"One of the toughest teams": Yankees star Aaron Judge praises Mets after intense Subway Series

Image Source: Getty The Subway Series was once again living up to its hype, as the Yankees captain, Aaron Judge, told about the Mets after Sunday's finale that 'one of the toughest teams' the Yankees saw all year. New York Yankees and New York Mets fought through a tightly battled six-game set that ended in a split of 3-3 on the season. His comments also demonstrate the growing respect between the crosstown rivals following an electric back-and-forth showdown. Aaron Judge shares strong words about Mets after Subway Series battle Completing a four-game sweep of the Mets with an 8–2 win at Yankee Stadium Sunday, Aaron Judge spoke frankly about the team's performance in the season series all year. Aaron Judge said, 'They've got a strong squad over there. Good pitching, timely hitting, and they fight until the last out. One of the toughest teams we've played.' It came on the heels of the Mets winning two of three at Citi Field earlier this season and nearly stealing that weekend set in the Bronx, too. — SNYtv (@SNYtv) Aaron Judge's praise even extended beyond the roster. He also praised Mets manager Carlos Mendoza for keeping the team steady and using his head. The teams split the series, but both played postseason-quality baseball, and Judge reiterated how seriously the Yankees treated this year's rivalry. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Concentrated Siberian Ginseng Extract 2oz Superior Ginseng Undo His comments only up the ante for a potential playoff rematch with both teams in contention well into October. Yankees fans show no mercy as Juan Soto gets booed during first at-bat in finale

Boos echo in the Bronx as Juan Soto steps up for first at-bat against Yankees (Credit: Imagn Images) Sunday's finale of the Subway Series at Yankee Stadium carried its usual high tension—but this time, much of the energy was directed at one man: Juan Soto . The former Yankee turned Mets star walked into a hostile environment as soon as he stepped up to the plate for his first at-bat. The Bronx faithful, not known for holding back, made their feelings crystal clear. Yankees fans rain boos on Juan Soto As Soto made his way to the batter's box, the stadium erupted in a chorus of boos. The crowd was unforgiving, letting the outfielder know that loyalty in the Big Apple doesn't shift easily—even for a superstar. A few Mets fans in the crowd tried to show support, but their cheers were quickly drowned out. The noise was a clear reminder of how quickly fans can turn once a player crosses borough lines. — SNYtv (@SNYtv) by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The jeering didn't last long in that moment, though. Yankee pitcher Max Fried silenced any possible rally with a six-pitch showdown, forcing Soto to fly out to right field. As the ball landed in the glove, the boos transformed into raucous cheers—classic Bronx baseball atmosphere. Soto's struggles at the plate in this heated matchup only added fuel to the crowd's fire. Across the first two games, he managed just one hit in six at-bats. While he did draw four walks—three of them on Friday—his impact was limited. A single strikeout might not seem like much, but when expectations are sky-high, every plate appearance carries weight. This kind of fan reaction is nothing new in New York, where sports loyalty runs deep and emotions even deeper. Soto's decision to suit up for the Mets may have made him a hero in Queens, but in the Bronx, he's just another opponent—and a target for all the built-up rivalry energy. As the dust settles on another fiery Subway Series, one thing is certain: Juan Soto won't be forgetting this reception anytime soon. Griffin Canning dominant, Francisco Lindor notches two hits as Mets fall to Rays

The Mets lost to the Rays, 2-0, on Monday afternoon as their spring training slate continued. - Griffin Canning looked sharp while striking out three batters in the first inning, but also made one costly mistake -- leaving a pitch up to Josh Lowe, who cracked a solo homer to right-center field. That was the only big mistake Canning made all day, as he mostly toyed with the Rays' hitters. Over 4.2 innings, Canning allowed three hits and one run while walking one and striking out nine, lowering his spring training ERA to 0.90. Canning is battling with Paul Blackburn and Tylor Megill for the final two spots in the starting rotation, but the expectation is that all three pitchers will make the 26-man Opening Day roster -- with two on the starting staff and one in the bullpen. - Designated hitter Jesse Winker left the game early due to cramping in his calf. - Brandon Nimmo started in left field -- his first time playing the outfield since Feb. 28, as he's been dealing with a knee issue. At the plate, Nimmo went 0-for-2 with a walk. - Brett Baty got the start at second base as he continues to get the bulk of his action there. He made a really nice play with one out in the eighth inning, ranging far to his left on a chopper before fielding it and throwing on the run to first base for the out. Including the above play, Baty cleanly fielded every ball that came his way on Monday. Baty went 0-for-4 at the dish. With Jeff McNeil out for Opening Day due to an oblique injury, Baty could have the inside track to the regular second base job to start the season. - Francisco Lindor smoked a single to right field in his second at-bat and added a pop fly double his third time up. He finished 2-for-4. - Dedniel Núñez made his spring training debut and was sharp, retiring the side in order in the seventh inning. He hit 98 mph with his fastball, and finished his outing by getting a swinging strikeout on an 89 mph slider. - Jose Butto, who had been out of game action for just over a week due to a groin issue, pitched the eighth inning. Butto, whose fastball was up to 95 mph, worked around a soft one-out single to toss a scoreless frame. Kodai Senga, David Peterson put together strong spring debuts in Mets' tie with Marlins

The Mets and Marlins played to a 1-1 tie as they continued Grapefruit League play on Monday night at Clover Park. - The Mets have been taking things slow with Kodai Senga thus far in camp, but the right-hander took a big step on Monday night as he made his highly-anticipated spring debut. Senga was initially expected to throw one inning, but after needing just 15 pitches to get through an easy top of the first, he came back out for the second. Senga allowed a two out single in both frames but that was it, as he struck out two batters over two easy innings of work. He topped out at 96 mph and threw 31 pitches (20 strikes) before heading down to the bullpen to simulate another up-down in live batting practice -- overall, a very successful spring debut. - David Peterson also took the mound making his first appearance of the spring and he fared well, as well. The southpaw looked extremely sharp as he cruised his way through the Marlins' order, allowing just one hit while striking out five across three scoreless innings of work. - Jose Butto followed up Peterson and he was hurt by some soft contact. The right-hander allowed a pair of infield hits before Griffin Conine lofted an RBI single into shallow left to bring in the first run of the game. He loaded the bases with a two out walk before his outing came to an end with 24 pitches. - Max Kranick continued his spectacular start to the spring. The righty, who grew up a Mets fan, has struck out six batters and he's yet to allow a run over three appearances after putting together another 1.1 strong innings of work. Carlos Mendoza said following his last appearance that he loved how Kranick has been throwing hard and attacking the zone. - Tyler Zuber used his wicked newly developed changeup to punch out one of the two batters he faced in the ninth. He's had some command issues, as was the case in the minors last season, but he's also put together three consecutive scoreless appearances thus far in spring action. - New York's offense was kept in check in this one even with the top four of their lineup occupied by Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Mark Vientos. They were held to just one run on two hits as a team, and those four went a combined 0-for-10 on the night. - The Mets were actually held hitless over the first 4.2 innings before infielder Donovan Walton lined a two out two strike single in the bottom of the fifth. Their lone run came when Jose Azocar ended up on third via a three-base error, and then came in to score on a Simon Juan sacrifice fly. The Mets need Peterson to carry over his success from last season, and his spring debut was certainly a good start. Brett Baty collects pair of hits as Mets and Marlins play to a tie

Brett Baty picked up a pair of hits as the Mets and Marlins played to a 1-1 tie in Port St. Lucie on Sunday. -Max Kranick allowed a pair of hits to begin his afternoon, but he got out of the first inning unscathed thanks to a 5-4-3 double play and punchout of Connor Norby. Kranick pitched 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out one. He'll likely start the season at Triple-A Syracuse, and could be a multi-inning reliever for the Mets if needed at some point this season. -Mark Vientos, playing third base and hitting second in the order, singled to right field in his first at-bat against former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara, who very much looked like himself after missing all of 2024 due to Tommy John surgery. Vientos grounded out softly to short in the third inning, and ended his day 1-for-3 at the plate. -Brett Baty, serving as the DH on Sunday, had a nice day at the plate. In the fourth, Baty ripped a double one hop and off the wall in right center. His next time up, Baty slapped a single to the third base side, giving him two hits on the day. Baty may not be coming into the season as the starting third baseman, but he has a chance to make the team as a backup utility infielder and a left-handed DH option. -Elsewhere on the box score, Luisangel Acuña went 0-for-3 with a strikeout, as did centerfielder Jose Siri. -Following Kranick's two scoreless innings, the Mets also saw scoreless outings from Tyler Zuber, Daniel Juarez, Anthony Gose, and Kevin Herget. Cameron Foster finally allowed the Marlins' first run of the day on an RBI single with two outs in the eighth, which tied the game at 1-1 after the Mets scored their run in the fourth on a balk. Still, it was a good day for the Mets pitching staff. Baty, who had some good swings and looked comfortable at the plate.
