Three child marriages foiled in a month in Jind; officials step in to protect minors
. JIND: The district administration along with a NGO stopped three stopped three marriages in a month, in which all three couples were minors. In a fresh case, the district administration successfully intervened a child marriage at the local Vishwakarma Chowk area in Jind in which the bride and groom both were minors. The boy was 18 years old while the girl was 16-years old. This is the third child marriage prevented in a month in the Jind district. The first child marriage was stopped at Brahmanwas village on April 30, in which the groom's age was 20 and bride was 17. In this case, the boy had been selected in a government job in postal department, and the bride's father was poor, and following his financial condition, he fixed the marriage of his younger girl along with his elder daughter on the same day to save marriage expenses. The second marriage was prevented at Kharak Gadia village of this district on May 12, in which the groom's age was 18 and the bride was 13, said officials. In the fresh case, it came to light that preparations were underway and the groom's procession was ready to proceed to complete further marriage rituals at the bride's house at Narnaund town of Hisar district. The team members apprised the groom's mother, a widow, and guests of the strict provisions of the Child Marriage Act 2006. For some time, she tried to mislead in showing birth certificates of her son, but after strict warning from the team members, she produced the certificates in which it came to light that the he was 3 years shorter than marriageable age. After this, the birth certificates of the brides were also demanded on WhatsApp, and after verifying the documents, the bride was also found to be just 16 years old. Later, the groom's mother recorded her statement before the police that she was illiterate and unaware of the provisions of The Child Marriage Act 2006, said Surender Singh Mann, head of MDD, an NGO which was involved with district administration in all three marriages. Maan said that under the aegis of Just Rights for Children (JRC), a national platform of 250 civil societies working in 416 districts in the country, his organization was working against child marriage in 14 districts of Haryana , including Jind. He further said though different social reasons forced parents to tie the knot of their minor children but independent choices of brides and grooms totally ignored, as parents treat them as their private property, which is an injustice to them.

SMC: Arab Media Conference an Opportunity to Correct Stereotypes About Iraq
Head of the Security Media Cell, Major General Saad Maan, stated today, Wednesday, that the Arab Media Conference in Baghdad represents a significant opportunity to correct prevailing stereotypes about Iraq. He noted that the participation of more than 200 Arab media professionals in the conference sends a clear message of confidence in the country's current stability. Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Maan said: 'The fourth edition of the Arab Media Conference, held in Baghdad under the patronage of the Iraqi Media Network, is an important platform for conveying an accurate picture of the reality in Iraq—free from flattery or media distortion.' He added, 'We are in urgent need of presenting a realistic image of Iraq. We do not seek promotion or compliments, but rather a precise and honest portrayal of the situation. Iraq, and Baghdad in particular, has long suffered from media injustice and either intentional or inaccurate misrepresentation.' Maan emphasized that 'the presence of over 200 Arab journalists and representatives from Arab media institutions marks a genuine breakthrough in the effort to correct the false stereotypes about Iraq,' affirming that 'the security situation in Baghdad is largely stable, comparable to that of many regional and international capitals.' He further explained that 'presenting reality as it is benefits not only Arab media, but also the region and the world, because Iraq is deeply rooted in history, active in shaping the future, and a key player in the equation of stability and development.' He stressed the importance of 'unifying Arab media discourse on shared issues, avoiding fragmentation and narrow agendas.'

Belgian mother, son die in Jordan floods: Authorities
Jordanian rescue teams have recovered the bodies of a Belgian tourist and her young son who went missing during flooding in the south of the kingdom, authorities said Monday. The rescuers found 'the bodies of a woman and her son, both Belgian nationals, who had been missing after flooding in the Shubak region', about 200 kilometers (125 miles) south of Amman, the General Security Directorate said in a statement. Her two other children were found alive and well. 'The bodies found after several hours of searching in difficult weather and terrain conditions have been evacuated,' the statement said, without giving further details. The Belgian woman and her three children were part of a group of tourists -- including 14 Czechs -- on an unguided 'adventure trip' on Sunday, according to Maan governor Hassan al-Jabur, as reported by the official Al-Mamlaka TV channel. Authorities evacuated most of the group, but the family went missing, he said, adding rescue teams later found two of the children in 'good health'. Jordanian authorities on Sunday evacuated nearly 1,800 tourists from flooding in Petra, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage site. No casualties were reported after flooding hit the ancient site, according to an official. Jordan's meteorological authority published a video showing flash floods hitting the Petra, a major tourist attraction. It showed holidaymakers gathering at the entrance of the Treasury, one of the site's most iconic tombs, before being evacuated. Similar evacuations have occurred in the past, as the area witnesses increasing rains and storms which scientists say occur more frequently around the world due to climate change. Petra, famous for its stunning temples hewn from rose-pink cliff faces, was chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a 2007 online poll.
