'Kafer' tattoo on US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth sparks outrage

Al Bawaba27-03-2025

ALBAWABA - US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth recently sparked debate on social media after several users noticed the word "kafer" (non-believer in Arabic) tattooed on his arm, despite having a Crusader cross tattoo right next to it.
The picture was part of a post shared on Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter) by Hegseth's official account, where he "kicked off the day with the warriors of SDVT-1," following photos of the interaction.
He wrote, "Kicked off the day alongside the warriors of SDVT-1 at @JointBasePHH. These SEALs are the tip of the spear, masters of stealth, endurance, and lethality. America's enemies fear them—our allies trust them. Proud to spend time with America's best."
Several X users noticed the tattoo and took to the comment section to express their opinions on the matter in question.
An X user wrote, "Do you even know what that tattoo means?" While another added, "Why do you arm the people who call you "Kaffir"?"
This is not the first time Pete Hegseth sparked debate on social media for his tattoos. During an interview with Fox News, the US Secretary of Defense had to explain why he had a Crusader cross tattooed on him, which caused widespread controversy since it's allegedly linked to white nationalist extremists.
Hegseth responded and said, "Ultimately, I was considered an extremist or a white nationalist because of the tattoos I had by leaders in my unit," solidifying that it's a "Jerusalem Cross," which is also known as a Crusader cross.

Guterres to Israel and Iran: 'Stop the Escalation' - Jordan News

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Saturday urged both Iran and Israel to de-escalate tensions and halt hostilities following a series of mutual airstrikes. اضافة اعلان In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Guterres stated: 'Israeli bombing of Iranian nuclear sites... Iranian missile strikes on Tel Aviv. Enough escalation—it's time to stop. Peace and diplomacy must prevail.' Thick smoke and flames were seen rising from Mehrabad Airport in the Iranian capital on Saturday, as local media reported an explosion in the area amid ongoing Israeli-Iranian attacks that began at dawn on Friday. Israeli media reported early Saturday that Iran's missile strikes on Israel resulted in the death of an Israeli woman, dozens of injuries, and the destruction of nine buildings in Ramat Gan, a suburb of Tel Aviv. According to Haaretz, hundreds of apartments were evacuated after an Iranian ballistic missile struck one of the buildings. Israel's Channel 12 quoted an unnamed political source who warned Iran of further escalation, saying: 'Iran will pay an unbearable price for firing on civilian areas.' The source added: 'We know what Israel targeted in today's strikes on Iranian sites—and we know what Israel chose not to target. That's the next step.' This statement appears to hint at possible upcoming Israeli strikes on Iran's energy and infrastructure sectors. On Friday at dawn, Israel launched an unprecedented attack targeting the heart of Iran's nuclear, missile, and military complexes, killing some of the country's most powerful figures and pushing the broader Middle East into a new and dangerous phase, according to an analysis by CNN.

U.S. Sources: Situation with Iran "More Dangerous Than Ever" - Jordan News

U.S. Sources: Situation with Iran "More Dangerous Than Ever" According to a report by The Washington Post, U.S. officials have raised alarms about an increasingly volatile situation in the Middle East, citing the potential for an imminent Israeli strike on Iran. The sources revealed that American embassies and military bases across the region have been placed on high alert in anticipation of possible retaliatory scenarios. اضافة اعلان 'We are monitoring the situation closely, and we believe it is more dangerous than ever,' the sources stated. In parallel, Politico reported that U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth authorized the voluntary departure of military families across the Middle East, a precautionary move in light of rising tensions. Earlier, The Associated Press cited U.S. officials confirming that the State Department is preparing to evacuate non-essential personnel and diplomats' families from embassies in Baghdad, Bahrain, and Kuwait. These developments come amid the collapse of nuclear negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, with both sides exchanging increasingly hostile rhetoric. Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasser Zadeh, responding to threats of military action, declared: 'We hope the negotiations succeed. But if conflict is forced upon us, the other side's losses will be far greater than ours. We have the capability to strike every U.S. base in the region — we will not hesitate.' Meanwhile, in an interview with the New York Post published Wednesday, President Donald Trump admitted: 'I'm becoming less confident about reaching a deal' with Iran on its nuclear program. The statements underscore a deteriorating diplomatic landscape, with military posturing on both sides suggesting that regional conflict may be closer than at any point in recent years.
