Telangana man trapped in UAE after 2 job agents misuse his bank account
"We have taken up the issue with the police, acting on the complaint made by the family, which has named two individuals from Telangana itself in connection with the fraud. The govt will send a letter to the Consul General of India in Dubai requesting legal assistance for him," said Mandha Bheem Reddy, vice-chairperson of the NRI advisory committee, speaking to STOI on Saturday.
Prasad's case is unusual in the sense, four years ago, he was promised an IT-related job in the UAE.
Two agents, one from Nizamabad and the other from Hyderabad, facilitated his travel, assuring him that he would eventually be sent to Europe on a work visa. The agents also collected 8.7 lakh from the victim.

On Nov 23, 2021, he landed in Dubai from India for work there. However, the promised IT job never materialised. What has now landed Prasad in trouble is that the two agents opened a bank account in his name and had him sign a rental agreement for a flat they took in Dubai.

Prasad's brother, M Sai Prasad, told STOI that they had also submitted a representation to the Nizamabad police, urging them to take action against the alleged job agents who defrauded his brother.
As he didn't have a job, Prasad supported himself by working as a cook, his brother added. Although he had no IT qualifications, the agents had promised him an IT-related job, allegedly to 'build his profile' for eventual relocation to Europe.

Supervisor held for duping Coimbatore-based contractor of Rs 78 lakh
COIMBATORE: The district crime branch police on Monday arrested a 51-year-old man for duping a Coimbatore-based contractor of Rs 78 lakh. The arrested man has been identified as N Rajan, 51, of Sir Shanmugam Road near R S Puram in the city. In 2021, Rajan joined Bharathi Constructions as a supervisor. The firm, owned by R Kalaivani of Malumichampatti, took contracts for road work in Thondamuthur, Perur, Alanthurai, Thenkarai municipalities in Coimbatore district and Sholur municipality in the Nilgiris district. Rajan was supervising the work undertaken by the firm. He was maintaining the firm's bank accounts. In 2022, the firm took a contract for laying roads in Sholur municipality in the Nilgiris district. Rajan was maintaining the accounts of the work. When the work was delayed, Kalaivani questioned Rajan. As Rajan did not answer properly, Kalaivani went to the bank and verified the firm's bank account handled by Rajan. He assured her to return the money he had transferred to his accounts and those of his wife and friends. But he returned only Rs 33 lakh to Kalaivani. When Kalaivani's efforts to retrieve the remaining Rs 78 lakh went in vain, she lodged a formal complaint with the district crime branch police on Saturday (Aug 2). The police registered a case against Rajan under Section 408 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested him on Monday. He was remanded in judicial custody.

3 killed, 4 injured in separate mishaps over the weekend in Mumbai and Thane
Mumbai/Thane: Three persons were killed and four others suffered injuries in three separate incidents in Vikhroli and Thane over the weekend. In the first incident that took place in Vikhroli (E) on Saturday evening, an autorickshaw driver fatally knocked down a pedestrian and injured three others within a span of 30 minutes. Vikhroli police constable Jyoti Gite witnessed the first mishap at 6pm near Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk. She said the auto driver, Jalindar Dongre (66), rammed into Manoj Goud (28), who was walking along the road. CSP operator shot at in Samastipur, over Rs 1 lakh looted
Patna: Armed miscreants shot at an SBI customer service point (CSP) operator and looted Rs 1.25 lakh from an SBI customer service point (CSP) at Malinagar village under Chakmahesi police station area in Samastipur district on Monday. The CSP operator, Manish Kumar, was shot in the right thigh while he was attempting to catch hold of the fleeing robbers, police said. Chakmahesi SHO, Santosh Kumar Yadav, said: "The robbers fired shots while fleeing, injuring the CSP operator. The stolen amount is approximately Rs 1.25 lakh," he said. Yadav said the initial inquiry from the victim revealed that the incident occurred around 1pm when two masked men, posing as customers, entered the CSP on two separate motorcycles. As they approached the counter, they brandished pistols and demanded money. "After seizing the cash from the counter, the robbers attempted to escape. In a bid to stop them, Manish hurled a hammer at the robbers, but it missed the target. In retaliation, the robbers opened fire, hitting Kumar in the thigh," he said. One of the robbers' motorcycles could not start so they escaped on a bike.
