Teacher banned from the classroom after encouraging pupil to perform sex act on him
A teacher who encouraged a 'vulnerable' young pupil to perform a sex act on him has been banned from the classroom indefinitely. Jason Harrison also inappropriately touched the pupil while working at Notre Dame High School in February 2019, a misconduct hearing has found. Harrison, 35, who joined the Sheffield school in September 2015, then failed to alert staff about the incident, the tribunal heard. Among the documentary and oral evidence presented was the witness statement the pupil's mother gave in August 2019. She said her daughter told her Harrison had 'pushed her down so that she was on the floor and said 'it will only take ten seconds''. Harrison was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct after a number of 'serious' allegations were proven and he was found to have been in breach of multiple professional standards. The panel added that the 35-year-old had shown a 'complete lack of insight and remorse', failing to recognise the 'devastating' impact of his actions on the pupil and her family, instead choosing to focus on how he had been affected by the incident. It said: 'Mr Harrison's failure to take responsibility for his actions provides evidence of a real risk of repetition.' The tribunal concluded: 'The panel made very serious findings that Mr Harrison engaged in sexual conduct with Pupil A and his actions were sexually motivated.' Harrison has consequently been banned from teaching, with no opportunity to overturn the decision. A ruling issued last month on behalf of the education secretary said: 'The findings of misconduct are particularly serious as they include a teacher engaging in sexual activity with a vulnerable pupil who was also a child.' It continued: 'This means that Mr Jason Harrison is prohibited from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children's home in England. 'Furthermore, in view of the seriousness of the allegations found proved against him, I have decided that Mr Harrison shall not be entitled to apply for restoration of his eligibility to teach.' Harrison, who had denied the allegations, did not appear at the hearing. Notre Dame High School is a Catholic co-educational academy that caters to pupils aged 11 to 18.

Police commissioner faces call to quit over Cornwall bodies claim
Devon and Cornwall's police and crime commissioner is facing pressure to resign after she wrongly claimed multiple bodies had been found by officers in woodland at the centre of a murder officers later confirmed only the remains of one individual, believed to be Daniel Coleman, had been recovered at the site near Sticker, Cornwall. Alison Hernandez later apologised "for any alarm caused" and said she "was not in possession of all the facts at that time".Chair of the Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Panel Sally Haydon said the "seriously flawed information" caused unnecessary public alarm and undermined trust in the force, calling it "yet another serious mistake". 'Deeply unhelpful' Hernandez was answering questions at a live-streamed meeting of the panel on Friday, when she said: "We have got a huge forensics tent down there and lots of forensics officers, obviously we've found dead bodies in that wood."We're just trying to establish how many there may be at this point in time and whether we are aware of who they are or what might have happened to them."So we also don't know how long they may have been there, some of them."Senior officers later confirmed only the remains of a single individual, believed to be Daniel Coleman, had been recovered, James Desborough, 39, is accused of murdering Mr Coleman, from St Austell, between 2 June and 7 July. He is due back before Truro Crown Court next Supt Jon Bancroft said in a statement released by the force the case was not linked to other murder investigations in the who also serves as Plymouth City Council's cabinet member for community safety, said: "It's extremely disappointing that the commissioner shared such seriously flawed information at the panel."It created a period of real worry and is deeply unhelpful when we need to restore confidence in our police force," the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) and crime commissioners are elected officials whose role is to help ensure police forces function effectively. 'Considering her position' Haydon added the remarks came shortly after Hernandez had been corrected by her monitoring officer on a separate issue during the same commissioner also declined to disclose details of a financial settlement with outgoing suspended Chief Constable Will Kerr, saying the information would be published in next year's accounts. Last year, she appointed a deputy commissioner against the panel's advice and he resigned after five months."All of this, coupled with apparent chaos at senior levels of the force, raises serious concerns," Haydon said. "I believe she should be considering her position."A spokesperson for Hernandez said: "The police and crime commissioner has clarified her position following her comments during a Police and Crime Panel meeting last Friday, July 25, which was a busy meeting covering a wide range of policing topics. "There will be no further comment at this time."Hernandez made headlines in 2017 when she suggested on BBC Radio Cornwall armed members of the public could be a "solution" if there was a terrorist attack."I'm just saying... let's officially have a look at that and see what would be the implications of it," she said.

Compton, of Cathays, Cardiff also previously admitted six charges of arranging the commission of child sex will serve a minimum tariff of seven years before he can apply for parole. Warning: this story contains graphic details Sentencing Compton to life in prison, Judge Tracey Lloyd Clarke told him "it is clear you were the driving force in the messages" and he "did not accept seriousness" of his Matthew Cobbe told the court there were an "extraordinary amount" of messages related to "discussing sexual depravity involving children".The court heard it took officers several weeks to go through the messages, which related to two girls and a boy under the age of 13 at the time the messages court heard that two of the children were aged eight and one was 12 when Compton and Turner began discussing Cobbe said while no contact was made with the children, the messages sent over many months showed a "clear attempt to arrange and commit sexual activities" with the children."Fantasy plainly turned into obsession," Mr Cobbe said, as Compton described in messages "graphic accounts of what he wanted to do" with individual court heard that messages showed Compton was interested in children "aged one to six".Both Compton and Turner shook their heads as graphic details of the messages they sent to each other were read Cobbe said the pair exchanged messages where they discuss the possibility of going to a festival or camping, so they could "be around" families with young children."Turner suggests a family festival, not too expensive," Mr Cobbe said. In the messages, Compton described it as a great idea, commenting he would like to go to a "hippy one, where lots of drugs consumed leaving unattended girls". "That's genius babe," Compton added. The court heard of "brutal acts" planned for the children in specific locations including a shed and a Cobbe told the court they discussed the "disposal" of a child if their attack had lead to a "fatal conclusion" with Compton saying he would take full responsibility if that prosecutor told the court "what began as fantasy became obsession and an intended goal".One plan included drugging one of the children with a sleeping pill before abusing Cobbe said it was clear Compton "wanted the plan to go ahead". None of the offences were related to Turner's hospital role although she was suspended from work after she was also admitted making and distributing images of child abuse by sending images to "like-minded people".Compton was arrested in December 2024 after a concern was raised about messages from him on a dating told police he did not have his phone with him, but Turner had given it to a pub landlord for safe keeping before asking the police what was landlord passed the phone to police and Turner was also initially denied any and Turner had also both denied a string of other conspiracy offences, including conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to rape and conspiracy to kidnap. Those charges will now lie on file. 'Gut-wrenching and sickening' The parents of the children had personal impact statements read in mother said that when she heard what the messages contained, it was "gut-wrenching and sickening. I lost my appetite and was upset and sick all the time".The mother said "we stopped walking to school altogether and didn't know who we could trust", adding "we are hesitant to allow them to socialise away from us".She said the thought "of what could have happened to our child by two people with monstrous sexual intent is unfathomable".The father of another child said: "The pain they have put me and my family through is incomprehensible. It's harder than losing my mother." The mother of a third child said she was "furious", adding she was "put in a situation where I have to lie to my child to protect her from the truth". "In time I hope my internal horror will diminish," she added. If you have been affected by any of the issues raised in this article, there is support available through BBC Action Line.
