Rangers warned Club Brugge could dish out Champions League 'pasting' as ex Ibrox man points to one worrying issue

Russell Martin's side have conceded over 100 shots on goal in their six games this season Rangers' deficiencies at the back could see their Champions League ambitions get ended in devastating style against Club Brugge, according to one former Ibrox defender. ‌ Despite their 3-0 advantage from the first leg, Russell Martin 's men had a nervy night in the Czech Republic on Tuesday night, falling to a 2-1 defeat, and were it not for keeper Jack Butland, things would have got a lot more close for comfort. ‌ The Light Blues have had over 100 shots against them in six matches in all competitions, with both of their clean sheets coming at home in the Champions League. ‌ Gers already trail Celtic in the Premiership by four points after drawing their first two games and in the view of ex full back Richard Foster - they could be on the end of a hiding by Belgian outfit Brugge that will consign them to the Europa League for another season. Speaking on GO Radio, he said: "I think they could get a pasting. "If you give a team of the quality of Brugge those kind of chances, they'll score four of them. "That then puts a whole different dynamic on the way Rangers are playing under Russell Martin. "Against Panathinaikos I felt they gave up too many opportunities and had to rely on Jack Butland, which is fine as he's a goalkeeper and it's his job to make saves. ‌ "But at some point, some teams are going to score more of those chances than miss. "Rangers could be on the end of a pasting and that's why I think they will struggle against Brugge." Boss Martin admitted in the wake of their progression in Plzen that his side needs to up their game if they want to get past the final qualification hurdle. ‌ He stated: "If we don't show a bit more care and quality on the ball, I think we will struggle against anyone. "I'm disappointed we lost and I'm disappointed with how many chances we gave up. I think so much of it comes from just being so loose with the ball. "We were playing against a team who had nothing to lose, who really committed so many numbers, four on the top line, with a heavy press. "We played through the press a lot in the first half, got into their final third a lot, then just turned the ball over."

Rangers miss out on summer transfer target who said Ibrox move ‘would suit me' as he seals big-money move to Italy

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RANGERS have missed out on one of their main summer targets - as he's opted for a move to Italy instead. Rangers boss Russell Martin last night hinted that he plans to add further reinforcements to his frontline before the window closes after growing frustrated with the lacklustre performances from certain players in his squad. Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 1 Russell Martin wasn't impressed with some of his stars in the Czech Republic Credit: Willie Vass He took aim at some of his stars and admitted his frontmen let his defenders down as Gers got the job done in Plzen despite a disappointing 2-1 defeat on the night. And with Cyriel Dessers potentially facing a spell on the sidelines following his nasty knock, Martin could return to the transfer market to bring another body in. But he won't be able to sign one particular target that the club have have been tracking all summer. Rangers have been linked with several attackers since the window opened, including Matija Frigan and Dor Turgeman to name a couple. It's been fairly quiet on the transfer front in the last few weeks regarding the pair, but one of them is now finally on the move. Croatian hitman Frigan is finally set to leave Westerlo after months of speculation as he nears a big-money move to the Serie A with Parma. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims the 22-year-old has agreed to join the historic Italian outfit in a deal worth close to €10million (£8.6m). It's believed Frigan, who netted 13 times for Westerlo last season, also had interest from English Championship side Hull City as well as Rangers. He emerged as a target for the Light Blues back in June and it was understood the Ibrox club were at one stage preparing a £6m bid for the attacker. He was one of the strikers being eyed as a replacement for Dessers who had AEK Athens on his trail. Rangers players look terrified and exposed under Russell Martin Frigan even revealed later that month that Rangers could be the perfect fit for him - because the style of the Scottish league would suit him. Quizzed on the growing speculation around a move to Glasgow, Frigan said: "Rangers? That style of league would suit me. I think I'm a player for that type of football. "I know about the interest from clubs, it's good to hear and read such things, but we'll see. Nothing has been decided yet "Things are in the hands of my agent and when there is something more concrete, we will know. We will weigh everything up and choose the best option. "I have a good season behind me, some clubs are contacting me, but we will see what is best. "I can't say that I am not enjoying it in Belgium, on the contrary, but a change of environment is always good. "Nothing is ruled out and we will see what happens in this transfer window. "I'm in no hurry and there's plenty of interest in me. Of course, that makes every player happy… "I've got a lot more stronger in Belgium. Working on physical preparation is 90 per cent of the training in Belgian football. "I can say that I'm a lot stronger both mentally and physically." "I've always thought he was a great goalie."I remember the first time I went to Ibrox with Dundee. I thought I'd scored in the first minute. He pulled out a worldy save, so I was raging at him for that!"The way he carries himself about the training ground, the way he does everything is just really good for me to look up to. "He's always doing extra and all that, it's just good for me to look up to and see that. No matter where he is at in his career, he's still doing that and trying to get better."Cameron described his first goal for the club as a "massive moment" and insists the team will improve once they implement Martin's style 22-year-old is well aware of the scale of the test Club Brugge - who draw 2-2 with Rangers in pre-season - will bring in the first leg at Ibrox next Tuesday."Obviously, we know it's not going to be an easy game," he added."They're a good side. We played them in a friendly at Ibrox a couple of months ago, so we know they're a good team but that's just what you have to expect to play in the Champions League. "We need to show that we can compete at that level, and hopefully we will."
