The Firm: controversial fly-on-wall legal doc is back
Episode two finds the solicitor and campaigner set his sights on abolishing Crown immunity laws which prevent institutions such as the Scottish Prison Service being held criminally responsible for deaths in custody.
The final episode focuses on several asylum cases being handled by The Firm's immigration team, including that of a Namibian woman who came to Scotland to claim asylum based on her sexuality and the domestic violence she faced in Namibia.
The press release for The Firm says it promises 'a unique and unfiltered insight into all the tactical manoeuvres, setbacks, controversies and battles involved in lengthy legal proceedings, as well as highlighting Aamer and his team's personal motivations for taking on such challenging and unrelenting work'.
The new series, narrated by Gail Porter and produced by STV Studios Factual, is a follow-up to The Firm, which aired on BBC Scotland in 2023 and is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
The first series attracted criticism for its blend of serious legal matters and light-hearted office politics.
Review: Whose terrible idea was this?
Aamer Anwar said: 'This series will show you the families we are honoured to work with, who inspire us, who symbolise what justice should be about, not a gentleman's club, not the vanity of wigs and gowns, but ordinary people who demand justice as a right and not a privilege. No lawyer should ever be afraid to raise their voice for the truth and I hope The Firm shows that is exactly what we fight to do.'
The Firm launches on BBC Scotland at 9pm on Tuesday 17 June, with all episodes on BBC iPlayer the same day.

Winners of Race Across The World 2025 crowned
Housewife Caroline, 60, and 21-year-old Tom became the first mother-and-son team to win after reaching the final checkpoint in Kanniyakumari, the southernmost tip of mainland India, to claim their £20,000 prize. Four teams in the 14,100km (8,761-mile) race successfully crossed Asia, the world's largest continent, to make it to the finish line. During Wednesday's episode, Caroline and Tom had to find Vattakottai Fort where the final sign-in book was waiting. After turning the page to discover they were the first team to make it to the landmark they hugged, overcome with emotion. Writing their names in the book, Tom said: 'That's a really good feeling, I'm lost for words, I can't believe it. 'Fifty-one days racing through countries I never thought I'd go to. 'I never thought we'd come this far, I never thought we'd achieve so much and I've never been prouder of my mum – she got me through it.' Sisters Elizabeth and Letitia came second, just 19 minutes behind the winners, with teenage couple Fin and Sioned third. Brothers Brian and Melvyn arrived in fourth place, three hours and five minutes behind Caroline and Tom. The winning pair began the last leg in the lead, six hours and 54 minutes ahead of Elizabeth and Letitia. They started from the seventh checkpoint, Panaji in Goa with just over 1,000km (600 miles) to traverse across the southern Indian states to reach the finish line. Reflecting on their win, Tom said the race was 'the best experience of my life'. Caroline said: 'We've learnt so much, we've enjoyed it and to actually win it as well as to have the experience is the best thing that could have happened to us.' The contestants traversed areas of China, Nepal and India, covering more than 14,000km over 51 days. The teams will reunite for a special episode airing at 9pm on Wednesday June 18 on BBC One where they will reflect on the race and the impact it has had on their lives. All eight episodes of Race Across The World are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Everything we spotted in the teaser for the final of the BBC's Race Across the World
Everything we spotted in the teaser for the final of the BBC's Race Across the World "We've seen the world and now we are racing it" Sisters, Elizabeth and Letitia, are seen encouraging their boat riders to make the boat go faster during the final episode of Race Across the World (Image: BBC ) The latest series of Race Across the World is getting closer and closer to the finishing line, with the pair who cross it first crowned winners. The fifth series of the BBC programme introduced us to five teams, former married couple Yin and Gaz, sisters Elizabeth and Letitia, young couple Fin and Sioned, brothers Brian and Melvyn, and mother and son duo Caroline and Tom. While Yin and Gaz were eliminated after not reaching the third checkpoint, the four other teams have managed to travel all the way from the Great Wall of China at Huanghuacheng in China, through Nepal and into India. The final checkpoint will be in Kanyakumari - the southernmost tip of India. With the seventh episode seeing Caroline and Tom reach first position while Brian and Melvyn ended up last with a 17-hour difference, despite finishing on top at the last checkpoint, it's still all to play for. At the end of the seventh episode, viewers caught a glimpse of what to expect for the eighth and final episode, which will be aired on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Wednesday evening, June 11. In the teaser, Caroline tells Tom in the back of a taxi: "It all comes down to now", to which Tom replies: "It does, we've seen the world and now we are racing it". Also travelling on a night bus are young Carmarthenshire couple Fin and Sioned. "We just need that extra push to win," Fin says. "And we can do it." Despite a disappointing end when they reached the penultimate checkpoint, it seemed that brothers Brian and Melvyn were still planning on fighting for a chance to win the competition. "Why can't we catch up 19 hours?" Melvyn asks, as he and Brian walk through a town square. "Everybody knows you can catch up time." Brothers Brian and Melvyn were ready to close in on the other teams (Image: BBC ) In another scene, mother and son duo Caroline and Tom are spotted running towards a harbour as they spot the boats. "If Thomas and I can win this race, it would mean the world to me," Caroline is heard saying as a clip of her in a life jacket on a boat is shown. "I feel the pressure is on," she adds. It seems that Elizabeth and Letitia also make it onto the boat, wearing similar red life jackets. Fin and Sioned were spotted on a night bus (Image: BBC ) Both the sisters and Caroline are seen encouraging their respective boat riders to make the boats go faster - could this be down to the fact that multiple teams are closing in on the finishing line around the same time? In another scene, Sioned and Fin are also spotted travelling in a boat. "It's all down to this book," Sioned says with a smile on her face. "Why does this book hold so much power?" Whoever signs 'this book' first at the final checkpoint will win the cash prize of £20,000.
