Timberwolves Doctor Gets Honest About Ant's NFL Potential

Yahoo03-05-2025

Anthony Edwards has always been a superb athlete. He is a fantastic basketball player but was always a two-sport person. During his youth football days, he was one of Georgia's best running backs but moved to basketball full-time because it "looked more fun."
Now that he is one of basketball's best players, he has always entertained the idea of trying out football again, possibly in the NFL. He always believes in his ability to play football, and now, a Timberwolves doctor thinks he can also do it.

Edwards has been extremely successful in his basketball career. He was the #1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and through the years, he has beaten some all-time greats in the Playoffs.

He is only 23, so the future is extremely bright. However, that might include a foray into football, a goal he has talked about multiple times through the years. Ant is focused on basketball, but that idea is always in his mind.

Edwards Has The Physical Traits To Become An NFL Player
Ant is one of the NBA's most gifted athletes. His jumping ability is his most popular asset because of his highlight dunks. However, he also has immense strength and absurd quickness. Those are two traits required to play in the NFL, which Javair Gillet thinks Edwards could translate into football.

Gillet is the Timberwolves' vice president of sports science and performance. If anyone wants to ignore his comments, they are making a mistake because he has the authority to know this.
"I like to use a transferrable strength index, this is multiple variables that then translates into the court. Anthony is above and beyond at the top," Gillet said on Edwards' Year Five YouTube series. "He jokes around he could play football, but I believe if he trains specifically for that sport. Why? Because he has good hips."
Edwards is one of the league's hard workers. He might draw headlines for having fun, but he has always worked hard in the weight room, getting shots up at the training facility, and watching game film to learn more. He is dedicated to basketball, which makes his football future unlikely, but he will always love his first sport.
Edwards Will Remain Focused On The Task At Hand
Despite all the noise surrounding his potential football future, Ant is focused on helping the Timberwolves succeed. He is now the team's leader after the Karl-Anthony Towns trade, and the team has done well because of it.
Everyone within the Timberwolves organization appreciates what Ant has done. He will keep doing it because he is set to stay with the team for a long time.

They are currently in the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs after beating the mighty Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. Edwards deserves his flowers for what he has done so far, and he will not stop anytime soon. His football dreams are still there, but it might take a while before they materialize for him.

Fans Worried for Travis Hunter After New Video Surfaces

Travis Hunter has already hit the practice field for the Jacksonville Jaguars after being selected No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. He participated in rookie minicamp from May 9–11 and began OTA offseason workouts with the team on Monday. Hunter, a two-way player, entered the draft nearly at the top of draft boards because of his ability to play both sides of the ball at the highest level. The former Colorado Buffaloes standout was selected seven picks ahead of the first true wide receiver, Tetairoa McMillan, who went to the Carolina Panthers. Advertisement On Monday, footage of both Hunter and McMillan was posted side by side, showing their experiences with their new teams so far. Despite not running the same route, McMillan's route looked crisper, and Hunter struggled to come out of his break. Fans who saw the post headed to the replies and shared their worries for Hunter. "Worried about Travis," one wrote. "That was horrible by Travis," a fan said. "Quickly Realizing that The NFL isn't like college. It's good he realizes this now." "One guy is a WR that's played WR his whole career, one guy is an athlete trying to play WR," another wrote. "It's pretty obvious and I swear it's not a knock on Travis. Travis was able to get away with a lot of (expletive) in college bc it's college, that (expletive) won't fly in the league I promise you that." Advertisement "lol but remember they said tmac is not WR1…," added another. "Gotta learn them routes bro bro," said a fan. "It's the jaguars organizations fault. They just turn good players into bad one once drafted," a fan added. Jaguars Rookie Travis Hunter Reacts to Madden NFL 26 Rating

Jaguars Rookie Travis Hunter Reacts to Madden NFL 26 Rating originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Jacksonville Jaguars made a splash during the NFL Draft, landing talented dual-threat player Travis Hunter. He's preparing for a big debut, and fans are hoping for stellar contributions from him en route to an improved season. Advertisement Meanwhile, one of the exciting facets of football players making it to the NFL is seeing themselves as a playable character in the popular Madden NFL game. The numerical ratings assigned to each player in the game often become hot debates as players agree or disagree, and look to improve. Hunter will appear in the upcoming game, but the rookie wide receiver has what some might consider a subpar rating. However, the former Jackson State and Colorado star's reaction is the sort of response Jaguars fans are likely to eat right up before his season officially begins. Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Travis HunterCorey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images According to SI's Ben Armendariz, Hunter said he's unconcerned about debuting with a 76 in the video game. With a big smile, he said he's more interested in focusing on the real game. Advertisement Although he's unfazed by the initial Madden rating he received, the good news is that number can improve throughout his rookie season. All players are regularly monitored by individuals who help determine whether their ratings rise or fall. For comparison, Madden NFL 25's highest-rated rookies were Marvin Harrison Jr. and Joe Alt. Both players debuted in the video game with 79, so Hunter isn't far off from them whatsoever. Jacksonville's rookie receiver is already entering the league with some lofty expectations, as the Jaguars traded up to the No. 2 spot in the NFL Draft to get him. As Travis Hunter shows what he's truly capable of on the field, it shouldn't be long before his skills and stats boost those Madden ratings even higher. Charles Barkley Takes Shot At Knicks After Firing Tom Thibodeau

Charles Barkley Takes Shot At Knicks After Firing Tom Thibodeau originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After defeating the defending champion Boston Celtics in six games, Tom Thibodeau and the New York Knicks saw their season come to an end in the Eastern Conference finals, falling to the Indiana Pacers. Advertisement Thibodeau joined the Knicks in 2020 and has made it to the NBA playoffs in four of his five seasons there. However, despite the recent success, New York elected to part ways with Thibodeau following its elimination. The Knicks have looked into interviewing four current NBA head coaches, including the Dallas Mavericks' Jason Kidd, the Minnesota Timberwolves' Chris Finch, the Houston Rockets' Ime Udoka and the Atlanta Hawks' Quin Snyder. However, according to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Hawks became the fourth team to deny the Knicks an interview, leaving New York empty-handed to begin its coaching search. Outside of these four potential candidates, New York hasn't revealed much of a plan going forward without Thibodeau. And NBA legend Charles Barkley does not approve. NBA analyst Charles Barkley criticized the New York Jairaj-Imagn Images On Wednesday, Barkley joined ESPN for its pregame coverage of Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The former Phoenix Suns forward was not pleased with New York's coaching decision, calling them out live on air. Advertisement "The Knicks gotta be the stupidest damn people in the world," Barkley said. "Like, you don't fire a good coach like that and don't have a plan. I mean, Thibs did a hell of a job. Obviously, something's going on there, but you don't have a plan, and now, the three coaches turn you down. You gotta have a plan, man. And they don't have a plan. Now... I mean, I don't know what the hell they are going to do." Although Thibodeau hasn't won an NBA championship as a head coach, he has still put together an impressive coaching resume. He won two NBA Coach of the Year awards and even led the Knicks to their first conference finals in 25 years.
