Akshay Kumar Defends Doing 4 Films A Year: 'If I'm Getting Work, I'm Doing It'
Last Updated: Akshay Kumar addressed criticism of his multiple films each year, stating he enjoys diverse roles and sees no reason to stop. He emphasised his passion for work. While most actors space out their releases over the years, Akshay Kumar continues to chart his own course, starring in multiple films annually. Naturally, this hustle has drawn both admiration and criticism, especially from those who feel he's become too visible on screen. But Akshay is unbothered. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, the actor responded to the backlash with his usual straightforward honesty. 'I like it. I enjoy playing different characters—and why not? Some people complain about me doing four films a year, but I don't see the reason why I shouldn't. If I'm getting work, I'm doing it. Some movies work, and some don't. A person has to work and go to the office every day; he can't just sit at home and say, 'Ab main thoda ruk jaata hoon.' I want to work. Because I do 4 films, I want to play different characters, and it gives me a lot of happiness." For Akshay, it's not just about staying busy—it's about creative satisfaction. He sees every new role as an opportunity to explore something fresh and step into uncharted stories. 'I want to get into and try and play those characters, to get to work with so many directors and tell stories that haven't been told. I'm very happy I got to tell the story of C. Sankaran Nair. Before that, there were Sky Force, Sarfira, and many more films. I always try to get as close as possible." Clearly, the actor has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. Most recently, Akshay Kumar appeared in the comedy-thriller Housefull 5, which boasted a star-studded ensemble cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey, Nikitin Dheer, and Johnny Lever, among others. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar's much-talked-about upcoming film Welcome To The Jungle has hit a rough patch. According to reports, the film's shoot has been put on hold due to serious money troubles. The movie, which began filming in December 2023, hasn't seen much progress in the last 9 to 10 months. The last time the team shot anything was back in August 2023 and since then, it's been a long pause. What's worse, a large part of the film is still left to shoot. A report by Pinkvilla claims that the cast, including the big stars, haven't been paid yet. Their payments are pending, and that's made the situation even more uncertain.

Watch Twinkle Khanna's reaction During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Akshay spoke about Hollywood taking inspiration from Indian mythology. He shared his views when he was asked whether all the stories present in the country were getting a stage or a medium to be shared. Following this, Akshay shared that varied stories are present in the country. Akshay said, 'There are so many stories here, and I personally believe that Hollywood takes a lot from our stories. Their superheroes and their superpowers are all inspired by our mythology. The kind of stories we have is unbelievable, like I didn't know the story behind Kannappa before the film.' To this, Vishnu shared that he also feels that Star Wars has been inspired 'by Mahabharat'. He also claimed that ET was also inspired by a script written by Satyajit Ray. It seems he was referring to the time when, back in 1982, upon the release of Steven Spielberg's ET, it was thought that he had actually plagiarised Satyajit Ray's The Alien. Akshay, along with Vishnu, will next be seen in Kannappa. Kannappa is a mythological drama film inspired by the tale of Bhakta Kannappa, a devout follower of Lord Shiva. Vishnu Manchu will play the titular character, while Mohanlal and Prabhas take on pivotal roles. Akshay Kumar will portray Lord Shiva, and Kajal Aggarwal will play Goddess Parvati. Produced by M. Mohan Babu, the film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024. It will release on June 27 and will clash with Brad Pitt's F1, which will be releasing just two days prior.
