Local businesses kept busy with dead batteries
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU)– After a week of freezing temperatures, many Siouxlanders have had to deal with the dreaded dead battery.
Local businesses, including a towing company, told KCAU 9 that it's been a busy week.

'Call volume has been pretty high,' said Trey Vanderschaaf, dispatch manager with Stockton Towing. 'Feb. 17 through Feb. 20, 160 jump starts and 350 tows in that three-day span,'
While Stockton Towing is able to get most people's vehicles back up and running, others aren't so lucky and end up needing to replace their battery.
'If they don't work, we do offer batteries to sell through Interstate Batteries,' Vanderschaaf said. 'We have batteries here in stock. We could offer those. If that's not an option for them, we will offer our tow service and we can get it towed to wherever they would like it to be.'
One busy business this week was Bomgaars, with employees working hard to keep the batteries stocked.
Storm Lake looking to educate community about water conservation
'We've been selling batteries left and right,' Parker Kaler with Bomgaars said. 'I mean, everybody's come in here to get a new battery or check the charger in their battery. It's been so cold, those batteries aren't keeping up with the cold. Because it's so hectic, we've been getting a lot of batteries in on the truck, so we're just keeping the shelves full, trying to keep the customers happy.'
Stockton Towing recommends drivers get their batteries checked every year due to them having a three to five-year life span.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Siouxland is entering severe weather season, so it's time to make sure you're prepared for potential hail damage. According to AAA, an average of 245,000 auto insurance claims are filed for hail damage each year, which can make it difficult for Sioux Auto Body to get your vehicle in for repairs. 'All of a sudden you have, you know, 100 people that want their car fixed, so scheduling to be difficult,' said Costa Tsiobanos, the manager of Sioux Auto Body Jake Goodin with Goodin Insurance said the first thing you need to do when your vehicle has been damaged by hail is to file a claim as soon as possible. 'Tow to Go' returns this Memorial Day 'If you do experience any type of damage, the first thing that you want to do is maybe take some photos and or videos, and the next thing would be to contact your insurance agent to set up a claim,' said Jake Goodin. Whether your hail damage repairs are covered by your insurance depends entirely on the type of policy you have. Goodin said liability coverage will not cover for the damage, but comprehensive coverage will. 'It'd be everything but collision is what it is. So, if you had a tree limb fall on your vehicle or if you had a hailstorm, that would be covered under comprehensive coverage' Therefore, Tsiobanos said people typically wait to get the check from their insurance before they get the repairs done to their vehicle. 'That way they can make sure that they get paid in full, you know, if they pay the shop up front, sometimes they can get the run around trying to collect money from the insurance company,' said Tsiobanos. 'Usually it's a catastrophic type of event. When we have large hailstorm that doesn't really impact your rates to file a claim, but, you know, with the amount of storms that we've had, rates tend to go up still,' commented Goodin. 'Typically, if it's pretty small damage, you may want to just have a roofer come out and do an inspection on it to see if it is a very large claim.' ‘Tow to Go' returns this Memorial Day
OMAHA, Neb. (KCAU) — Don't be shocked if you see AAA tow trucks this Memorial Day. AAA will be activating its Tow to Go service for the upcoming holiday. Tow to Go will be available to members and non-members in 11 states from 6 p.m. this Friday through 6 a.m. on May 27. Amongst the 11, two are here in Siouxland, Nebraska and Iowa. The other states include Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, North Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. 1 hospitalized after crash near Madison, NE
MADISON, Neb. (KCAU) — One person was taken to a hospital in Nebraska after a two vehicle crash near Madison. The Madison County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 81 and Highway 32. First responders found a vehicle blocking two southbound lanes after a Jeep reportedly crashed into the back of a semi-trailer. Authorities said the Jeep tried to avoid the trailer but overturned.
