Saiyaara: Why Is Ahaan Panday-Aneet Padda Movie Driving Audience ‘Wild'? Is It Worth The Craze?
At a time when star-studded big-budget films have been falling flat on their faces, Saiyaara has stolen the limelight completely. Starring debutant Ahaan Panday and actress Aneet Padda, the romantic drama has become the new cultural phenomenon. Directed by seasoned filmmaker Mohit Suri and produced under the YRF banner, it is a hit with the audience, entering the 100 crore club within just four days of its release.
With its portrayal of love and heartbreak, Saiyaara has struck a chord with Gen Z audiences so much so that fans are taking their devotion to extreme, and at times bizarre, levels. However, those who are yet to watch the movie are asking just one question: What's the hype around Saiyaara? Well, there are many reasons. Let us explain it to you.
Online 'mania' that's fuelling curiosity
If you have been online since Saiyaara released theatrically on July 18, chances are that you have come across news like a young man showing up in a theatre hooked up to an IV drip. Some other viral clips showed ecstatic fans ripping off their shirts, with some dancing in front of the big screen, while another overwhelmed fan lay down on the floor. Such growing incidents have further piqued people's curiosity, compelling them to go to the theatres to see for themselves what the fuss is all about.
While such bizarre incidents occur, some people have also encountered rowdy audiences that ruined their film-watching experiences. Aman Kumar, a reporter with MensXP, watched Saiyaara in a packed single-screen theatre and shared his experience. Although he had a good start, it suddenly turned 'unpleasant" when a bunch of rowdy men decided to make inappropriate remarks and vulgar noises at a girl. He said, 'It's unfortunate that a film, no matter how entertaining, becomes inaccessible to family audiences due to the unruly behaviour of a few self-appointed cheerleaders."
Unique marketing strategy that worked
In an unexpected move, the makers of Saiyaara decided not to promote the film or introduce the newcomers through the usual promotional tactics. The skipped traditional media tours, interviews, and events, letting the visuals and soundtrack of the film do all the talking. The lead pair stayed away from the spotlight in the days leading up to the release, making everyone more curious about them. This strategy paid off, which led to an increase in anticipation surrounding Saiyaara.
Box office performance
On Day 1 alone, Saiyaara raked in a total of Rs 21.5 crore, as per Sacnilk. It is the highest opening day figure for any film directed by Mohit Suri. The film's opening weekend total stood at an impressive Rs 81 crore, the highest-ever for an Indian romantic film debut. On Day 4, which is considered a slow day at the box office, Saiyaara's magic did not die down. It collected an estimated Rs 22.50 crore on Day 4, bringing its total to Rs 105.75 crore.
Music that swooned hearts
Not just its storyline, lead pair's chemistry or box office performance, Saiyaara's soundtrack also tugged at the heartstrings of the audience. It consists of seven songs, including Faheem Abdullah's Saiyaara, Jubin Nautiyal's Barbaad, Vishal Mishra and Hansika Pareek's Tum Ho Toh, Sachet-Parampara's Humsafar and Arijit Singh's Dhun. The songs don't just sound good, but also convey the film's emotions, helping the audience connect with the story more effectively.
New actors and their undeniable chemistry
Saiyaara marks the debut of Ahaan Panday, cousin of actress Ananya Panday, in the Bollywood film industry. It is also the lead actress Aneet Padda's first major role since she entered the industry. Both the rising stars have won hearts with their honest performances. Their chemistry felt natural, emotions were believable, and their presence was fresh, as viewers noted. After seeing the lead pair in the film, some people have called Ahaan the 'best nepo actor of this generation" while tagging Aneet as the 'next national crush."
A storyline that was relatable
Spoilers Alert! Saiyaara follows the love story of Krish Kapur, a short-tempered musician, and Vaani, a shy, aspiring journalist-cum-poet. They meet, fall in love and together build a successful career for Krish. Soon, he learns that Vaani has Alzheimer's disease after some troublesome moments with her ex-boyfriend. Despite the struggles and ups and downs, the two eventually find their way back to each other and get married, marking the end of the emotional story.

Despite being a success at the box office, Saiyaara isn't devoid of controversy. After watching it, some claimed that Mohit Suri's film was heavily inspired by the Korean film, A Moment To Remember, starring Son Ye Jin and Jung Woo Sung. The primary difference between the two films is that the conflict arises before the lead pair's marriage. Moreover, the lead pairs in both films have different professions, with Saiyaara's narrative having a young pair.
And if you are still asking if Saiyaara is worth all the craze, we suggest you watch it in theatres.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma's split turned into one of the most talked-about celebrity breakups of 2025. Their court appearance where the Indian spinner walked in wearing a cheeky T-shirt that read, 'Be Your Own Sugar Daddy,' the message didn't go unnoticed. Fans were quick to connect it to his ex-wife Dhanashree, and Chahal later admitted it was his way of sending one last statement to her before closing that chapter of his life. If Chahal made headlines with his bold T-shirt, Dhanashree bore the brunt of online trolling. Netizens blamed her for the split, and many even went as far as calling her a 'gold digger.' And sometimes love is something that drives you also. I want self-love because of course, self-love, number one, you know, love yourself and then find love later. But if there is something good written for me ahead in my life, why not?' She went on to call love 'the most beautiful feeling' and admitted she's still a hopeless romantic at heart. She added, 'It is very Bollywood, all that ghanti, flowers falling on you and all of that. Who doesn't want that feeling? We all do. And we all must go through that. Everyone should have that kind of love. So yes, that's my take. I'm open into the open universe.' Comedy in three acts brings hawkers' upselling skills to stage
1 2 Pune: French writer-director Zazie Hayoun speaks of hawkers as if they are born performers. "When I was a little girl in Le Marais,a neighbourhood in Paris, the hawkers in the market were like actors. Their street calls were so melodious. They had a unique talent, they could upsell anything, and they were so jolly all the time. For me, they were artists," said Hayoun. Her fascination with hawkers found its fullest expression in "Songs of Hawkers," a 60-minute English comedy that arrives in the city for a one-night performance on Wednesday, Aug 21, at IISER Pune. Presented by Alliance Française de Pune in collaboration with Alliance Française de Dhaka, the play uses music, puppetry, clowning, dance, and Grand Guignol tradition to reimagine the lives of street vendors. Hayoun said, "I created the performance in Bangladesh, where Alliance Française gave me the facility to audition and work with actors. Earlier this week, we performed at the National School of Drama in Delhi, for an audience that ranged between 4-99 years old, and everybody thought it was an Indian production. The two countries (Bangladesh and India) are so related, with so much appreciation for Bollywood music." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune | Gold Rates Today in Pune | Silver Rates Today in Pune The play unfolds across three acts: The Secret, The Thief Rewarded, and The Competition. "The script is in broken English, Bengali, and Hindi. It is for everybody; children especially love the visual treat with all the dancing, acrobatics, clowning, and Bollywood music," she said. For Hayoun, who first came to India in 1983, the work is also indicative of her personal relationship with the country she calls her second home. "I wanted to learn everything about the country, its art, dance, theatre, and music. Thirty years on and off, I have been coming back. I had the idea long ago to make a performance with hawkers, showing how joyfully they carry out their business day in and day out. They are survivors, they make good money from small jobs, and I admire their 'jugaad'. They're always exactly where we need them," she said. The process took a year with auditions, workshops, improvisations, and recordings of real hawkers' voices for the show. "I wrote three stories, auditioned actors in Dhaka. Then I went back to Paris to develop the script and returned after a couple of months to get the show together. We kept the same set of actors. I am already thinking of making another performance with them," said Hayoun. After its staging in the city, the production will travel back to Bangladesh for shows in Dhaka and Chittagong, before heading to Paris next year. "After our Delhi show, a man from the audience asked me how I know so much about Indian culture," she recalled. "It is the same, I said. Bangladesh, India, and France, we connect through theatre," said Hayoun. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Coolie Day 6 India Box Office Estimates: Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj's movie drops further on Tuesday; Grosses Rs 9.50 crore
Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, and starring Rajinikanth, is not trending well at the box office after an exceptional extended first weekend where it grossed Rs 227.25 crore in India. The movie could have even smashed Rs 250 crore, but due to the clash with War 2 and due to mixed word of mouth, it couldn't reach its desired potential. On Monday, the movie dropped big, grossing only Rs 13 crore, almost 80 percent down from Independence Day Friday and around 85 percent down from the opening day Friday. Coolie Adds Rs 9.50 Crore Gross In India On 1st Tuesday; Cume Reaches Rs 250 Crore On its first Tuesday, Coolie ended up putting a single digit number for the first time in its run. The actioner only grossed Rs 9.50 crore, dropping almost 30 percent from an already low Monday. The total of the movie, now is at just a little under Rs 250 crore. With these kind of drops, the movie won't be able to do much more than Rs 300 crore in India. If the film got its desired word of mouth, no number would have really been small enough for it. We could have fancied even Rs 450 crore in India and Rs 700 crore worldwide. Now, the revised global target is to somehow reach Rs 500 crore but that won't be easy, seeing the drops. The Day Wise India Gross Collections Of Coolie Are As Under Coolie will still end up as one of the top 5 or top 6 highest grossing Kollywood movies of all time at the worldwide box office. It may always be looked at as a lost opportunity, but that doesn't mean that the movie is not a hit. It is very much a hit if the irrational buy prices are kept on the side. Coolie In Theatres
