB felicitation at Chinnaswamy Stadium, had said a day after the death.

China Open 2025: Satwik-Chirag suffer semi-final heartbreak against Malaysia's Chia-Soh
Satwik-Chirag out of China Open (BWF/Badminton Photo) India's top doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were eliminated from the China Open Super 1000 badminton tournament after losing to Malaysian second seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in straight games 13-21, 17-21 in the semifinals on Saturday in Changzhou. The defeat marks another setback for the Asian Games champions against the world No. 2 Malaysian duo, who have consistently proven challenging opponents for the Indian pair. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The match was the 14th encounter between the two pairs, with the Malaysians maintaining their dominant head-to-head record against the Indians. Aaron and Soh, who are 2022 World champions and two-time Olympic bronze medallists, had previously defeated Satwik and Chirag in the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian pair had reached the semifinals after securing a hard-fought victory over another Malaysian duo, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi, in the quarterfinals on Friday. Satwik and Chirag have demonstrated consistent performance throughout the season, reaching the semifinals in multiple major tournaments including the India Open, Singapore Open, and Malaysia Open earlier this year. Quiz: Who's that IPL player? The pair also made it to the quarterfinals at the Indonesia Open but faced an early exit in the second round of the Japan Open last week, which affected their rhythm and momentum. Despite not converting their deep tournament runs into titles in 2024, their regular appearances in the latter stages of major tournaments maintain their status as top contenders in the circuit. 'MS Dhoni Will Walk Away When...': CSK Legend's Big Revelation Amidst Retirement Rumours
Last Updated: Speculations are rife over the IPL future of MS Dhoni who turned 44 earlier this year. The legendary MS Dhoni continues to be one of the biggest draws in IPL despite having retired from international cricket for nearly five years now. The ageing superstar continues to inch closer towards the end of his glorious playing career having turned 44 earlier this month. His future though remains a hotly debated topic especially with his abilities hampered by a knee injury which has limited his mobility. In IPL 2025, after an elbow fracture to Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dhoni the captain made his return for Chennai Super Kings. However, even his Midas touch wasn't enough for the five-time IPL champions to register their worst season in history as they finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time. Known for his finishing skills, Dhoni ended the season with 196 runs from 14 matches at a strike-rate of 135.17. Dhoni's former CSK teammate Dwayne Bravo though feels that people shouldn't expect the wicketkeeper-batter to bat the same way as he used to 10-12 years ago and the game needs him. 'I think because people have so much high expectations of him and when they see him play, he's not performing at the same level he was before so and they start questioning. But you have to understand that he's not the same person he was 8, 10, or 12 years ago. But I think what people need to remember is that MS don't need a name. MS don't need a brand. It's more important than anything else," Bravo told news agency ANI. Bravo claimed that CSK management isn't sweating over Dhoni's retirement. 'You know, the little moments that he's on that field, face value, you can pay for that. Someone like him walks away from the sport, the sport can dip. So I think people just need to allow him. I know for a fact that CSK management is not worried about MS Dhoni," he said. Bravo is 'baffled" at the concerns over Dhoni's retirement and claims the former India captain will walk away once he feels the time is right. 'So the fact that other people are so worried and so concerned about him, it baffles me. He will walk away from the sport when he believes his body can no longer take it. He's going to be honest with himself, and he'll walk away. But at the moment, he is still contributing. His wicketkeeping is still up there with the best in the leagues," he said. 'And he's batting at number 8. So, I mean, hitting a couple of sixes, that's what a number 8 does. You know, I don't think people should want to see MS Dhoni score 300-400 runs in a season. That's not the MS Dhoni. He's not going to do that. But let us just appreciate and accept the fact that he's still about a year or two. However long, let's enjoy that and let's embrace it," he added. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
