AAP leader Anmol Gagan Maan on Saturday resigned from the Punjab Assembly and announced that she is quitting politics.

In a post in Punjabi on X, she wrote, 'My heart is heavy, but I have decided to step away from politics. I request the Hon'ble Speaker to accept my resignation from the position of MLA. My best wishes remain with the party. I hope the Punjab Government lives up to the expectations of the people."

Maan, a singer-turned-politician, was elected from Kharar in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. She did not give any reason for her resignation. There was no immediate response from the Aam Aadmi Party as well.
Maan had joined AAP in July 2020 and was later made co-president of the party's youth wing. She sang a campaign song in praise of party leader Arvind Kejriwal before the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. In those elections, she defeated Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Ranjit Singh Gill in the Kharar seat by a margin of 37,885 votes.
After her victory, she was appointed as a minister in the Bhagwant Mann-led government and was given charge of tourism and culture, investment promotion, labour, and hospitality.
However, in September 2024, she was among four ministers dropped from the Cabinet. Maan, who hails from Mansa district, married advocate Shahbaaz Singh Sohi in June 2024.
Before entering politics, she was well known for her Punjabi songs such as Suit, Ghaint Purpose, and Sherni

Over Rs 44 crore released under MGNREGS so far: Centre tells Lok Sabha
Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) The Centre has released Rs 44,323 crore to states and union territories under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) so far, Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. In a written reply, the minister gave the figures of disbursements of wages, material and admin components till July 17, 2025. According to the revelation, the amount disbursed is almost half of the total allocation of Rs 86,000 crore earmarked for the financial year 2025-26. In a written reply to a separate question, MoS Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan said the allocation included full pending wage liabilities and 50 per cent of Material Liabilities of the previous financial year. 'Regarding budget allocation for Mahatma Gandhi NREGS it is submitted that, for the financial year 2024-25, budget allocation of Rs. 86,000 crore has been made, which was the highest ever allocation for the scheme at the Budget Estimate (BE) stage since inception. In the financial year 2025-26, the Government has retained this allocation at Rs 86,000 crore, ensuring continued support for rural employment," Chouhan said. He said that keeping in view the demand-driven nature of the scheme, the rural development ministry closely monitors demand for employment at the ground level and seeks additional funds from the Finance as and when required. Continuing govt work from hospital, says CM Stalin
Chennai, Jul 22 (PTI) A day after he was admitted to a hospital here following 'mild giddiness', Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday said he is continuing to perform his governance-related duties from the hospital. In a social media post, the Office of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu (CMOTamil Nadu) quoted CM Stalin and said the chief minister advised Chief Secretary N Muruganandam that there should not be any slackness in addressing issues underscored in petitions received from public during the ongoing 'Ungaludan Stalin' campaign. The chief minister learnt from the top official whether the camps under the Ungaludan Stalin scheme were being held as per the plan; the number of petitions received till Monday and petitions that have been addressed. Meanwhile, a release from the government said, as many as 5,74,674 petitions were received under the scheme till Monday. On July 15, Chief Minister Stalin launched the outreach programme 'Ungaludan Stalin,' (Stalin with you) to take government services to the people and redress grievances by organising special camps in their neighbourhoods. Stalin was admitted to a private hospital here on July 21, after he experienced 'mild giddiness" during his morning walk. The bill, which Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will table in Parliament on Wednesday during the ongoing monsoon session, aims to instill transparency, fairness, and robust governance across the country's sports ecosystem. A core focus of the bill is to ensure the independent and efficient functioning of national sports bodies, free from political interference. It brings these organizations under a unified regulatory framework while preserving their operational autonomy. One of the bill's major provisions is the establishment of a Sports Tribunal—a dedicated body to resolve disputes between athletes, office-bearers, and sports federations. Though the judiciary retains ultimate review powers, the tribunal is intended to provide a faster, more specialized mechanism for conflict resolution. Importantly, the bill also defers to the Olympic Charter in case of any policy conflict, reinforcing India's commitment to global standards of sport governance. The legislation supports India's broader ambition to become a top-10 Olympic nation by 2036. To this end, it mandates athlete representation in every National Sports Federation (NSF), enforces international best practices for high-performance governance, and prioritizes merit-based selection processes—minimizing internal rifts that often hinder Olympic preparations. Regular audits of NSFs will promote financial accountability and ensure optimal use of public funds allocated for elite sports development. The bill also lays down legal clarity around governance roles, enhancing India's credibility with bodies like the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and boosting prospects for hosting future international events. Athletes at the Center of Governance Placing athletes at the heart of decision-making, the bill requires each NSF to form Athlete Committees and include Sportspersons of Outstanding Merit (SOMs) in their leadership structures. This gives athletes a direct role in shaping sport-specific policies and ethical standards. The bill guarantees safe, harassment-free environments and establishes transparent, accessible grievance redressal mechanisms. It also aims to reduce career disruptions caused by drawn-out legal battles—creating a governance model rooted in accountability, athlete welfare, and inclusive administration across all levels of Indian sport.
