New Delhi: MS Dhoni's CSK teammate Dewald Brevis is being phenomenal in T20 cricket with every passing day. The young batter smashed 53 off 26 for South Africa against Australia in the deciding T20I of the ongoing three-match series at Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns. How was Dewald Brevis' knock?
Dewald Brevis' knock included four and six sixes, talking about the three sixes, they came off consecutive deliveries, the star batter smashed those against Aaron Hardie in the 10th over of the first innings. But, the interesting part is that all were no-look shots. What happened in the over?
The first six was smashed on the third ball of the over, which was a stunning pull shot that went over the roof and out of the park from the deep square leg boundary. Star batter Dewald Brevis kept his head down in the follow-through and only looked towards it while starting to walk down to the non-striker.
Aaron Hardie increased the pace, but bowled the second ball too full. Imagine, when you bowl a full ball at around 128 kmph speed to an inform batter, obviously, you get a result of another huge six. Brevis smashed that second six down the ground and high over long on. Going towards the third ball, which was even worse than the other two, it was wide and outside off, but still in the slot, and Brevis was prepared for it. The star batter sent the ball over long-off this time. Interestingly, all three were no-look shots. Where is the video?

After a wide delivery gave him a moment to breathe, he smashed a fourth straight six on the final ball of the over to bring up his fifty. That shot was impressive, too. Hardie tried to surprise him with a short and wide delivery, but Brevis reacted quickly and used his fast hands to hit it cleanly over the boundary.
He was dismissed two overs later by Nathan Ellis. The pace bowler delivered a clever slow bouncer outside off stump. Brevis went for a big shot but didn't connect well, sending the ball towards long-on, where Glenn Maxwell took a sharp catch. By the end of the innings, Brevis was the highest run-getter of the series, scoring 180 runs with a strike rate of 204.55.

Harshit Rana 'undeserving'; 'extremely ordinary' numbers spark outrage over Asia Cup call: Why didn't BCCI reward Siraj?

The announcement of the Asia Cup squad has raised questions over the All India Selection Committee's decisions. The absence of players like Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna has put Ajit Agarkar and his panel under scrutiny, especially since these names had impressed with their performances in the IPL. Harshit Rana has been picked in the Asia Cup squad.(BCCI X) Former India opener Aakash Chopra has now raised questions over the inclusion of Harshit Rana. Rana had an underwhelming IPL 2025, taking 25 wickets at an economy rate of 10.18. He also has only one T20 experience at the international level, and the selectors preferred him over the likes of experienced Siraj and IPL 2025 purple cap winner Krishna. Chopra did point out Rana's match-winning performance as a concussion replacement against England, but he raised concerns over his performances before and after that. "Harshit Rana's case is very interesting. His case needs to be discussed because he came as a concussion replacement for Shivam Dube once, picked up three wickets as well, and became the Player of the Match, which was brilliant, but what about before and after that?" Chopra said on his YouTube channel. The former cricketer turned commentator didn't shy away from saying that Rana hasn't done enough to deserve a place in the side. "The last IPL was extremely ordinary. His performances have not been very good. His numbers are not flattering. It doesn't seem like his numbers are strong enough to deserve a place in the side," he added. Talking further about Rana's case, he emphasised that he will only get a chance in the XI when Bumrah gets rested against a weaker side in the group stage. "The truth is also that he won't get to play all matches. In fact, he might get to play even one match when Bumrah isn't available. If he isn't getting a chance to play, you say that whoever is sitting out doesn't make a difference," he said. "Prasidh Krishna should have got a chance" Chopra felt that Krishna, named only among the reserves, merited a place in the main 15. He also pointed out that Siraj's outstanding performances in England could have earned him a call-up, but the selectors seemed to have taken a different direction. "However, if you see the recent record, you will find that Prasidh Krishna should have got a chance, or you could have thought about rewarding Mohammed Siraj, but the team has once again gone towards Harshit," Chopra observed.

On Harshit Rana's Selection, BCCI Shown No Mercy: 'What Message Are You Giving?'

Former India batter Kris Srikkanth has criticised the selection of pacer Harshit Rana for the Asia Cup 2025, while highlighting his underwhelming returns with the ball in IPL 2025. Srikkanth suggested that Harshit did not deserve a place in the squad, especially at the expense of Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, who won the purple cap in IPL 2025. On the selection of Harshit, India captain Suryakumar Yadav, while speaking during the squad announcement press conference, defended the call and said that the pacer has done well in his recent outings for India. "I think he is doing really well in the IPL and in the game which he has played for India. I remember that concussion replacement game in Pune. I also remeber he got a Man of the Match in the last T20I he played for India. So, we back his skill. We know he has got that skill to deliver for India in this format," Suryakumar said. However, Srikkanth was visibly upset while speaking on the selectors call to pick Harshit. "Where did Harshit Rana come from? He was so poor in the IPL. He is being managed. He had an economy rate of 10 in the IPL. What message are you giving to Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj? Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel 'Cheeky Cheeka'. Srikkanth was also unhappy with the balance of the team, saying that someone like a Washington Sundar should've been part of the team, instead of Shivam Dube. "They will make Tilak Varma the sixth bowler. Is Abhishek Sharma going to be your sixth bowler or Shivam Dube? He hardly bowled in the IPL. This is an adjustment selection. If you needed someone who can bat and bowl at No. 8, Washington Sundar would have been ideal. Shivam Dube at No. 8 does not make any sense," he added.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli disappear from latest ICC ODI Rankings. What happened?

File photo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Curiously, neither Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli appear in the latest ODI Rankings, issued by ICC - cricket's global body. In the latest update, August 19, neither of India's ex-captains find a spot in the top-10 rankings. In last week's update, Rohit was in the No. 2 spot with 756 points while Kohli stood in the fourth place with 736 points. Now, Shubman Gill is the leading batter in ODI rankings with 784 rating points and Shreyas Iyer in sixth on 704 points. The other Indian in the top-20 places is KL Rahul in 13th with 638 points. Latest ICC ODI Rankings, updated on August 19. (Image: ICC) Incidentally, Babar Azam, who had slipped to third in last week's rankings with Rohit taking over the second place, has now moved back beneath Gill. Neither Rohit or Kohli have played any cricket since IPL 2025 while their last appearance in India's colours came in March in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand. Do players disappear from the ICC Rankings? Yes. As per ICC's rules on rankings, a player can be removed from the top-100 spots if they've not played a match within the qualifying period - 12-15 months for Tests and 9-12 months for ODIs and T20Is. Alternatively, a player can be removed from the rankings for good if they retire from a format or completely from international cricket. ICC, in its rulebook, explains that when MS Dhoni retired from Tests in 2014, he was removed from the Test rankings, but remained in the ODI rankings. This is why Kohli and Rohit are not presented in the latest Test and T20I rankings considering they've bowed out from both formats. Both retired from the shortest format after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup and from Tests in May this year. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!
