Anthony Edwards Announces Exciting News on Friday
Anthony Edwards arrived in Minnesota as the No. 1 pick in 2020 after a sensational freshman year at Georgia. In his lone season with the Bulldogs, he averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game, earning SEC Freshman of the Year honors. On Friday, Edwards unleashed a big statement via Instagram, showcasing the latest episode of his "Year Five" documentary series on YouTube, with the caption, 'We back again jack. Year Five Episode 4 out now. Check my Linkme in my bio.' While the post itself was brief, its timing spoke volumes. The episode comes out less than 48 hours after the Timberwolves closed out the Los Angeles Lakers in five games, punching their ticket to the Western Conference semifinals. Advertisement His 27.6 points per game led the Timberwolves to a 49-33 record in 2024-25 and the No. 6 seed in the NBA playoffs. In the playoffs, Edwards raised his game further, pouring in 43 points in Game 4 and helping orchestrate the closeout in Game 5, where Minnesota prevailed 103-96 on the road. Timberwolves Doctor Gets Honest About Ant's NFL Potential
Anthony Edwards has always been a superb athlete. He is a fantastic basketball player but was always a two-sport person. During his youth football days, he was one of Georgia's best running backs but moved to basketball full-time because it "looked more fun." Now that he is one of basketball's best players, he has always entertained the idea of trying out football again, possibly in the NFL. He always believes in his ability to play football, and now, a Timberwolves doctor thinks he can also do it. Credit: Bruce Kluckhohn-Imagn Images Edwards has been extremely successful in his basketball career. He was the #1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and through the years, he has beaten some all-time greats in the Playoffs. Advertisement He is only 23, so the future is extremely bright. However, that might include a foray into football, a goal he has talked about multiple times through the years. Ant is focused on basketball, but that idea is always in his mind. His jumping ability is his most popular asset because of his highlight dunks. However, he also has immense strength and absurd quickness. Those are two traits required to play in the NFL, which Javair Gillet thinks Edwards could translate into football. Advertisement Gillet is the Timberwolves' vice president of sports science and performance. If anyone wants to ignore his comments, they are making a mistake because he has the authority to know this. "I like to use a transferrable strength index, this is multiple variables that then translates into the court. Anthony is above and beyond at the top," Gillet said on Edwards' Year Five YouTube series. "He jokes around he could play football, but I believe if he trains specifically for that sport. Why? Because he has good hips." Edwards is one of the league's hard workers. He might draw headlines for having fun, but he has always worked hard in the weight room, getting shots up at the training facility, and watching game film to learn more. He is dedicated to basketball, which makes his football future unlikely, but he will always love his first sport. Edwards Will Remain Focused On The Task At Hand Despite all the noise surrounding his potential football future, Ant is focused on helping the Timberwolves succeed. He is now the team's leader after the Karl-Anthony Towns trade, and the team has done well because of it. Everyone within the Timberwolves organization appreciates what Ant has done. He will keep doing it because he is set to stay with the team for a long time. Advertisement They are currently in the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs after beating the mighty Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. Edwards deserves his flowers for what he has done so far, and he will not stop anytime soon. His football dreams are still there, but it might take a while before they materialize for him. Wheelhouse Entertainment's Courtney White on How Streaming Has Changed Unscripted TV
When Courtney White started working at HGTV in 2005, the standard episode order for a new series was no less than 65 episodes. Today, as the president of Wheelhouse Entertainment, White is tasked with juggling a busy portfolio of unscripted series for broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. As White explains on the latest episode of Variety podcast 'Strictly Business,' the days of getting double-digit episode orders for even the most successful series are long past. More from Variety NBA All-Star Anthony Edwards Launches Sports Docuseries 'Year Five' With Wheelhouse (EXCLUSIVE) Wheelhouse Entertainment Promotes Courtney White to President, Glenn Hugill to Chief Creative Officer and Head of Wheelhouse Studios Jimmy Kimmel's Kimmelot Banner Exits Out of Brent Montgomery's Wheelhouse 'The reality, which is a harsh one for the business, is there are very few really high-volume shows anymore,' White says. 'So it really is about the six- or eight-episode order. That that is the norm.' White details the structure of Wheelhouse Entertainment, part of Brent Montgomery's Wheelhouse group, where she oversees seven busy production labels that are experts in specific genres and sub-genres of production. It allows Wheelhouse to make the most of each title that flows through the company. A TV series is no longer just a series but a concept that can be built out as a documentary, a podcast, a digital extension, merchandise and e-commerce and more. Among Wheelhouse's latest offerings are the Netflix series 'Million Dollar Secret' and Hulu's 'Got to Get Out.' 'We think of ourselves as the Avengers. We've got specialists in all of those sub genres, and they share resources. Our digital teams support all of those labels,' White says. 'Those digital teams are really charged with building out the content from a vertical standpoint, but then we also have things like our legal and our production management team that is centralized. The idea is that the labels all areare quite specific and they're scrappy and really development focused. And when they get series up and running, they plug into our centralized machine. And our centralized machine is also quite scrappy, because we find every project is bespoke and needs a specialty team.' White spent 17 years as a top programming executive for Food Network and HGTV. She joined the Wheelhouse group in 2022 when she stepped down as president of Food Network in advance of the merger that created Warner Bros. Discovery. White also explains why Wheelhouse has invested significant resources to host networking events — dubbed 'Ladies Who Launch' — for creatives in New York, L.A. and other cities. In a world where most pitches now take place on Zoom, Wheelhouse wants to create that environment of spontaneous chit-chat that sometimes leads to huge breakthroughs. 'When you now pitch an idea on Zoom, it's a very controlled half hour pitch. You pitch the idea, then you click off. And what executives and producers say a lot is that [traditionally], the real business didn't get done in that pitch. It used to be that time when you'd walk to the elevator. That's when something unplanned happened,' she says. 'So many shows were birthed that way, and so this is about bringing people together who might not otherwise intermingle, and it's about the magic of collaboration.' Nick Sirianni on contract extension: These things take care of themselves
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni went from sitting on a hot seat last year to sitting on the throne this year and the timing of that change was well timed from a contractual perspective. Sirianni is headed into the final year of the deal he signed when he was hired by the Eagles in 2021 and winning the Super Bowl is the compelling argument a coach can make for a new pact. No extension has come together to this point in the offseason, but Sirianni expressed little concern about the pace while speaking to reporters at the league meetings on Tuesday. 'These things will take care of themselves,' Sirianni said, via Eliot Shorr-Parks of WIP. 'I'm not too concerned about it. I don't really get into contracts with anybody. I'm not going to get into it on this one. It will take care of itself.' There have been some ups and downs in Sirianni's four seasons as a head coach, but he's won a Super Bowl and another NFC title while making the playoffs all four years. Given those results, it's easy to understand Sirianni's lack of stress about getting a new deal before Year Five is underway.

Mike McDaniel: If you're not feeling heat on the seat, you have the wrong urgency
The Dolphins missed the playoffs in 2024 for the first time since head coach Mike McDaniel joined the team and that's led to some conversation about his job security heading into his fourth season in Miami. During a session with reporters from the league meetings in Palm Beach on Monday, McDaniel was asked about those discussions and said he is not altering his approach to the job because of any perceived uptick in scrutiny due to the team's performance in 2024. 'If we won two more games does that make me a different coach?' McDaniel said, via Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. 'I think it's important for me to do my job the right way. That I never look at any sort of entitlement. . . . Every year, to me, if you're not feeling heat on the seat, you have the wrong urgency. It should be that way every year. This is not my gift. It's an incredible responsibility that I only sign up for because I believe I'm the best person suited for.' McDaniel called coaching security 'the fastest changing world in sports' while noting that Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was on a very hot seat at this time last year. That came after Sirianni had already taken the Eagles to a Super Bowl and McDaniel might need at least a playoff win in order to be back for Year Five.
