Our Beauty Writer Swears By This Glow Giving SPF For Summer
It may have taken legendary make-up artist and beauty brand founder, Bobbi Brown, a number of years to develop, but like many of Jones Road's offerings, it was certainly worth the wait. We have already declared our love for the brand's very first Just Enough Tinted Moisturiser, and the next of Jones Road's firsts follows suit with a product that reinvents mineral sunscreens for the better.
Speaking about her newest innovation, Brown explains, 'Everyday Sunscreen took many years to develop. I had to make sure that not only was it clean and effective but that it also paired incredibly well with make-up. It needed to look natural, layer well, and not leave a dry or uncomfortable finish. This is my new ideal base for everyday protection, and works perfectly with all of my Jones Road make-up.'
There has been much debate about the pros and cons of using sunscreens that provide protection through chemical filters or mineral filters, but Brown saw fit to hone in on the latter which uses zinc oxide to build a physical sun protection. But before you ask about the notorious natural white cast mineral sunscreens leave on darker skin tones, note that Brown has done her due diligence here too - she's included colour-correcting pigments in each tinted shade to offset any ashy, grey finish.
Another characteristic of mineral sunscreens that Jones Road has sought to correct if the overall feel. Usually thicker and pastier than chemical sunscreens, the Everyday Sunscreen has flipped the script on mineral SPFs with a texture that ups the comfort factor. It is lightweight, smooth and glides over to reveal a lit-from-within sheen on the skin. Meaning there is no pilling, sliding, or heavy-feeling in sight.
Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'I tend to sit on the chemical filter side of the sunscreen debate, purely based on the fact that I favour a lightweight, undetectable SPF that leaves my skin without a trace of ashy discolouration. And, the fact that, while mineral sunscreens have their benefits (they are great for sensitive skin and the environment), I haven't found one that doesn't leave my skin feeling weighed down. That was until I tried Jones Road Everyday Sunscreen. I'm not saying it's the lightest SPF I've used - it needs to be worked into the skin - but after some light massage it glides over like butter leaving you glossy and never greasy. It looks (and feels) totally traceless. As for make-up? It pairs beautifully, there's no caking my skin looks more radiant. That said, the SPF leaves my skin so perfected and glowy I sometimes even forgo foundation altogether. It's a win-win.' 1.
Jones Road Everyday Sunscreen
What the brand says: 'Everyday Sunscreen is a broad spectrum mineral SPF 30 for daily sun protection that pairs perfectly with make-up. Each tinted shade contains color-correcting pigments to help offset white cast, a natural result of the physical sun protection that zinc oxide provides, for a natural finish. Lightweight and smooth, it's the ideal base for make-up.'
What we know: Years in the making, Jones Road seems to have cracked all our pet peeves with mineral sunscreens, read: a heavy finish and white cast on medium to deep skin tones. The Jones Road Everyday Sunscreen seems to correct all those wrongs with a formula that leaves skin looking so good you could forgo foundation.

That was until I tried Jones Road Everyday Sunscreen. I'm not saying it's the lightest SPF I've used, it doesn't run down my fingers like my go-to and it needs to be worked into the skin, but once you apply some minimum effort it glides over like butter leaving you glossy, never greasy, and looks (and feels) totally traceless. As for make-up? Mines sits atop like a treat, sans caking and helps to boost overall radiance, but the SPF leaves my skin so perfected I sometimes even forgo foundation. It's a win-win.' Pros Lightweight feel
Mineral sunscreen Cons Only five shades available

Still some good stuff in a festival of floppy-haired self-indulgence
Katharyn Henson is at West Nic Records, downstairs from the Counting House, until Sunday, August 24 Last weekend, due to Trump's visit, the eyes of the world were on Scotland. Seven days later, with people arriving for the Fringe from all over the UK and the world, are the eyes of the world on Edinburgh? Probably not. I really don't think the world is that fussed. Learn More Sorry, there seem to be some issues. Please try again later. Submitting... We're into day two of the Fringe, and some of my fellow comedians are already on the verge of meltdown. I'm fortunate to live in Edinburgh all year round, and I go home to my own bed every night, chat with my neighbours at the bus stop and have the occasional pint at my local pub. My only grumble is that bus journeys take twice as long as normal. That gives me a sense of perspective other performers don't if they're sharing a city centre flat with a load of other comedians. Living in that kind of bubble, it's very easy to get caught up in the self-referential madness of the Fringe. The rest of humanity really doesn't give it much attention. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The rest of Scotland know it's happening, but I reckon most people aren't particularly interested, caring more about the fact that today is the start of the football season in the Scottish Premier League. Even in Edinburgh itself, the majority of people will be more concerned about Hibs and Hearts results over the weekend rather than the antics of a bunch of floppy-haired poseurs from London coming to town for the month to tell their so-called 'jokes'. And, fear not, this year's Fringe is shaping up to be the same self-indulgent festival of onanism as it is every August. But there is some good stuff out there too. Here are some shows I recommend you see before they sell out. One of my favourite acts on the Scottish circuit, Richard Brown, is only doing a very short run this year, but he is definitely worth catching. Brown walks a very thin line between being overly politically-correct and shockingly outrageous, but he pulls it off with aplomb. His esoteric musings mean that he is often described as 'a comedian's comedian', a moniker he complains earns him very little money. One of the most original comic voices in the country, Brown is always a joy to watch. His wonderfully-titled show, Nauseatingly Woke Full-Grown Jellyfish, is at The Stand for three nights only from Tuesday, August 12 to Thursday, August 14. Don't miss it. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The wonderful Katharyn Henson brings her show, Stories from the Office of a Sex Dungeon, to the free festival. I saw it at Perth Fringe when I was out in Australia earlier this year. It is an eye-waveringly funny true account of one of her earliest jobs as the manager of a BDSM dungeon in New York City. Known for her dark humour and gag-a-second delivery, Henson adopts a gentler storytelling style to this show. However, given its subject matter, there is still plenty of risque material to enjoy. She is at West Nic Records, downstairs from the Counting House, until Sunday 24. I've done two performances of my own show, Last Chance Saloon, at The Stand and it's been very busy so far. Come along if you want to hear this nonsense said out loud with added swearing.
