Who is Anmol Gagan Maan? AAP MLA resigns from her party, also quits politics
Maan sent her resignation to the Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, without giving any reasons behind her decision. In a message on X, Maan wrote in Punjabi, 'My heart is heavy, but I have decided to leave politics. My resignation from the post of MLA to the Speaker should be accepted. My best wishes are with the party. I hope the Punjab government will live up to the expectations of the people.'
There was no immediate reaction from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Party sources said Maan resigned a few days ago and the party had tried to persuade her to reconsider her decision, news agency PTI reported.
According to a PTI report, the 35-year-old singer-turned-politician won her maiden election from the Kharar Assembly constituency in 2022. She had defeated Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Ranjit Sing Gill from the Kharar seat by a margin of 37,885 votes in the 2022 assembly polls.
Hailing from Mansa district, Maan began her political career after the AAP in July 2020. According to her 2022 poll affidavit, Maan has studied till Class 12, the report said.
Before taking a plunge into politics, Maan had made her name in the Punjabi music industry. She sang many songs like 'Suit', 'Ghaint Purpose', 'Sherni', 'Zamantan', 'Golden Girl', 'Royal Jatti', 'Red Fulkari' and 'Velly'.
She later became AAP youth wing co-president and actively participated in the party's protest programmes and took on the then Congress regime before the assembly polls, the report said.
She also sang a campaign song – 'Kejriwal hai' – for the Aam Aadmi Party before the 2022 assembly elections.
Before the 2022 assembly polls, Maan had said that if AAP comes to power, the government would give the MSP on each crop 'within five minutes'. The opposition leaders used her video statement to target the AAP after it failed to fulfil the promise.
She had accused administrative officers in Mohali of seeking bribes in her name in September 2024. She had levelled allegations against executive officers and tehsildars of Kharar of bringing disrespect to her.
According to the PTI report, Maan also faced flak from her political rivals for the poor conditions of roads and the sewerage system at several places in her assembly constituency.
She became a minister during the Bhagwant Mann government's first cabinet expansion in July 2022. She was among five MLAs who were given Cabinet berths.
She was the second woman to become a cabinet minister in the Mann government. Her responsibilities included important portfolios like tourism and culture affairs, investment promotion, labour and removal of grievances, as report by PTI.
However, the Bhagwant Mann government dropped four ministers, including Maan, from the Cabinet in September 2024.
When she was a minister in June 2024, Maan tied the knot with advocate Shahbaaz Singh Sohi. They got married at a gurdwara in Mohali's Zirakpur with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and several AAP leaders attended the ceremony.

Delhi Govt to review welfare schemes to ensure help reaches eligible beneficiaries: CM Rekha Gupta
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Monday announced that all current welfare schemes of the Delhi Government will be reviewed to ensure that only those deserving get help, and directed officials to take steps to improve the implementation of these schemes and ensure transparency and accountability. Gupta also said the process of issuing digital ID cards to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) will start soon. Taking a dig at the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regime, Gupta said the former government had cheated the deprived section of society, but her government will not allow such misuse anymore. 'Our aim is to establish a robust, inclusive, and sensitive support system. We will ensure that no deserving individual is left out, and public funds are used responsibly,' the CM said. The chief minister also accused the previous government of consistent fraud and negligence towards Delhi's underprivileged communities. 'Many ineligible individuals benefited from schemes meant for the truly needy,' said Gupta as she alleged there were serious irregularities in the disbursement of widow pensions during the previous administration's tenure. 'Many women who were not eligible were granted pensions unchecked. Our government will not allow such malpractice. Those who are truly eligible will receive financial assistance under all circumstances, but those found ineligible will be excluded from these schemes,' she said Review meeting The CM also held a high-level meeting with officials of the Social Welfare Department and the Department for the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The meeting focused on reviewing ongoing schemes designed to uplift economically and socially marginalised communities. Gupta said the government is not only providing financial assistance but also extending support in the form of rehabilitation, skill development, education, and other essential welfare services. Officials said the Delhi chief minister also reviewed several key welfare schemes designed to support vulnerable sections of society. The Financial Assistance for Senior Citizens scheme provides monthly financial aid to individuals aged 60 and above, especially those from SC/ST communities or economically weaker backgrounds. 'Depending on their age, eligible beneficiaries receive between Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,500 per month. Over four lakh senior citizens have already benefited from this initiative, which is designed to help them live with dignity,' said an official. Another initiative of the Delhi Government is the Assistance to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), under which individuals with severe disabilities who are unable to support themselves are granted Rs 2,500 per month. So far, around 1.34 lakh people have received this support, which aims to promote their social and economic empowerment. The Delhi Family Benefit Scheme (DFBS) provides a one-time financial assistance of Rs 20,000 to families that have lost their primary breadwinner, said officials. The scheme is currently available to approximately 1,100 dependents, officials said. Additionally, the Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise (SMILE) scheme focuses on rehabilitating individuals involved in begging. It provides essential services, including shelter, medical care, counselling, skill training, and livelihood opportunities, to help them reintegrate into mainstream society with dignity and purpose.

Sanskrit, French as optional languages; teaching in Punjabi in early grades: Union ministry lists Punjab's initiatives under NEP
From introducing pre-primary classes in all schools to the introduction of Sanskrit and French as optional languages to teaching in mother tongue in early grades — the Union Ministry of Education Monday listed several initiatives that have been undertaken by the Punjab government in sync with the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. Responding to a question by Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi, Union Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Education Jayant Chaudhary replied that Punjab has taken several initiatives in alignment of NEP. 'As informed by the state of Punjab, following initiatives aligned with the NEP 2020 are being actively implemented, under the umbrella of centrally sponsored schemes of Samagra Shiksha and PM SHRI, with continued financial and technical support from the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India: 1. Implementation of pre-primary classes in all primary schools of Punjab including rural areas 2. Foundational Literacy and Numeracy: The NIPUN Bharat Mission is being implemented with focus on achieving FLN by grade early childhood education activities are being promoted in all primary schools,' Chaudhary said. The reply said on multilingualism and mother tongue instruction, Punjab schools are teaching in the mother tongue Punjabi in early grades. 'In context to multilingualism, the state has already taken the following initiatives: Sanskrit, French, German and Urdu languages are also implemented as an optional subject at senior secondary level. Most of the time classroom instructions are given bilingually and students have the option to choose one medium from Punjabi, English and Hindi. Teaching-learning materials and resources have been developed and disseminated in Hindi, Punjabi, and English, catering to regional language needs,' the MoS said. Chaudhary added that training modules and digital content have also been translated into these languages. He also said in Punjab, Teacher Professional Development is being carried out under the NISHTHA training modules aligned with NEP goals. 'In the category of digital and tech-based education, the state has adopted initiatives like DIKSHA. The state has also approved 5 TV channels under PM e-Vidya. In the assessment reforms, learning outcomes-based assessments are being promoted. Punjab participated in PARAKH-led national assessments like NAS and is incorporating competency-based evaluation in line with NEP directives,' he added. Furthermore, the PM-SHRI scheme has been implemented in 347 schools of Punjab.

Mohit Suri on Film's Plot Director Suri had earlier maintained that 'Saiyaara' was an original script, co-written with Sankalp Sadanah, and that the story had evolved from his desire to explore 'the pain in love' in a grounded and Indianised setting. In an interview with PTI, Suri said, 'In love, there will be pain… If love is not real, it's not felt. I believe in it more than I fantasise about it.'
