Fresno State then won the if-necessary game of the regional 5-1 to advance. Fresno State lost Game 1 of the Tempe Super Regional to Arizona State, before winning back-to-back games against the Sun Devils on the road to reach the CWS. It later took Fresno State three games to win the national championship series, as well, as the Bulldogs faced elimination four times in the NCAA tournament. The Bulldogs beat Rice 17-5 and North Carolina 5-3 to reach the semifinals, where they lost to North Carolina 4-3 before winning 6-1 to make the national championship series. Seven-run second lifts ORU past Jackrabbits
OMAHA, Neb. (SDSU) — Top-seeded Oral Roberts scored seven times in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back in an 11-2 victory over South Dakota State in the opening round of the Summit League Baseball Championship Wednesday afternoon at Tal Anderson Field. The Golden Eagles improved to 35-20 overall and will face the winner between Wednesday's late game between North Dakota State and Omaha at 6 p.m. Thursday. SDSU dropped to 16-35 on the season and will face the NDSU-Omaha loser in an elimination game at noon Thursday. ORU sent 11 batters to the plate in the second inning. Makani Tanaka started the outburst with a base hit off Jackrabbit starter Arlen Peters, which was followed by an error. Owen Coil doubled in the first two runs of the frame and Wailele Kane-Yates capped the rally with a three-run home run to left field. The other runs scored on a bases-loaded walk to Will Edmunson and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cooper Combs. Ty Madison followed with 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Jackrabbits before the Golden Eagles added three more runs in the fifth — two of which were unearned — and a run on four walks in the seventh inning to build an 11-0 advantage. Meanwhile, ORU starter Easton Teel kept the Jackrabbits scoreless through the first seven innings and did not allow more than one baserunner in any of those innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked one batter. The Jackrabbits ended Teel's shutout bid with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth. West Virginia commit Treysen Eaglestaff withdraws from 2025 NBA draft North Dakota junior transfer Treysen Eaglestaff will reportedly withdraw from the 2025 NBA draft and return to school next season, according to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68. Eaglestaff was named to the All-Summit League second team this past season, averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals on 35.9% shooting from 3-point range. He ranked second in the conference in points (623) and third in 3s (84). The 6-foot-6 guard set a Summit League tournament record with 51 points on March 7 in a win over South Dakota State. He was the first player to score at least 50 points in a game since Houston Baptist guard Darius Lee had 52 points on March 5, 2022. Eaglestaff entered the transfer portal last month while also declaring for the draft. He was among the 106 players who filed as early entry candidates for the draft and attended one team workout with the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this month. He initially committed to South Carolina after a brief time in the portal. He eventually changed course and opted to play for new coach Ross Hodge and West Virginia after three years with the Fighting Hawks, a pact that was announced on April 22. Eaglestaff will now be able to move to the Big 12 and continue his career. He projects to be a key addition for the Mountaineers as they begin a new era under Hodge.
