'Sang'gre' pilot episode earns high praise, leads primetime ratings
"Sang'gre" aired its epic and goosebumps-inducing pilot episode on Monday, which earned high praise from viewers and led the primetime ratings for June 16. According to Aubrey Carampel's report in "24 Oras" Tuesday, praises from netizens poured in as "Sang'gre" delivered its pilot episode. "This is how you open the most-awaited telefantasya in the whole Philippines. We're witnessing history," said one netizen on X (formerly Twitter). "Grabe. Thank you, GMA for giving us this masterpiece on free TV. Visually pleasing. I love how the team focused on the details," another netizen said. The June 16 pilot episode also earned a combined rating of 13.7 from GMA and GTV channels, according to preliminary data from the Nationwide Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM) People Ratings. In comparison, "Batang Quiapo" earned a combined rating of 12.9 from TV5, A2Z, and Kapamilya Channel. Meanwhile, the new generation of "Sang'gres" composed of Bianca Umali (Terra), Faith Da Silva (Flamarra), Angel Guardian (Deia), and Kelvin Miranda (Adamus) could not help but turn emotional after their watch party for the pilot episode. "Hindi po ito posible kung wala rin po sila, Encantadiks mahal namin kayo. Sana po ay masaya kayo," shared Bianca. "This is something that I've only prayed for in the past, sobrang napaproud ako," Faith also said. The watch party was attended by GMA executives as well as Rhian Ramos, who stars as the evil ice queen Mitena in "Sang'gre." Rhian's performance as Mitena in the pilot episode also garnered praise from viewers. "Rhian Ramos as Kera Mitena has to be one of the greatest casting made in history. She owns every second of her scene while serving face card," one netizen had said on X. Accrding to Rhian, her performance was a combination of many things. "Combination po 'yun nung syempre 'yung pagsulat ng script, ang ganda ng set design, 'yung mga effects, 'yung mga costumes. Everything just adds to 'yung power and magic ng mundo ng Encantadia," she said. The pilot episode of "Sang'gre" was a return to the familiar, as it opened with a flashback to Sang'gres Pirena, Amihan, Alena, and Danaya, played by Glaiza De Castro, Kylie Padilla, Gabbi Garcia, and Sanya Lopez. The four Sang'gres were shown riding on horseback towards Lireo before a dragon arrives, prompting them to use the powers of the gems of fire, air, water, and earth to slay the dragon. The pilot episode also showed Mitena (Rhian) in action, killing the fearsome giant, Arsus, to rule over Mine-a-ve, the land of the cursed. "Sang'gre" airs weekdays on GMA Prime at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras." —CDC, GMA Integrated News
