Padraig Harrington boosts impressive €34m net worth with new six-figure payday

The 53-year-old Irishman recently claimed his second U.S. Senior Open title in four years at Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, and has been excelling on the PGA's over-50 tour. This season, he's earned roughly €1.2m in nine tournaments, including a €225,000 payout for second place at the Senior PGA Championship at Congressional Country Club in May.
His wealth, built primarily from three major championship wins and sponsorships with brands like Wilson Golf and FootJoy, underscores his financial success.
McIlroy remains the second-richest golfer ever, and insists he isn't planning to join the Champions Circuit when he becomes eligible to. "Absolutely not," the 36-year-old once said.
"I've said a lot of absolutes in my time that I've walked back... but I do not envision playing Champions Tour golf. Something has gone terribly wrong if I have to compete in golf at 50."
Harrington, in contrast, might challenge that view, having just earned €682k and citing his course familiarity and mental resilience as key to his victory.
"Here I'm comfortable," the veteran Irishman admitted. "I'm not thinking I'm going to miss the cut. Touch wood that doesn't happen. If you brought me to a regular event on Thursday afternoon, I'd be thinking about the cut line. Whereas here I'm thinking, how do I get myself into position?"
He added: "Even the first couple of days, I got going and could have pulled away from the field. I dropped back a couple of shots, but I was still going. All I want is to be in it with nine holes to go and in the right headspace."
This win adds another milestone to Harrington's Champions Tour career, which began in 2022 with Rookie of the Year recognition. His 2022 U.S. Senior Open victory demonstrated his lasting prowess, and this latest success cements his ability to compete at the top, with six top-three finishes in his last sixteen major Champions Tour events.
McIlroy and Harrington teamed up for Team Europe at the 2010 Ryder Cup, where McIlroy drove Europe to victory, and Harrington made his sixth straight appearance. While Harrington thrives in the over-50 golf world, McIlroy's stance is unlikely to change.
Though McIlroy hasn't set a firm retirement date, the career Grand Slam winner has voiced his intent to retire with energy "left in the tank". He also wants to exit golf on his own terms, not forced out by chronic injuries.
McIlroy's TGL Golf partner, Tiger Woods - who turns 50 in December - is contemplating a move to the Champions Tour.

Lee Westwood made light of jet lag to book his return to The British Open following a two-year absence after winning his qualifier in Scotland. However, his former Ryder Cup and current LIV Golf team-mate Ian Poulter, Poulter's son Luke and Portrush-born ex-US Open champion Graeme McDowell all came up short in their bids to make the final major of the year. Westwood, 52, who has played in golf's oldest championship 27 times previously, finished top at Dundonald Links after posting seven under for 36 holes. Westwood had flown in from Dallas where he had been competing in Sunday's LIV Golf event. "I've been up since half-past one this morning with jet lag so I was starting to feel it," said Westwood, whose move to the Saudi Arabia breakaway series removed his chances of qualifying for majors through regular tour events. "I haven't tried to qualify for the last couple of years for one reason or another. "Royal Portrush is a fantastic golf course and I played well there last time, finished fourth in 2019, so that was another reason to come and play. "The Open Championship is the greatest tournament on the golfing calendar. I'm not getting any younger, I'm 52 now." Poulter at least finished the day with some pride intact as, having trailed Luke all day in the scoring, finished level with his 21-year-old son on one under. Luke followed an opening 67 with a 76 at Royal Cinque Ports in Kent, with his dad shooting 72-71, as they and McDowell finished just short. "I played good on the first 18, the last 18 not great," said Luke. LIV golfer Dean Burmester topped the leaderboard at Royal Cinque Ports after a brilliant eight-under second-round 64 lifted him to 10 under. That was three better than Nathan Kimsey – whose professional golfer girlfriend Lauren Taylor won the 2011 Women's Amateur at Portrush – and Curtis Knipes, who qualified for the 2019 Open. Derbyshire amateur Sebastian Cave and Dane John Axelsen completed the five qualifiers. At Dundonald, amateur Connor Graham won a play-off to join fellow Scot Daniel Young, Spain's Angel Hidalgo, Swede Jesper Sandborg and Westwood in qualifying. Another LIV golfer, Lucas Herbert, finished top at West Lancashire, near Liverpool, with an eight-under total after rounds of 69 and 67. That was one better than China's Sampson Zheng, with England's George Bloor third and amateur Richard Teder – who holed out from the fairway for eagle at the third extra hole to become the first Estonian to play at The Open – and Finland's Oliver Lindell coming through a four-man play-off. Galway man Ronan Mullarney missed out, alongside England's Sam Bairstow. England's Jacob McGoldrick endured a roller-coaster end to his qualifying as a hole-in-one at the 15th put him in line to progress, only to card two late bogeys to miss the play-off by one. At Burnham & Berrow in Somerset, Cornwall-born PGA Tour winner Harry Hall qualified alongside winner Justin Walters, who finished nine under, Dane Jakob Skov Olesen, amateur Frazer Jones and fellow Englishman OJ Farrell.

Son of an Irishman, James McCabe's Wimbledon journey came to an abrupt end after being beaten in straight sets in the opening round at SW19. In a fairytale story, McCabe managed to qualify for the world's most recognisable tournament and largely has his father, Patrick McCabe from Walkinstown, Dublin, to thank. Ranked 181st in the world, Fernandez McCabe grew up in Australia with his Irish father and Filipino mother Irene Fernandez and took a road less ventured in his tennis journey. Speaking to RTE in the build-up to the tournament, Patrick revealed how he taught his son to play the game through YouTube videos as professional lessons were too costly. "That is my childhood. Maybe it wasn't normal at the time," James said. "It builds character and without it I wouldn't be where I am now. So I'm just grateful. I'm lucky." Unfortunately for James, the Wimbledon journey was short-lived after being beaten in straight sets by Hungary's Fabian Marozsan. It proved a tough first-round draw for McCabe with his opponent ranked 58th in the world. Played on Court 11, Marozan won the match 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 to book his place in the second round. And although Ireland does not have a rich tennis history, McCabe does hold an Irish passport and is among the few who have graced the hallowed grounds to do so. The last Irish player representing the country to play in Wimbledon is Limerick's Conor Niland, who also lost in the first round in 2011. He would go on to win the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award for his autobiography The Racket.

Keith Andrews knows he will be afforded no honeymoon period at Brentford
New Brentford head coach Keith Andrews says his varied career path has prepared him to lead the Bees into their new era. But he admitted he will be afforded no honeymoon period as he takes over from Thomas Frank who has headed across London to Tottenham. Despite being dealt a tricky start to the season – with Brentford set to play Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester City and United – in their first seven games, Andrews stressed his lack of experience will not guarantee extra patience from the club hierarchy. The Irishman said: 'I've been given no assurances, the reality is that it's a football club that has been built in a certain way and we have ways to do things which aren't the norm. 'The support Thomas had throughout his tenure was impeccable, the relations he built were very connected and aligned and I don't see that being any different.' Former Ireland midfielder Andrews has been coaching in some capacity since he was 29 and still playing. He opened up on the risks he has taken to get to this point, including becoming a set-piece coach under Frank at Brentford last summer. 'I think I left MK Dons as a first-team coach in the Championship nine years ago and every single person whose opinion I valued told me to stay because jobs in football are very difficult to find,' he said. 'But I knew it wasn't right for one reason or another, I needed to go in a different direction. 'I'm under no illusions this is going to be a difficult job but I feel like the foundations I've put in place give me the best possible chance to succeed – and the people around me.'
