A shocking incident in Delhi has gone viral after a woman recorded her own accident during a Rapido bike ride. The woman, identified as Priyanka on Instagram, shared a video capturing both her safety concerns and the eventual crash. The video has sparked conversations about road safety and the responsibilities of ride-hailing services.
Priyanka booked a Rapido ride but said she started feeling unsafe soon after. The driver allegedly refused to provide her with a helmet. He was also seen riding without one. Priyanka claims he repeatedly broke traffic rules and even drove on the wrong side of the road.
Feeling unsafe, she began recording herself during the ride. 'This might be the first time I felt super unsafe with the way the Rapido driver was driving," she wrote in her Instagram post.
Crash Caught on Camera
The video shows the bike colliding with another two-wheeler coming from the opposite direction. The accident happened right in front of a Delhi Police car. Both the rider and Priyanka tumbled onto the road.
Despite the crash happening near the police, no action was taken. Priyanka said that since the driver was injured, the police did not intervene. She paid the fare and walked to her destination.
Social Media Outrage
Priyanka's Instagram video quickly went viral, gaining more than 67,000 likes and numerous comments. Social media users expressed shock over the driver's careless behaviour and supported Priyanka for highlighting the incident.
Many users also raised concerns about safety standards among bike taxi drivers. 'No helmet and wrong-side driving should not be tolerated," one comment read.
Rapido Responds
'Thank you for confirming that you're fine. As per your request, we are not taking any action against the captain involved. However, if you face any similar issue in future rides, please feel free to reach out to us. We will be more than happy to assist you."
The company's response drew mixed reactions. Some users appreciated the prompt engagement. Others criticised Rapido for not taking strict action.
The incident has revived the debate on safety measures in India's rapidly growing bike taxi market.
