Bob Vylan claim they're being 'targeted' after Glastonbury IDF controversy

Metro01-07-2025
Punk band Bob Vylan has issued a new statement following the launch of a police investigation into their Glastonbury set.
Taking to social media, Bobby and Bobbie Vylan claimed that they are being 'targeted for speaking up' after their comments onstage at Worthy Farm were branded antisemitic.
Their full statement issued today said: 'Today, a good many people would have you believe a punk band is the number one threat to world peace. Last week it was a Palestine pressure group, the week before that it was another band.
'We are not for the death of jews, arabs or any other race or group of people. We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine. A machine whose own soldiers were told to use 'unnecessary lethal force' against innocent civilians waiting for aid.
'A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza.
'We, like those in the spotlight before us, are not the story. We are a distraction from the story. And whatever sanctions we receive will be a distraction.
'The government doesn't want us to ask why they remain silent in the face of this atrocity? To ask why they aren't doing more to stop the killing? To feed the starving?
'The more time they talk about Bob Vylan, the less time they spend answering for their criminal inaction.
'We are being targeted for speaking up. We are not the first. We will not be the last. And if you care for the sanctity of human life and freedom of speech, we urge you to speak up too.'
They concluded by declaring: 'Free Palestine.'
While performing at Glasto this year, Bob Vylan led the crowd in chants of 'Death, death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)', which was broadcast live by the BBC.
On Monday, Avon and Somerset Police said it had launched a probe into the performance after reviewing video footage and audio recordings, with a senior detective appointed to lead the investigation.
Also under investigation is the set from Irish rap trio Kneecap, who took to the stage directly after Bob Vylan and led chants of 'Free Palestine'.
A police spokesman said: 'This has been recorded as a public order incident at this time while our inquiries are at an early stage.
'The investigation will be evidence-led and will closely consider all appropriate legislation, including relating to hate crimes.'
Meanwhile, US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau has also announced that Bob Vylan's US visas had been revoked due to 'their hateful tirade at Glastonbury'. More Trending
They are due to head over to the States in autumn for a month-long tour, supporting Grandson, an American-Canadian singer whose real name is Jordan Edward Benjamin.
Taking to his TikTok page on Sunday, Grandson himself expressed solidarity with Bob Vylan, with whom he will release a song on his upcoming album.
'I stand with Bob Vylan,' he declared defiantly.
'They will continue to be on my record, and, should their visa make it possible for them to come to America, I look forward to rocking stages across North America with my bros, Bob Vylan.'

Gregg Wallace breaks silence after Rod Stewart brands him 'tubby bully'

Gregg Wallace has responded to Rod Stewart's 'hurtful' comments against him, revealing that he is actually a big fan of the singer. MasterChef's Gregg Wallace has broken his silence after Sir Rod Stewart called him a "tubby, bald-headed, ill mannered bully". The 60-year-old initially stepped down from the franchise after the BBC announced it was looking into historical allegations of misconduct against him. ‌ He was then officially fired after the bombshell Silkins review, commissioned by MasterChef production company Banijay UK, upheld 45 allegations against him, including a case of "unwelcome physical contact". In the wake of the news that the BBC was investigating Wallace, Sir Rod alleged in a post that the scorned host had 'humiliated' his wife Penny Lancaster when she was on the show in 2021. ‌ He wrote: "So Gregg Wallace gets fired from Masterchef. Good riddance Wallace. You humiliated my wife when she was on the celebrity version of the show, but you had that bit cut out didn't you? ‌ "You're a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got ya. Sir Rod Stewart." In a new interview with The Sun, Gregg replied to the hitmaker's remarks, stating: "I'm actually a Rod Stewart fan. ‌ "I've been to see him twice. So that hurt me. Somebody like that carries a lot of weight. But there was no bullying and no harassing." Talking about Sir Rod's Instagram post on Loose Women in December, host Penny confessed: "I didn't realise my husband had sent that post out until it was out. And of course, you can imagine the influx of inquiries there were." ‌ She explained she was on jury duty at the time and didn't realise what had happened until later, saying she was left "shocked" by Rod's message. She explained: "When I did turn my phone back on I got a message from a friend saying, 'Oh my God, how amazing was that message your husband put out!' And I was like 'What message? What has he done?'." Penny explained: "I most definitely was witness and victim to some of the bullying and harassment behaviour of Gregg Wallace, and unfortunately, a lot of those involved in the production team were also witness to that. ‌ "I really feel that he used his position of power to, I believe, intimidate and cause distress to a lot of people on set." Wallace's MasterChef co-presenter John Torode followed in Wallace's footsteps after he was also axed following a report that included an accusation that he had used racist language. Wallace went on to say that he had unfollowed John and his wife Lisa Faulkner on social media, insisting that the MasterChef co-presenters "never got on that well". He added that he understands he said offensive things and that those on the receiving end were perhaps "too intimidated or nervous" to report the incidents at the time. Wallace went on to apologise to those he had upset and said he "doesn't expect sympathy".

Top three most-watched media services in UK revealed with 'traditional TV fading'

One British cultural critic has declared the broadcast age "over" with Gen Z leading the way on streaming Brits used to solely rely on the TV schedule for entertainment. If they wanted to tune into their favourite show or catch up with a soap, they would need to wait until the omnibus or re-run was shown, always at a set time. ‌ Now, kids can watch their programme of choice anytime and anywhere. Catch up on demand and iPlayer has revolutionised the nation's viewing habits - as has the rising prominence of other media services bar just TV. ‌ According to an annual Ofcom report, YouTube is now the second most-watched media service in the UK behind the BBC and ahead of ITV. ‌ In 2024, broadcast TV made up 56 per cent of in-home viewing, the regulator said, but YouTube is "leading the charge" in the streaming takeover of TV sets, with the service now the first place younger viewers go. Ed Leighton, Ofcom's interim group director for strategy and research, said: "Scheduled TV is increasingly alien to younger viewers, with YouTube the first port of call for many when they pick up the TV remote. ‌ "We're also seeing signs that older adults are turning to the platform as part of their daily media diet, too. "Public service broadcasters are recognising this shift – moving to meet audiences in the online spaces where they increasingly spend their time. "But we need to see even more ambition in this respect to ensure that public service media that audiences value survives long into the future.' ‌ At home, people spent 39 minutes a day on YouTube in 2024, with 16 minutes of this on the household's TV set. Younger adults aged 16 to 34 are driving the trend, watching 18 minutes of YouTube a day on TV, while one in five children aged four to 15 head straight to the app as soon as they turn the set on. ‌ Even those aged over 55 have almost doubled the time they spend watching YouTube on their TVs compared with the previous year – up from six minutes a day in January 2023 to 11 minutes in December. YouTube's soaring popularity comes as the platform's content has evolved, with half of its top-trending videos now more closely resembling traditional TV, including long-form interviews and game shows, Ofcom said. On average, people spent four per cent less time watching broadcast TV on sets than in 2023, and just as in the same year, a decline was seen across all age groups except adults aged 75 and over. ‌ Ellis Cashmore, a British sociologist and cultural critic, admitted on X, previously Twitter, that he wasn't taken aback by the findings. He said: "Traditional TV is fading. Why? A short story of taste, tech, and trust. "Once, TV was a ritual: same shows, same time, same sofa. It built a national consensus — and broadcast it. But younger generations grew up with on-demand control. They don't want schedules. They want sovereignty." ‌ Pointing to the fact YouTube is free, he went on: "Sky, Netflix, BBC - they all cost. With subscription fatigue, rising rents, and student debt, free content wins. Ads? A small price for autonomy... "This isn't just YouTube winning - it's traditional TV losing relevance. Young people don't watch less, they just refuse to watch on your terms. The broadcast age is over. User power has taken the mic." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! In tonight's episode, The Sun can reveal that Megan shares the update with Conor to defend her name. The saga begins when Dejon tells the lads he thinks Megan is acting differently since her return. Blu, who returned alongside Megan last week, then says he'd heard she had caught up with Tommy on the outside. Our source said: 'Conor then pulls Megan for a chat about it, because he's worried about where this leaves him. 'So she lays her cards on the table and explains why - and how - she and Tommy spoke. 'She tells him she saw Tommy and Lucy out at Tape nightclub and that Lucy wanted to speak to her because of a leaked voicenote - in which Lucy called her a sl****r. 'It'll all play out in tonight's episode.' REAL DEAL It came shortly after Lucy revealed the truth behind the mystery voicenote. The Sun firstly revealed a 37-second recording, where she plotted to couple with popular Tommy Bradley. Love Island fans praise Megan as she calls out Harry for his actions in brutal speech It then went viral on social media. On Love Island spin-off Aftersun, Lucy said: "So obviously, like, we've probably all done it... sent voicenotes to friends and obviously I really did trust that friend and with the Tommy situation, I was obviously saying he's a very nice boy and that's why I wanted to get to know him. "I did say till the end, but it weren't the final, I meant the end... I would like to be with him in the future. "Someone with really good morals and also before going on the show, my dad did say to me he's the kind of boy he'd like me to bring home because he's very respectful." LOVE ISLAND 2025 - ALL the dumped stars so far LOVE Island 2025 is in its penultimate week. Here are all the dumped Islanders so far ... Sophie Lee Blu Chegini (has since returned) Malisha Jordan Will Means Shea Mannings Poppy Harrison Caprice Alexandra Megan Clarke (has since returned) Remell Mullins Ryan Bannister Alima Gagigo Martin Enitan Chris Middleton Yas Broom Rheo Parnel Giorgio Russo Emily Moran Andrada Pop Ben Holbrough Tommy Bradley Lucy Quinn Lauren Wood Harrison Solomon (quit) Emma Munro Boris Vidovic Billykiss Azeez The Liverpudlian then apologised for her "rude" comments about Megan after she branded her a "f**king little s*****r". Lucy continued: "Obviously to talk about Megan as well, I should never have commented on someone I'd never met before, so I do really apologise about that because I'm not that type of girl and it was very rude of me to do that as well." HUGE COMEBACK Meanwhile, there could be more potential drama for the pair after The Sun was first to report how the "entire" cast of the 2025 season will return ahead of the final. We told how this year's Love Island cohort will make a second entrance into the Mallorca villa. A source told us the scenes will air on ITV2 soon and said: "The entire cast will be returning to the villa this week - just like the 'jury' in All Stars earlier this year. "They'll come face to face with the stars who dumped them, and in some cases, have slagged them off live on TV!" Our source added of the current show twist: "It'll be explosive and must watch TV - during All Stars Liv Hawkins spilled a secret that changed the outcome of the entire show so the cast will be VERY nervous when they realise what is about to happen!" 7 Megan clashed with Lucy when she had been evicted earlier in the series Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 7 Megan is back in the villa and reignited her connection with Conor Phillips Credit: Shutterstock Editorial
