Texans set up for joint practice with Lions in upcoming preseason
According to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan M. Alexander, the Texans will meet up for a joint battle with the Detroit Lions ahead of their preseason matchup in August at Ford Field. Houston will now have two joint practices this preseason, including one against the Carolina Panthers at NRG Stadium ahead of the August 16 showdown.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed the report following the first day of voluntary OTA workouts.
"We get to do it in a competitive environment where you're not getting down on the quarterbacks," Ryans said Wednesday. "It's the safest way. I feel like we can get really good work for our starters. I'm excited to go up against the Lions."
Houston and Detroit met on primetime last November for a Week 10 showdown at NRG Stadium. Jared Goff tossed five interceptions, but C.J. Stroud's two costly turnovers in the second elevated the Lions to a 26-23 victory on Sunday Night Football.

The Texans last year hosted a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams ahead of their final preseason showdown. The year before, Houston hosted a pair of joint practices against the Miami Dolphins ahead of the matchup at NRG Stadium.
The Texans also have preseason matchups against the Minnesota Vikings on the road, though nothing is scheduled for a one-day practice between the two sides.
Houston begins the regular season on the road against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 7.

Watch: Vikings' Donovan Jackson lays out two Patriots defenders in practice
The Vikings revamped their offensive line this offseason, and they used their first-round draft pick to complete the overhaul. They signed Ryan Kelly and Will Fries, then drafted Donovan Jackson to give them three new faces on the interior offensive line. Of course, like anytime you have a new group together, there can be growing pains. His NFL debut against the Texans included a PFF grade of 55.9 and just 12 snaps played, so joint practices this week with the Patriots will be critical. Needless to say, he kicked things off with a bang based on the film that got out on one play. Jackson showcased this ability to be a mover in college while at Ohio State. Anytime a team can add a college offensive lineman who can be a lead blocker like that, it is an invaluable asset. For the Vikings, and the way they like to run the ball in zone concepts, this is a prime example of why he is just going to get better with time for Minnesota.

Tua Tagovailoa: We didn't have the energy we're used to in practice with Lions
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel dismissed Lions linebacker Grant Stuard's musings about the Dolphins not being able to match his team's intensity in a joint practice as 'noise,' but one member of McDaniel's team feels there was a lack of juice on their side on Wednesday. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa called it 'a very frustrating day in regards to what we wanted to do' and was then asked to expand upon the things that frustrated him during the session. 'Some of the frustrating things like I said were we couldn't get ourselves jumpstarted as an offense,' Tagovailoa said, via a transcript from the team. 'We couldn't gain that momentum to where, OK, all we needed was one play and then jumpstart the offense whether it was move the ball, whether it was one of the third down team periods, another team period, red zone. It just felt like we didn't have the energy that we're used to when we practice and when we play against opponents, so that's what I'm talking about when I talk about it was frustrating today.' Tagovailoa's comments focused on the offense, but the Dolphins defense had a hard time as well and the entire team failed to met the standard they needed to reach against an NFC contender. They have a chance to show that they can find the right level on Thursday and another rough day won't do much to support McDaniel's shrug at the notion that his team doesn't have the right intensity across their roster.
