Ranchi/Jamshedpur: Timings of several trains running under the Ranchi railway division were rescheduled and diverted on Friday, due to damage to railway infrastructure caused by incessant rain since Tuesday across Jharkhand.
The operations of a few trains running under the railway division were also halted, as railway tracks were inundated and soil erosion severely impacted multiple railway sections. The Ranchi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express scheduled to depart from the Ranchi railway station was delayed by 2:20 hours, on Friday, following soil erosion on railway tracks. The train was scheduled at 5:10 am but was rescheduled to 7:30 am.
Likewise, Ranchi- Howrah Vande Bharat Express was delayed by two hours and the Hatia- Purnia Court Express suffered 8:15 hours delay on Friday.
Ranchi railway division CPRO Shuchi Singh said, "Considering passenger safety and operational requirements, the Ranchi railway division, has taken measures to ensure the safe operation of trains. Train timings have been affected due to tilting of overhead equipment poles due to soil erosion between Kita and Silli stations on the Ranchi–Muri railway section.
Repairing of the affected tracks has been carried out.
" Arrivals of several trains from major cities including Varanasi, Howrah, Purnia Court, and Patna to Ranchi and Hatia railway stations were also affected.
The Hatia–Anand Vihar Terminal Express was diverted via Tatisilwai–Mesra–Barkakana–Chandrapura, instead of its original route Tatisilwai–Muri–Kotshila–Bokaro Steel City. Ranchi–Patna Jan Shatabdi Express was also diverted through Tatisilwai–Mesra–Barkakana–Chandrapura, instead of its original route, Ranchi–Tatisilwai–Muri–Kotshila–Bokaro Steel City.
Similar situation was observed at Tatanagar railway station in Jamshedpur due to the water logging at the yard caused by the heavy rainfall. The trains which were cancelled includes Tatanagar-Barkakana, Tatanagar-Kharagpur, Tatanagar-Bilaspur, Tatanagar-Chakradharpur, Tatanagar-Badampahar, Tatanagar-Barbil, Hatia-Tatanagar, among other trains. "The work relating to the pumping out of water from the tracks in the yard is almost over and resumption of normal train service will commence anytime," said Tatanagar station director Sunil Kumar.

Monsoon Wading: Travelling on state's inter-dist roads a risky affair

1 2 Ranchi:Heavy monsoon rain has further deteriorated the already fragile inter-district roads across the state, including key roads. The Tata–Ranchi, Ranchi–Hazaribag, Khunti–Simdega and Bedo–Gumla stretches are now plagued not only by waterlogging but also by collapsing bridges and dangerous potholes, threatening the commuters. On the Khunti–Simdega stretch, maintained by the road construction department (RCD), the continuous rain led to the collapse of a diversion bridge in June. It was built over the Banai River and the collapse has completely disrupted the traffic between villages. Residents had to take detours by wading into several kilometre-long muddy makeshift paths. Sunil Kumar, the driver of a bus along the route said, "Our bus nearly toppled into a deep fissure near Torpa. Every ride feels like a gamble for life. It's horrible. Slippery roads, hidden potholes. You never know when you'll crash into the gorge." The Tata–Ranchi (NH33) corridor is also no longer safe. While a four-lane expressway exists, adjoining roads suffer from big potholes. Residents reported that many parts of the roads were flooded after even moderate showers. "Driving on these stretches feels like navigating through a river filled with potholes. Sometimes it's hard to tell where the road ends and the water begins," said Rajeev Prasad, a frequent commuter on the Tata–Ranchi route Moreover, the four-lane Ranchi–Hazaribag (NH33), shows signs of heavy neglect. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Even a minor rainfall unveils numerous craters, especially around the Ramgarh cantonment. A student from Hazaribag, Neha Sharma, said, "The ride on this stretch is bumpy and nerve-wracking. You have to swerve to avoid every pothole and God knows when another vehicle or vehicles will ram me while they are doing the same manoeuvring." On the Bedo–Gumla (NH-23) stretch, continued downpours have made most of the major roads impassable. Hundreds of potholes have mushroomed along this lifeline connecting Odisha, Chhattisgarh and beyond. Several incidents of accidents, mostly involving two-wheelers, have been reported on this stretch. Meanwhile, Anand Kumar, an NHAI official, said, "The restoration work on NHAI-maintained roads is underway. Due to heavy rain, there are currently some issues, but we are continuously working to resolve them. Our teams are on sites to ensure temporary repairs are done wherever possible and permanent solutions will follow once the weather stabilises."

Vande Bharat Express Stranded For 7 Hours In Odisha As Rains Flood Tracks

Torrential rains in Odisha's Keonjhar district on Saturday brought life to a standstill and severely disrupted railway services, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded aboard the Vande Bharat Express for nearly seven hours. The high-speed train, which was en route from Tatanagar to Berhampur, came to a halt around 7 PM at Guhalidiihi station after heavy waterlogging submerged the railway tracks. Nearly three feet of water was reportedly flowing over the tracks, making it unsafe for the train to proceed. Passengers were forced to remain inside the stationary train for hours. No serious health issues or injuries were reported. Railway authorities said that the safety of passengers was their top priority and assured that no untoward incident occurred during the ordeal. With no immediate improvement in the waterlogged tracks, the railway department eventually dispatched a rescue engine to tow the train to Kendujhargarh station. The Vande Bharat Express finally resumed its journey late at night, over seven hours behind schedule. The administration has been urged to improve response mechanisms during extreme weather events, especially as rainfall continues to affect multiple districts in Odisha. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several parts of the state including Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) over the next 24 hours due to a low-pressure area formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha. A yellow alert is in place for 17 other districts, predicting heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds. In the Northeastern part of the country, train services connecting South Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and the rest of India via Guwahati were restored on July 4 after being disrupted by a landslide in Assam's Dima Hasao district. The Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section had been blocked by boulders and debris between Dihakho and Mupa stations. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) carried out overnight restoration work, with the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express being the first train to pass through the cleared section.
