Andy Halliday sparks major Celtic debate and claims top man is undervalued by fans
Andy Halliday claims Reo Hatate is underappreciated by Celtic fans and warned: "You won't realise what you had until he's gone". Hatate has been at his sizzling best in recent weeks, following up his brace against Kilmarnock with a hat-trick of assists in the 5-0 Hampden thrashing of St Johnstone . The Japan star, 27, has often split opinion amongst the Parkhead faithful, with some supporters criticising the playmaker for blowing hot and cold. But Motherwell ace Halliday reckons Hatate is in a league of his own in Scotland and believes he deserves more respect from Hoops fans. Asked who his top performer of the weekend was, Halliday told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "I'm giving it to the best midfielder in the league, Reo Hatate. "He's so undervalued and so underappreciated from Celtic fans to be honest with you. "He's one of the players that I don't think they'll appreciate until he's gone and I thought he was outstanding at the weekend. "I thought he was so involved in everything good that Celtic did and he leaves the pitch with three assists. "The only thing that his performance was missing and that he would probably have deserved as well was a goal." Hatate was named in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year as part of a midfield trio along with Celtic skipper Callum McGregor and Rangers maestro Nico Raskin. Serial-winner McGregor is widely regarded as one of - if not the best - players in Scotland. But ex-Rangers man Halliday says Hatate is a class above. He said: "Listen, it's a good argument because they are two fantastic players. Callum McGregor has been doing it for so long, so it's very hard to argue that due to the period of time that he's been dominating that midfield area. "For me, I don't think anyone else in Celtic's team can do what Reo Hatate does, and I don't think there's an attribute that he doesn't have. "I think he's so industrious off the ball and on the ball he's so good in tight areas. He'll run in behind, he's unselfish, he can score a goal from outside the box, he makes darts to the back post from inside the box. "Callum McGregor's been somebody who has been such a great servant for Celtic. He does that deep-lying midfielder role so well, which has not always been his position. "But what I think he does very well when he plays that role is that he's still so proactive and willing to get forward to join attacks. "It's a decent argument between both but I'm still edging towards Hatate."

However, the club announced the decision to cut the deal short. They wrote on social media: "Vasco da Gama announces that, in a friendly manner, it has reached an agreement to terminate the contract with midfielder Dimitri Payet early. "The club thanks the athlete for the professionalism, dedication and respect demonstrated throughout his time at Sao Januario, and wishes him success in his next challenges. "For Vasco, Payet played 77 matches, scored eight goals and contributed 16 assists. "Thank you, Payet. This is Vasco." Payet hit headlines in April when his ex-lover alleged he subjected her to "physical, moral, psychological and sexual violence" during a seven-month affair. The "lonely" married footballer was accused of forcing Larissa Ferrari to film degrading videos, SunSport revealed. Brazilian lawyer Ferrari, 28, also said the former French international Payet made her partake in a fake wedding and wear a ring to 'prove her love'. Callum Osmand can be Celtic punisher as Marco Silva gives Brendan Rodgers the key to unlock potential
Osmand is set to join the Premiership champions from Fulham as the Hoops take advantage of cross border transfers yet again Marco Silva has told Celtic how to get the best out of incoming new signing Callum Osmand. The Fulham starlet is set to follow in Moussa Dembele 's footsteps and make the move from Craven Cottage to Parkhead as the Premiership champions once again take advantage of cross border transfers for Under 21 payers. They will land the 19-year-old for training compensation and the Welsh youth international is understood to have already completed his Hoops medical. Cottagers boss Marco Silva rates Osmand highly, and promoted him to train with the first team and take his place on the bench towards the end of last season, although he wasn't given an English Premier League run out. And if the Portuguese's comments on Osmand are anything to go by, he will be disappointed to lose him, although the reason for leaving is exactly what Silva said the youngster needed after bringing him into the top team fold at Fulham. And he reckons a strike partner will allow Brendan Rodgers to see Osmand at his full potential further down the line. 'It's not his first time he's been with us," said Silva towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign. "Last season, he had some sessions with us, pre-season too, and the beginning of the season. "He is much more mobile [than a traditional centre forward], let's see if he is going to have a chance or not to play some minutes, but he is going to have a chance to train much more with us, to be much more involved with the first team. 'He needs more senior football in his legs to see how he can adapt, perform. He's got the profile that I like. When he has a chance, he can punish the opposition. "I can see the talent, in a position that is very difficult to play in the Premier League. Probably if you play another striker by his side … you will take the best from him. Let's hope we can help him to be ready for the Premier League.'

Man Utd 'agree deal' for popular star to stay after nine Old Trafford exits
Manchester United have already announced a number of Old Trafford exits this summer but could soon see an out-of-contract start extend his stay at the club under Ruben Amorim Manchester United have agreed a deal to extend Tom Heaton's stay at the club, according to reports. The 39-year-old goalkeeper has made just three appearances for the Red Devils in a four-season spell. Heaton's contract is set to expire at the end of the month but the parties are set to agree an extension of a further year in the coming days. The shot-stopper is seen as a 'highly valued part of the goalkeeping group and wider squad'. United have already announced the exits of senior stars Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof at the close of their contracts this summer. The club confirmed on Monday that they were in talks with Heaton over a fresh deal. The Old Trafford side also announced the departure of academy players however. Hubert Graczyk, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, Tom Myles, James Nolan and Tom Wooster have all been released. Heaton is in his second spell with United having come through the club's academy. The veteran went on loan to Swindon Town, Royal Antwerp, Cardiff City, Queen's Park Rangers, Rochdale and Wycombe Wanderers before departing the club to join Cardiff in 2010. The goalkeeper made his name in a stint with Burnley between 2013 and 2019 and made 200 appearaces. After a two-season stay at Aston Villa, Heaton returned to United in 2021. A coaching position has been touted for the ex-Clarets star and that is said to be a long-term option. For now Heaton's services are deemed to be required around the squad in a goalkeeping group that includes Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir. Last summer, Heaton was called upon by England boss Gareth Southgate during the Three Lions' campaign at Euro 2024 in Germany. The veteran was tasked with being a training goalkeeper to assist Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale and Dean Henderson. Speaking after extending his deal by a single year last July, Heaton revealed he was relishing his role at the club. "I am delighted to continue my stay at my boyhood club," Heaton told club media. "I still feel in great shape and I am ready to offer whatever the squad needs throughout the season ahead. "In addition to on the pitch, I'm learning so much off it for my next steps, whatever that may be. But, first and foremost, I want to push the squad to build on our successes from last season."
