Miracle as boy SURVIVES three days trapped at bottom of ravine after 240ft plunge
Dakota "Cody" Trenkle Jr had a skateboarding accident near his grandmother's home in Goose Creek Lake, Missouri, and became trapped down the ravine as a result A 13-year-old boy somehow survived for three days trapped down a huge ravine following a skateboarding accident. Rescue teams desperately searched for Dakota "Cody" Trenkle Jr after he became stuck down the 240ft ditch near his grandmother's home in Goose Creek Lake, Missouri. The teenager went without food or water for three days before a K-9 unit found him, and he was airlifted to hospital. As Dakota was put into medically induced coma, his mother Stephanie Neely maintained a bedside vigil for nearly two weeks and, against all odds, the youngster pulled through yesterday - and is set to be removed off his ventilator. Stephanie, 29, said: "Yesterday I felt like we were in a good place." Recalling the moment her sister found Dakota, an emotional Stephanie said: "I heard my sister go over the radio saying, 'We found him, we found him. He's alive.'... I broke down in the middle of the street, bawling hysterically, just trying to make my way down to where they had found him." Dakota, who survived dehydration during his ordeal, may soon be moved to a rehabilitation facility. He may require surgery but Stephanie, who has two other boys, says the picture looks far more hopeful than it did days ago. Her son, the eldest of her brood, was by chance shaded by a large bush in the ravine. Stephanie, who works in a prison, continued: "He ended up landing underneath some pretty thick brush, which helped shade him from the sun during the heat warning. "He was lying in five inches of water, which helped maintain his body temperature, and his body probably absorbed some of that water, even though he came in extremely dehydrated." He can speak, but speech patterns are delayed due to brain injuries, and he's experiencing short-term memory loss. His mum added: "I believe that it's going to be a long road of recovery with therapies. "Even when he's done with inpatient, he's still going to have a lot of outpatient therapies with physical and occupational, but I believe at the end of that road, he can be mostly normal. We're just taking it day by day and hoping that he keeps making small progress in the right direction." The family, who are from Potosi, Missouri, are now crowdfunding to help support Dakota's recovery. To support the GoFundMe appeal, you can donate using this link.

It meant return flight BA174, due in London last Friday, was cancelled — causing disruption for hundreds of passengers due to fly on the twin-engine Boeing 777-300. The Civil Aviation Authority launched an urgent investigation into the security breach. A source said: 'Crew and passengers immediately noticed the cockpit door was open and wanted to know what was happening. "It made passengers incredibly uneasy. 'The door was wide open for a significant time — enough for people to worry and comment. "BA colleagues were so alarmed that the pilot was reported in the US and bosses had to suspend him.' Since the 9/11 terrorists hijacked US passenger jets and crashed them into New York skyscrapers in September 2001, security has been stepped up so the cockpit doors are always locked. Sources at BA said the pilot's suspension was in line with policy. He is already back flying as no security threat was identified. Three teenagers accused of killing electrician on Isle of Sheppey will go on trial next year
A trial date has been set for three teenagers who allegedly beat a man to death with a concrete slab at a seaside resort. Alexander Cashford, 49, was found dead with multiple serious injuries in Leysdown-on-Sea on the Isle of Sheppey on Sunday. A 16-year-old girl and two boys, aged 15 and 14, were charged with his murder on Tuesday. On Thursday, a provisional trial date was set at Maidstone Crown Court for January 13 next year. The three are charged with murder by joint venture after a 'violent assault' took place near the beach in Warden Bay. Kent Police were called to the Warden Bay Road area shortly after 7pm on Sunday, after an altercation involving a small number of people. Mr Cashford was confirmed dead at the scene, and police said multiple injuries to his body were reported. A 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 14 and 15, all from London, were thought to have been on holiday in Kent at the time of the attack. Some local residents witnessed the attack, and tried to provide CPR to Mr Cashford, the court heard. The 16-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy appeared in court on Thursday morning and spoke only to confirm their 15-year-old boy appeared by video link from a youth detention centre. Family members of all three teenagers watched proceedings from the public gallery. The attack is alleged to have involved a glass bottle and rocks being thrown, the court heard. On Thursday, the prosecution said the cause of Mr Cashford's death is currently inconclusive as he seems to have suffered a 'medical episode such as a cardiac arrest could have been brought on by being chased and attacked'. He was found with bruising to his 'lower ribs and stomach' along with an injury to his head, the court heard. A 12-year-old girl, arrested on Tuesday in Basildon, Essex, in connection with the incident has been bailed. The 16-year-old girl and the two boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been remanded into youth detention accommodation. A plea and trial preparation date has been set for November 6. Yesterday specialist officers brought a sniffer dog to the scene as they continue to search for evidence. A police spaniel was seen sniffing around a small area with police tape set up around it. The cordon was put up in a large clearing behind the beach in front of a caravan park. They also covered some areas of the scrap land behind Warden Bay Beach. Mr Cashford appeared in court earlier this year, accused of following a young woman home from work and visiting her house in the early hours of the morning, where he posted a chocolate bar and a letter through her door. The daily Mail revealed that Mr Cashford, from Rainham, in Kent, visited the address in nearby Gillingham twice, first at 1.39am and then seven minutes later at 1.46am on March 9. He admitted a charge of stalking involving serious alarm and distress at North Kent Magistrates' Court on March 17 and was placed on a month's curfew and fitted with a tag which was to remain in place until September 16. Magistrates warned him to refrain from contacting the woman he followed, to keep away from her address and he was banned from the Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre in Gillingham. The Daily Mail can also reveal that Mr Cashford, who worked as an electrician, was jailed for three years and four months in 2015 after stealing vehicle parts worth more than £63,000. He pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to nearly 200 offences relating to vehicle theft, money laundering and making off without payment
