Top Wall Street analysts recommend these dividend stocks for steady income

CNBC3 days ago
The Trump administration's fluctuating trade policies add uncertainty into the economy, but investors seeking stable income can look at dividend stocks to bolster their portfolios.
To this end, the recommendations of top Wall Street analysts can help investors pick the dividend stocks that support consistent payments.
Here are three dividend-paying stocks, highlighted by Wall Street's top pros, as tracked by TipRanks, a platform that ranks analysts based on their past performance
The first dividend-paying company in this week's list is energy giant Chevron (CVX). The company recently delivered market-beating earnings for the second quarter. However, earnings declined compared to the prior-year quarter due to lower oil prices. Meanwhile, Chevron expects the recently completed Hess deal to begin contributing to its earnings in the fourth quarter of this year.
In Q2, Chevron returned $5.5 billion of cash to shareholders via share repurchases of $2.6 billion and dividends of $2.9 billion. CVX stock offers a dividend yield of 4.4%.
Following the Q2 print, Morgan Stanley analyst Devin McDermott resumed coverage of Chevron stock with a buy rating and a price target of $174. TipRanks' AI Analyst also has an "outperform" rating on CVX stock with a price target of $171.
McDermott highlighted Chevron's Q2 earnings beat. The analyst said that the recent closing of the Hess acquisition removes a major overhang and strengthens CVX's business. The Hess deal is expected to enhance Chevron's growth and portfolio duration.
Additionally, the 5-star analyst noted that while Chevron has lagged peer Exxon Mobil (XOM) in recent years, the Hess deal, along with the Tengizchevroil (TCO) project and cost-cutting measures, is expected to close the gap on growth, at least over the next 2 to 3 years. "With a ~$12.5B cash flow inflection underway, CVX's 2026 FCF [free cash flow] yield of 8% compares to XOM at 6% and COP at 7%," said McDermott.
McDermott ranks No. 406 among more than 9,900 analysts tracked by TipRanks. His ratings have been profitable 59% of the time, delivering an average return of 11.6%. See Chevron Statistics on TipRanks.
We move to Rithm Capital (RITM), an asset manager with significant experience in managing credit and real estate assets. The company recently announced better-than-expected second-quarter results. Rithm Capital paid a dividend of 25 cents per share for the second quarter of 2025. At an annualized dividend of $1 per share, RITM stock offers a dividend yield of 8.2%.
Reacting to the Q2 performance, RBC Capital analyst Kenneth Lee raised his price forecast on Rithm Capital stock to $14 from $13 while reaffirming a buy rating. In comparison, TipRanks' AI Analyst has a "neutral" rating on RITM stock.
The top-rated analyst noted that Rithm Capital reported Q2 2025 earnings available for distribution (EAD) of 54 cents per share, surpassing RBC and the Street's consensus estimate of 52 cents. Given the strong results, Lee raised his EAD per share estimate for 2025 to $2.24 from $2.21. He also raised his 2026 EAD per share estimate to $2.30 from $2.27.
"We favor RITM as it pivots towards being an alternative investment manager, with a fee-based, capital-light business model, over time," said Lee.
Based on management's comments, Lee noted that Rithm might not spin off or list its Newrez business and would rather focus on growing the earnings stream within the business. He views RITM's renewed focus on growth and ROE (return on equity) enhancement positively. Lee also highlighted that Rithm Capital is seeing notable cost benefits through the implementation of initiatives related to artificial intelligence.
Lee ranks No. 22 among more than 9,900 analysts tracked by TipRanks. His ratings have been successful 74% of the time, delivering an average return of 18.7%. See Rithm Capital Hedge Fund Activity on TipRanks.
Finally, let's look at telecom giant AT&T (T). The company delivered better-than-anticipated second-quarter earnings, topping market expectations for wireless postpaid subscriber additions. AT&T offers a quarterly dividend of $0.2775 per share. At an annualized dividend of $1.11 per share, AT&T's dividend yield stands at about 4%.
In reaction to the Q2 results, RBC Capital analyst Jonathan Atkin reiterated a buy rating on AT&T stock with a price target of $31. In comparison, TipRanks' AI Analyst has a "neutral" rating with a price target of $30.
Atkin explained that AT&T's Q2 revenue beat was driven by higher-than-expected Wireless equipment revenues. Furthermore, adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization) exceeded expectations, thanks to the strength in the company's Wireline business, which offset softer Wireless profits.
The analyst noted that AT&T's revised 2025 guidance reflects cash tax benefits, the improved trajectory of the Wireline business, and a more competitive Wireless backdrop. Atkin added that the company's free cash flow outlook was revised to the low-to-mid $16 billion range compared to the previous guidance of more than $16 billion, which implies that most of the cash tax benefit will be reinvested into fiber capex and pension funding.
The 5-star analyst stated that while estimates for revenue, EBITDA, and EPS for 2026 and 2027 remain unchanged, AT&T's free cash flow outlook was increased by $1 billion for both years to reflect cash tax benefits, net of incremental investments. Atkin stated that he supports management's decision to prioritize capital investments that are expected to drive long-term growth, and "highlight the company's traction in switching off legacy networks."
Atkin ranks No. 234 among more than 9,900 analysts tracked by TipRanks. His ratings have been successful 67% of the time, delivering an average return of 11.3%. See AT&T Insider Trading Activity on TipRanks.

Trump's 401(k) expansion order: What new investment options will be available?

President Donald Trump's executive order directing financial regulators to include alternative investments in retirement plans like 401(k) funds could change the makeup of Americans' investment portfolios. Trump signed the executive order on Thursday, and the White House provided a fact sheet directing the Labor Department to reconsider its guidance on alternative assets in 401(k) and defined-contribution retirement plans. Additionally, the agency will work with the Treasury Department and Securities and Exchange Commission to determine whether regulatory changes are needed to carry out the purpose of the order. The order defines "alternative assets" as applying to private market investments; direct or indirect real estate interests, commodities and infrastructure projects; digital assets held in actively managed investment vehicles; and longevity risk-sharing pools. Federal regulators will have to go through the rulemaking process, meaning that the new investment options may not be available until 2026. Broadening the types of assets that can be held in 401(k) and similar retirement plans offers new investment opportunities for those saving for retirement – though the new asset classes can experience more volatility than other investment categories and thus should be approached with caution as investors consider the best way to diversify their portfolios. Trump Signs Order To Open 401(K)s To Private Markets: What It Means For Your Retirement "Private investments in 401(k) plans have the potential to improve participant outcomes by providing individuals access to the same range of investments as professional institutional investors, which seek to provide enhanced long-term returns and added diversification," said Ari Jacobs, global head of investments at Aon, following the announcement. Read On The Fox Business App "Implementation of these solutions requires thoughtful and robust analysis of key factors such as manager skill, fees, liquidity and valuation." "Interest among plan sponsors in private investment options that includes private credit, private equity, infrastructure and real estate continues to grow," Jacobs said, adding that the industry has made "significant progress in developing these solutions" to meet the needs of defined contribution plans. How Should You Handle Your 401(K) Or Ira During Market Volatility? Peter von Lehe, head of investment solutions for Neuberger Berman, said the firm believes "including private markets in professionally managed retirement products, such as target date funds, allows for prudent exposure to alternatives – potentially enhancing returns and diversification – without requiring individual investors to manage the complexities or liquidity constraints themselves." He said the firm's research suggests that a 10% private equity allocation to a target date fund would meaningfully improve the fund's risk-return profile, boosting wealth accumulation at retirement with a larger annuity stream to increase retirement income. "Private market investments are not suitable for every investor due to their illiquidity and complexity, but a professionally managed allocation can help ensure suitability and support stronger long-term outcomes for plan participants," he added. Social Security Confidence Hits 15-Year Low As Younger Americans Increasingly Lose Faith In System Leanna Haakons, financial commentator and president of Black Hawk Financial, told FOX Business the change "begins to put everyday retirement savers on the same playing field as institutional investors, granting access to strategies and asset classes once reserved for pension funds, endowments, and ultra-high-net-worth portfolios." "Allowing the inclusion of alternative investments such as real estate, private equity, venture capital, and digital assets creates vastly expanded diversification opportunities and the potential for higher long-term returns," Haakons said. "However, investors must also contend with liquidity constraints, higher management fees, and the need for financial education and due diligence; that makes this a powerful opportunity that demands careful, informed participation," she noted. Haakons added that the actual availability of the new alternative investment options in plans is unlikely to be widely available until next year because of the regulatory processes and guidance that will have to be developed, while investment firms will have to ensure their products are compliant before they roll out to retirement plan article source: Trump's 401(k) expansion order: What new investment options will be available? Switzerland warns its companies that no, they can't dodge Trump's tariffs by routing goods through the tiny neighboring country of Liechtenstein

Switzerland and Liechtenstein have long shared an economic market, but President Donald Trump has imposed a steep tariff on Swiss goods compared to its Liechtensteiner neighbors. The Swiss government has clarified that Swiss businesses will be unable to reroute their products through the neighboring principality. The Trump administration recently implemented a 40% tariff on transshipments, or the movement of goods to an intermediate destination ostensibly with lower levies, to disincentivize this behavior. The Swiss government is telling its domestic companies that they have not, in fact, found a clever way to skirt President Donald Trump's tariffs by routing goods through the tiny neighborhood country of Liechtenstein. Switzerland and Liechtenstein share a 102-year-old customs treaty allowing the 25km-long principality to share the Swiss economic area. But that agreement, which makes it nearly impossible to measure trade between the two closely linked countries, does not mean they are tariffed similarly. While U.S. tariffs on Swiss exports swelled to 39% in Trump's latest round of tariffs, levies on goods from Liechtenstein are only 15%. The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) has said Swiss firms cannot pass off goods as Liechtensteiner by routing them through the principality because they would still be recognized as Swiss in origin. 'Such circumvention via Liechtenstein is fundamentally impossible. The United States applies its non-preferential rules of origin when levying additional tariffs,' a SECO spokesperson told Fortune in a translated email statement. 'For a product to be considered 'Liechtenstein origin,' it must either be entirely manufactured in Liechtenstein or [have] undergone sufficient processing.' Liechtenstein head of government Brigitte Haas said last week there's concern, though improbable, of Swiss companies looking to Liechtenstein for ways to dodge import taxes, but the risks are high. 'There's a fear that there might be some circumvention, but those are subject to a 40% tariff,' Haas said in an interview with Swiss outlet SRF. 'I hardly think anyone would want to go through that.' Trump's transshipment crackdown Last month, the White House imposed a 40% penalty tax on 'transshipments,' or the movement of goods to an intermediate destination, meant to disincentivize this particular behavior. The Trump administration is aware that countries with lower reciprocal tariff rates than its neighbors are incentivized to reroute their products, according to Robert Lawrence, Albert L. Williams Professor of International Trade and Investment at the Harvard Kennedy School. For years, China has used Mexico and Vietnam, among other countries, as transshipment bases prior to exporting goods to the U.S., according to a Brookings Institute report from June. These transshipments are having meaningful impacts: As China's trade surplus with the U.S. decreases, it has been completely offset by the increase in its trade surplus with other trading partners, the report found. While the transshipment penalty was meant to address China, Lawrence told Fortune, it would apply to any country engaging in the behavior—despite some experts arguing the order lacks key details that would help enforce it. 'It was really important with the response to China,' Lawrence said. 'But there's always this incentive to arbitrage between countries who are close to one another but have differentiated tariff treatment.' High stakes in Switzerland With Switzerland and the U.S. failing to come to a trade agreement before the Aug. 1 deadline, Swiss companies now fear Trump's steep tariffs could roil domestic businesses, particularly in the industrial machinery, cheese, and chocolate industries. While Switzerland may rely on the U.S. as a key importer, the U.S. may be able to find suitable alternatives elsewhere, Lawrence said, putting the onus on Swiss companies to absorb the cost of tariffs in order to keep prices competitive in the U.S. market. Liechtenstein could likewise suffer, according to head of government Haas, who said last week that although the principality has stopped trade negotiations with the U.S. and accepted the 15%, Switzerland's economic health could waver and impact Liechtenstein, which counts Switzerland as its domestic market. Haas also said many Liechtensteiner products don't list Liechtenstein as their certified place of origin, leaving uncertainty about how explicit the U.S. was in outlining the reciprocal tariffs for the principality. U.S. consumers could meanwhile begin to feel the impacts of these steep reciprocal tariffs, responding differently to the alternatives available from other countries, should Swiss imports no longer be as readily available or affordable. For example, according to Lawrence, U.S. consumers may now buy more Cadbury chocolate from the UK—where tariffs sit at 10%—despite not finding the product as appealing as Swiss chocolates, but because it's theoretically cheaper and more abundant. But these ramifications are about more than just chocolate. 'There's going to be a lot of inefficiency,' Lawrence said. 'Americans are going to buy inferior products.' Coffee prices have seen strength since last Wednesday when Brazil's Trade Ministry reported that Brazil's July unroasted coffee exports fell -20.4% y/y to 161,000 MT. In related bullish news released today, Brazil's green coffee exports in July fell -28% y/y to 2.4 million bags, according to exporter group Cecafe. Cecafe said July arabica exports fell -21% y/y, while robusta exports plunged -49% y/y. Total July coffee exports fell -28% to 2.7 million bags. Coffee shipyments during Jan-July fell -21% to 22.2 million bags. Meanwhile, Sep robusta coffee today soared to a 2-month high, driven in part by short-covering after the steep sell-off seen in May-July. A decline in ICE coffee inventories is supporting arabica prices, as ICE-monitored arabica inventories fell to a 14.75-month low of 737,526 bags on Tuesday. Also, ICE robusta coffee inventories fell to a 2-week low on Monday of 6,976 lots, down from the 1-year high of 7,029 lots posted on July 28. The coffee market is awaiting clarity on US tariff policies, as President Trump has yet to exempt coffee from his 50% tariff on Brazilian exports. The tariff could hurt sales of Brazilian coffee to the US and boost Brazil's coffee inventories. Above-average rainfall in Brazil eases dryness concerns and is a negative factor for coffee prices. Somar Meteorologia reported Monday that Brazil's largest arabica coffee-growing area, Minas Gerais, received 4.8 mm of rain during the week ended August 9, or 109% of the historical average. The ongoing Brazil coffee harvest is bearish for coffee prices. Safras & Mercado reported last Friday that Brazil's overall 2025/26 coffee harvest was 94% complete as of August 6, ahead of the comparable level of 92% last year. The breakdown showed that 99% of the robusta harvest and 91% of the arabica harvest were complete as of August 6. In related news, Brazil's Cooxupe coffee co-op announced Wednesday that the harvest among its members was 80.4% complete as of August 8. Cooxupe is Brazil's largest coffee cooperative and Brazil's largest exporter group. In a bearish factor, the International Coffee Organization (ICO) reported last Wednesday that global June coffee exports rose +7.3% y/y to 11.69 million bags. However, cumulative Oct-Jun coffee exports were down -0.2% y/y at 104.14 million bags. Coffee prices have retreated over the past three months on the outlook for abundant coffee supplies. Last month, arabica coffee tumbled to an 8-month low and robusta sank to a 1.25-year nearest-futures low. On June 25, the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) forecasted that Brazil's 2025/26 coffee production will increase by +0.5% y/y to 65 million bags and that Vietnam's 2025/26 coffee output will rise by 6.9% y/y to a 4-year high of 31 million bags. Brazil is the world's largest producer of arabica coffee, and Vietnam is the world's largest producer of robusta coffee. Smaller coffee exports from Brazil are positive for prices after Cecafe reported on July 16 that Brazil's total June green coffee exports fell -31% y/y to 2.3 million bags, with arabica exports down -27% y/y to 1.8 million bags and robusta exports down -42% y/y to 476,334 bags. Due to drought, Vietnam's coffee production in the 2023/24 crop year decreased by -20% y/y to 1.472 MMT, the smallest crop in four years. Also, Vietnam's General Statistics Office reported that 2024 Vietnam coffee exports fell by -17.1% y/y to 1.35 MMT. Additionally, the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association reduced its 2024/25 Vietnam coffee production estimate to 26.5 million bags on March 12, down from a December estimate of 28 million bags. By contrast, the Vietnam National Statistics Office reported Tuesday that Vietnam's Jan-Jul 2025 coffee exports were up +6.9% y/y to 1.05 MMT. The USDA's biannual report, released on June 25, was bearish for coffee prices. The USDA's Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS) projected that world coffee production in 2025/26 will increase by +2.5% y/y to a record 178.68 million bags, with a -1.7% decrease in arabica production to 97.022 million bags and a +7.9% increase in robusta production to 81.658 million bags. The USDA's FAS forecasts that 2025/26 ending stocks will climb by +4.9% to 22.819 million bags from 21.752 million bags in 2024/25. For the 2025/26 marketing year, Volcafe projects a global 2025/26 arabica coffee deficit of -8.5 million bags, wider than the -5.5 million bag deficit for 2024/25 and the fifth consecutive year of deficits.
